Welcome The 2017-2018 sports programme saw over playing within the recommended guidance. 20,000 children participate in 130 events across 22 different sports. Order of Play SCORING 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 points for a loss. POOL MATCHES This qualifier will consist of 4 pools of 4 teams. Matches will be 7 minutes each way. The 1st and 2nd placed team in each pool will progress to the Cup competition. The 3rd and 4th placed team in each pool will progress to the Plate competition. Order of Play KNOCKOUT MATCHES Matches will be 7 minutes each way. In the event of a tie at the end of cup knockout matches, there will be a 5 minute period of open goal. If the score is still level after this period, 4 and then 5 will be followed as above. In the event of a tie at the end of plate matches, 4 and then 5 will be followed as above. Hockey at Bishop’s Stortford College Hockey is a core sport for for boys in the Spring and girls in the Autumn term. Both boys and girls benefit from additional coaching and skills development provided throughout the academic year. Hockey training takes place up to four afternoons a week on our two full size, flood-lit astro pitches. Our hockey coaches have a wealth of experience and expertise up to National level and have achieved success in leading teams to National finals both indoors and outside, on a regular basis. Fixtures are played against other strong hockey playing schools. Pupils are supported and encouraged where possible, to participate in club hockey for teams including Southgate, Old Loughtonians, Cambridge City and Bishop’s Stortford. Pupils have been selected to participate in the England Hockey Single System Player Pathway, playing representative hockey at every level up to and including NAGS and HiPAC. 10
Sport Scholarships at the College Sport scholarships are awarded on entry to the Fourth Form (Year 9) and Lower Sixth Form (Year 12) to attract or retain outstanding sportsmen and sportswomen who will contribute to raising the standard and profile of College sport through an exceptional level of sporting performance and by providing excellent role models. Criteria Sports scholarships will be awarded to those who will bring distinction to the College through sport in terms of their performance, attitude and conduct. They will be expected to: Excel in at least one of the school’s core sports (Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Cricket or Swimming.) Possess significant future potential. Demonstrate impressive personal qualities and sporting leadership. Achieve the required academic standard for the College and optimise their academic potential. Application Candidates are invited to complete the application form and return it to our Senior School Admissions Officer, together with references from your Head of Sport and at least one specialist coach. The deadline for applications is 31st October (16+) and 30th November (13+). Assessment Applicants will be invited to attend an assessment day in November (16+) and January (13+) which will involve: Physical ability and fitness tests. Sport specific practical assessments. An interview with the Director of Sport and Head of Sport. Awards Scholarship offers will be made during the first/second week of December (16+) and by the second week of February (13+).
