VOLUNTEER CHECKLIST

  We are excited to have you on board as part of the 2018 Bridge to Brisbane Volunteer team.

      •    Familiarise yourself with the event - Please read through the Handbook and your role brief carefully.
      •    Collect your Volunteer Shirt - If you are volunteering as part of a group please speak to your Team
           Leader.

  ABOUT BRIDGE TO BRISBANE :
  Please familiarize yourself with your specific duties, the Event Timetable and general event information detailed
  in the race guide.

  MEDIA:
  Any information requests from the media at the event should be directed to News Queensland. Please do not
  make any comments.

    PUBLIC TRANSPORT & PARKING

  Your volunteer t-shirt is your ticket to FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT on all Brisbane Transport Buses and Queensland
  Rail Services to and from the event until 3pm on Sunday 26th August. Just make sure you are wearing your 2018
  volunteer t-shirt while you are travelling, and you do not have to pay.

  There will be NO FREE PARKING provided at the event. If you are volunteering at the Finish Village in Southbank
  paid parking is available at the Brisbane Convention Centre and Southbank Parklands. Access to the Southbank
  Parklands underground parking facility is only via the Glenelg St end of Little Stanley Street. View map for details.

  If you are volunteering at the 10/5km Start Lines please visit the GETTING THERE page on the Bridge to Brisbane
  website for information on the best way to access these sites. Volunteers located on course may decide to drive
  and park in side streets. If you choose this option please ensure you abide by any local parking requirements to
  avoid parking tickets. Please also plan your route before event day as there will be many road closured in place.

WHAT TO WEAR

  Please wear your volunteer t-shirt provided at all times. Please wear fully enclosed, comfortable footwear. In
  case of inclement weather, please dress accordingly with waterproof attire and you may wish to bring along a
  small umbrella. The weather can also be cold in the mornings so a warm long-sleeved shirt to wear under the
  volunteer shirt is recommended. Please note you will be in the sun so please come prepared with hat, sunscreen

and sunglasses.

     Compliant with Queensland Work Health and Safety Act 2011, as a volunteer you have a duty to:

          •       Take care of your own safety
          •       Not to cause harm to people or property through acts or omissions
          •       Follow safe work practices and instructions
          •       Report hazards, injuries and near misses
          •       Take reasonable care to ensure you don’t affect the health and safety of others
          •       Carry out your tasks in a safe way
          •       Follow the reasonable work health and safety instructions given to you by the organisation you
                  volunteer for, and
          •       Co-operate with the reasonable policies and procedures of the organisation you volunteer for that
                  relate to work health and safety.
          •       Carrying out activities within the role you have been assigned
          •       Not carrying out activities that you do not have the skills to undertake
          •       To not do anything that would seem to be unsafe.

     WORKPLACE BULLYING
     The work health and safety responsibility of the organisation you volunteer for requires them to prevent
     workplace bullying, stress and harassment. Workers, including volunteers, also have a duty to ensure that their
     actions do not constitute a risk to their own health and safety or that of other people in the workplace. If you
     feel you are being bullied when volunteering and you don’t feel you can raise it with your supervisor or manager,
     you can contact your state or territory regulator for information and advice. Work health and safety regulator
     contact details are available on the Safe Work Australia website.

     WHS DISCRIMINATION
     The WHS Act also expressly prohibits the discrimination or unfair treatment of workers, including volunteers,
     because they have raised a work health and safety concern. A person found to be engaging in this type of
     discrimination may be liable to criminal penalties.

     MANUAL TASKS
           •    Use correct lifting movements
           •    Consider getting help with lifting heavier items
           •    Ensure work areas are free of trip and fall hazards

FAQs
   As a volunteer, participants may ask you questions. Try to answer them if you can, however if you do not know
   the answer to a question please direct participants to the nearest EMS Australia staff member or course official.

   Q: WHAT DO I DO IF I FEEL UNWELL ON COURSE?
   A: If you are unable to continue at any point along the course, you should seek assistance from a race marshal
   who will get help for you as soon as possible. Do not continue if you feel unwell.

   Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE LOST A CHILD /ADULT ?

   A: Any lost people will be directed to the information tent at the Finish Village. We recommend you make a
   meeting spot with your group before the event starts. HOT TIP for parents. Write your emergency contact details
   on the back of your child’s race number just to make sure if they do become displaced from you we can easily
   contact you.

   Q: WHAT IF I COME ACROSS ANOTHER PARTICIPANT THAT NEEDS MEDICAL ASSISTANCE?

   A: If you come across another participant that needs medical attention, please make note of the red course
   marker near your location. Markers are positioned every 200 metres and alert your nearest marshal or call our
   medical command center or call 000.

   A:

    6:00am                      Elite Sporting Wheelies
    6:10am                      10Km Blue & Red Elite Runners Start
    6:20am                      10Km Green Runners Start
    6:45am                      10Km Yellow Joggers Start
    7:10am                      10Km Grey Walkers Start
    9:20am                      5Km Event Start
    11:00am                     Award Presentations

   Q: WILL THERE BE TRANSPORT AVAILABLE TO/FROM THE EVENT ?

   A: Yes, all participants receive FREE public transport on event day. All you need to do is show your official 2017
   race number on Brisbane Transport Buses and Qld Rail Trains. Please note, due to capacity levels City Cat and
   Ferry services will not be included in the free public transport.

   Q: WHERE IS THE START LINE?
   A: 10km Starting Point – Top of the Roma St Parklands (Wickham Terrace into College Road)
   5km Starting Point – Captain Burke Park (End of Main Street, Kangaroo Point)

STAY HYDRATED

  Please ensure that you bring plenty of water and any snacks that you require. There will be access to water at
  the start site.

TOILETS ARE LOCATED

       •    10km & 5km Start lines
       •    Kurilpa Park
       •    Ivory Lane, Northern Side of the Story Bridge
       •    South Bank

                MEDICAL EMERGENCIES

       1. Report any incidents to your group leader immediately
       2. For Medical Assistance please contact the Medical Command Centre on 0421 003 720 or refer
          participants to the First Aid Marquee which will be located in the finish venue (refer to the venue map).
              a. Assess the situation i.e. ensure there is no danger, name, participant bib number and location
              b. Respond to the emergency i.e. minimise nearby hazards
              c. Record the incident i.e. record time, location, complete an incident report

  Every 200 meters along the course there are medical markers these indicate the distance in which an incident
  occurs i.e. medical marker 7.6 means 7.6km on the course. There will be first aid providers at the event, working
  in conjunction with the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS).

  Medical staff will be available at the starting point of both the 10km and 5km races, at the finish line and roving
  throughout the course. If you are ever in doubt call emergency services on “000”

  In the unlikely event of any suspicious behaviour please alert your team leader as soon as possible.
                a. Suspicious behaviour can be from the participants or the general public can be anything from
                     a bag or backpack left unattended or wearing a large jacket in warm weather or even a person
                     acting irritated.
                b. If you find an unattended bag/backpack
                            i. ask if anyone owns it
                           ii. if no one does, don’t touch it
                          iii. alert others to keep away
