Essential Language
and Academic Skills
The Pathway Online English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
course is modular in its approach. Students are required to gain
knowledge and experience of how to do their own research, write
academic assignments, give formal presentations, collaborate with peers
and engage in discussions through English.
Based on a flipped learning model, students are provided with up-to-date information
on topics of global interest. Through interaction with authentic, real-world material
supported by Pathway Online teaching material, students learn to make sense of new
ideas and to take ownership of their opinions through English.
Pathway Online | 2021 3With a minimum of six hours of English language study
per week, students are required to develop their skills in reading,
writing, speaking and listening, with a task-based approach to
learning. Listed outcomes are provided each week in a checklist
of achievements. Students move forward in accordance with what
they have achieved in this timeframe.
Additional authentic learning material from the Student Resource Bank is available
for students to augment their course input. Online forums are available to facilitate
peer-review, self-study and student interaction. Each student’s online engagement
will be monitored with a view to enhancing the overall learning experience. As learner
autonomy and student interaction are the keystones of the course, students will be
expected to work both independently and in group settings. The learning objectives of
the course encourage students to engage and become knowledgeable about different
cultures and about current events that are of global interest.
Experienced, professional native-English speaking tutors facilitate learning, assessment
and feedback. To ensure a comprehensive preparation for IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC
examinations, our teaching programme is aligned to the CEFR (Common European
