Steering clear of making ‘High Cost’ loans? You may be leaving money on the table. It’s been a while since we
visited Section 32 lending, with its many, many do’s and (mostly) don’ts. Private lending is highly competitive
these days ... but competition is scarcer for owner-occupied consumer loans. Join your fellow focus group
members as Michael and Michelle provide an in-depth presentation on what Sec. 32 does and does not allow,
guiding you through this regulatory maze. Plus, Jasen will present the new Fannie/Freddie 1003 form.

 10:00 am – 10:15 am Networking Break

10:15 am – 11:45 pm Forms and Documents for 2020 – Roundtable Focus Group
Moderated by Joffrey Long, President, Southwest Mortgage
Could your forms/documents be better? Um ... yes. That’s why this session is always full! Applications, borrower
and investor disclosures, underwriting checklists, loan documents, closing forms, and loan servicing documents
                       – all are critical to your business. Get feedback and input from attorneys, experts, and other practitioners as
we work together to exchange ideas, share our knowledge and build better documents.

1:00 pm – 2:30 pm Small Balance Mixed-Use Lending
Glenn Goldan, Founder & CEO, ReProp Financial | Dane Valadao, COO, ReProp Financial | Peter Steigleder, COO, Fidelity Mortgage Lenders
Whether in an older business district or “New Urban” development, lending on collateral with multiple uses can
increase your loan production. Neither ‘fish, nor fowl,’ mixed-use lending can be complicated. This program
will help you choose the right bets to place and give you tips on underwriting, documenting and servicing
these loans. An underwriting checklist will be provided. Let Glenn, Peter and Dane provide you with the tools
you need to lend in this area.

2:30 pm – 2:50 pm 20 Minute Networking Break

2:50 pm – 3:50 pm Can You Keep Your Independent Contractors? AB 5 and the Battle Against Your Business Model
Todd R. Wulffson, Managing Partner, Carothers Disante & Freudenbergr, LLP | Robert Finlay, CMA General Counsel
Did the state just upend your business model? In the interest of fighting the abuses it sees in the gig economy,
California recently adopted AB 5 which becomes effective on Jan. 1, 2020. This law imposes strict requirements
on businesses paying contractors on a 1099 basis, implementing a 3-part test on the company/contractor
relationship. Labor law expert, Todd Wulffson, and CMA general counsel, Robert Finlay, will take you through the
must’s and must not’s of this law, shedding light on how it affects your business and your business relationships.

                      Capital Corp.
Do you have systems in place to spot and stop loan fraud? Think you’re smart enough to catch it? Sometimes
the criminals can outfox even the brightest, most diligent companies. This program will focus on real-life (ripped
from the headlines!) frauds perpetrated against CMA members and others. We’ll tell you what happened,
how it was discovered, and what happened then. More importantly, we’ll share some ideas and practices that
might have stopped the fraud ... or at least have detected it sooner. The names will be changed to protect the
victims. But the stories will be REAL! And the advice will be worth it.

10:00 am – 10:30 am 30 Minute Networking Break

10:30 am – 12:00 pm Keynote: The Decade Ahead
                                                    Dr. Christopher Thornberg, Beacon Economics
Returning by popular demand, Dr. Christopher Thornberg of Beacon Economics is a
rare combination of wit and economic expertise. Having forecast the subprime crash
that began in 2007, Dr. Thornberg is a recognized national expert on the economy.
Always a lively and engaging speaker, Dr. Thornberg is an expert in economic revenue
forecasting, regional economics, economic policy, labor markets and real estate
markets. Expect a fast-moving, entertaining discussion of the state of today’s markets
and where we may be heading.

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm Luncheon and General Business Meeting

1:30 pm – 3:00 pm Opportunities in ADU Lending
Melissa C. Martorella, Esq., of Counsel, Geraci Law | Aaron Norris, Vice President, The Norris Group | Sandy MacDougall, President
                      and Founder, Mortgage Vintage
The State of California passed five accessory dwelling unit (ADU) bills last fall that force cities to allow secondary
homes on existing lots throughout California. Strict timelines, fee structures, size requirements, and ramifications
apply if cities don’t comply. Is this an opportunity or a risk to lenders? How should the private lender determine
whether the loan meets business purpose compliance requirements? Join these experts as they discuss the
who, what, how, and why of the California ADU boom.

3:00 pm – 3:20 pm 20 Minute Network Break

3:20 pm – 4:20 pm Hazard Insurance – California Wildfires Update
Mel Babtkis, Partner, Ross Diversified Insurance Services | Sam Brust, Dir. of Business Development, Ross Diversified Insurance
Services | Moderated by Michelle Rodriguez, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, Woodland Hills Mortgage Corp.
JUST ADDED! With the recent wildfires in California, insurance carriers have been dropping coverage to certain
areas and changing their policies and their practices in ways that can harm your collateral. Coverage that you
thought you had may not be there – even if you have an Evidence of Insurance. This program will go over
what these new risks are, how to catch them ... and what you can do about it.
