If the choke is left in the ‘START’ position continuously it will prevent
the engine from starting because there is too much fuel for the air
being provided (the choke control reduces the air provided being burnt
                with the fuel).
On warm days, a 2-stroke engine does not need to be choked very
much. The cooler it is, the longer you will need to leave the choke on.
Pull the recoil starter cable 3 to 4 times to start the engine, this should
provide a sufficient fuel/air mixture to the cylinder head. When the
engine starts, put the choke lever back to the ‘RUN’ position after a
minute, and let the engine warm up. If it starts to splutter, put the
choke back to the ‘START’ position for a minute or two. If it doesn’t
start, put the choke lever back to the ‘RUN’ position (yes, even if the
engine does not start). Continue to pull the recoil starter cable 3 to 4
more times. Then apply the choke and try to start. If it still does not
start remove the spark plug clean/dry, replace and start again.

Operation - chainsaw CHECKING OIL SUPPLY
After starting the engine, run the chain at medium speed and see if
chain oil is scattered off as shown opposite.
                       (1) Chain oil

                              NOTE
The oil reservoir has a capacity sufficient to provide about 40 minutes of
cutting time (when set to deliver the minimum flow rate, or about as
long as you'll get from a tank of fuel). Be sure to refill the oil tank every
                       time when refueling the saw.

                        ! WARNING

                       ADJUSTING OIL FLOW RATE
Never fill the oil reservoir nor adjust the oil with the engine running.

                         ! IMPORTANT
An increase in bar oil flow rate will speed oil consumption,
requiring more frequent checks on the oil reservoir. To ensure sufficient
lubrication, It may be necessary to check the oil level more frequently
than at fuel tank refills. The guide bar and chain are lubricated
automatically by a pump that operates whenever the chain rotates. The
pump is set at the factory to deliver a minimum flow rate, but it can be
adjusted in the field. A temporary increase in oil flow is often desirable
when cutting things like hardwood or wood with a lot of pitch.

                       Adjust the pump as follows:
                       1. Stop the engine and make sure the stop switch is in the STOP
                          position.
                       2. Place the unit on its side with the oil reservoir up (see image opposite).
                       (1) Oil tank
                       (2) Chain cover

                       3. With a screwdriver, push in on the oil flow rate adjusting screw and
turn in the desired direction (there are three incremental settings):
                       (a) Clockwise-decrease lubrication.
                       (b) Counter clockwise-increase lubrication.
                       (c) Middle
                       IMPORTANT
The oil flow adjusting screw must be pressed in slightly in order to turn.
Failure to do so could damage the pump and screw.

                                                                                                  21

TO PRUNE BRANCHES FROM A TREE

Do not cut any branch larger than 30cm thick.
This item is not designed to fell large trees, it is for pruning. Cut
lower branches first and work up the trunk. Prune heavy branches
in several sections to reduce the weight of the branch and strain
on the saw. To avoid tearing the bark, perform a cut on the
underside of the branch and then cut the top.
The optimum angle for cutting is 60º but this can be adjusted to
                       suit your task requirement.
Do not over reach and hold the body of the machine above
shoulder height as this is not a stable position (the pole and cutter
will of course be above shoulder height). When using the pruner,
be aware of any overhead wires, power lines, etc. that may over
                       hang your operating area.

                       HEDGE TRIMMER OPERATION

Maximum branch width for cutting with the hedge trimmer is 1cm.
Any branches thicker than this will damage the cutting blades and
may cause personal injury. When cutting a hedge, please inspect
for thicker branches and prune out by hand or another method
first. Also inspect for any hidden obstacles such as fence posts or
power lines that the hedge has covered. Nesting birds should not
be disturbed. Check the reverse side of the hedge for any
                       obstruction or people.

To adjust the angle of the cutting blade:
                       Stop the engine.
Push down clamp lever to loosen it.
Adjust the angle of the blades to the desired angle and then
release the lever back into place (see image opposite).

                              NOTE
When the power has been turned off that the cutting
blades will continue to run for a few seconds.

Sap and resin can clog blades and it is recommended that this be
cleaned after use with a proprietary resin solvent cleaner and
always after finishing a task and before storage.

KICKBACK SAFETY PRECAUTIONS - CHAINSAW

 ! WARNING

Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in
and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Tip contact in some cases may cause a lightning fast reverse
reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the operator. Pinching the saw chain along the top of
the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator. Either of these reactions may
cause you to Iose control of the chainsaw, which could result in serious personal injury.

As a chainsaw user you should take several steps to keep cutting jobs free from accident or injury.
(1) With a basic understanding of kickback you can reduce or eliminate the element of surprise. Sudden
    surprise contributes to accidents.
(2) Use a firm grip with thumbs and fingers encircling the handle. A firm grip will help you reduce kickback and
    maintain control of the saw.
(3) Make certain that the area in which you are cutting is free from obstructions. Do not let the nose of the
guide bar make contact with a log, branch, or any other obstruction which could be hit while you are
    operating the saw.
(4) Cut at high engine speeds.
(5) Do not overreach .
(6) Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain.
(7) Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer or the equivalent.

AVOIDING PULL-IN
Pull-in can occur when the bottom of the chain is used for cutting and is stopped suddenly by hitting a foreign
object or getting pinched. This pulls the chainsaw forwards and may cause the user to lose control. Pull-in can
also occur when the chain is not running at full speed when contact is made with the wood.
• Ensure the chain is rotating at full speed and is correctly positioned when making a cut.
AVOIDING PUSH-BACK
Push-back can occur when the top of the chain is used for cutting and is stopped suddenly by hitting a foreign
object or getting pinched. This pulls the chainsaw towards the user and may cause the user to lose control.
• Take care not to twist the chainsaw as it is removed when bucking from underneath the log.
• Do NOT cut more than one log at any one time.
• Be aware of situations that may cause the chain to pinch or pull.

                                                                                                           23

            BUCKING USING A SAW HORSE
            1. Hold the chainsaw firmly and keep the saw to the right of your body while
               cutting.
            2. Keep the left arm as straight as possible.
            3. Keep weight on both feet.
The chainsaw should only be used when the buck has
sturdy, reliable support. The machine should be held to
the right of the body, at a safe distance.
The chain needs to be moving at full speed before coming into contact with the
wood. When this has been achieved, the machine should be fixed to the wood
using dogs. During cutting this support should be used as a lever.
            • Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands and keep the chainsaw to the right
              of your body while cutting.
            • Keep the left arm as straight as possible.
            • Keep weight on both feet.
            SKATING /BOUNCING
When the chainsaw fails to dig in during a cut, the guide bar can begin hopping
or dangerously skidding along the surface of the log or branch, possibly resulting
in the loss of control of the chainsaw. To prevent or reduce skating or bouncing,
make sure the saw chain establishes a groove for cutting.

                                                                                           25

                                      AIR FILTER
The air filter, if clogged, will reduce the engine performance.
Air filter Check and clean the filter element in warm, soapy water as
required. Dry completely before installing. If the element is
broken or shrunk, replace with a new one.

                                      SPARK PLUG
Starting failure and mis-firing are often caused by a fouled spark
plug. Clean the spark plug and check that the plug gap is in the
correct range. For a replacement plug, use the correct type
specified by manufacturer (see image opposite).

                                        ! IMPORTANT
Note that using any spark plug other than those
designated may result in the engine failing to operate properly
or in the engine becoming overheated and damaged. To install
the spark plug, first turn the plug until it is finger tight, then
tighten it a quarter turn more with a socket wrench (see image

                    INTAKE AIR COOLING VENT

                      ! WARNING
Never touch the cylinder, muffler, or spark plugs with your bare hands
immediately after stopping the engine. The engine can become very hot
when in operation, and doing so could result in severe burns. When
checking the machine to make sure that it is cool to touch before using
it, remove any wood chips or leaves which have attached themselves to
the unit. Failing to do so could cause the unit to become overheated, and
this in turn could cause the engine to catch on fire. Always make sure
that the unit is clean and free of wood chips, leaves, and other waste
                    before use.

Check the intake air cooling vent and the area around the cylinder
cooling fins after every 25 hours of use for blockage, and remove any
                    waste which has attached itself.

PLEASE NOTE: It is necessary to remove the engine cover in order to be
              (1) able to view the upper part of the cylinder.

                    ! IMPORTANT
If waste gets stuck and causes blockage around the intake air
cooling vent or between the cylinder fins, it may cause the engine to
overheat, and in turn may cause a mechanical failure.

                    PROCEDURES TO BE PERFORMED
AFTER EVERY 100 HOURS OF USE
                    1. Remove the muffler, insert a screwdriver into the vent, and wipe away
any carbon build up. Wipe away any carbon build up on the muffler
exhaust vent and cylinder exhaust port at the same time
                    2. Tighten all screws, bolts, and fittings.
                    3. Check to see if any oil or grease has worked its way in between the
clutch lining and drum, and if it has wipe it away using oil-free, lead-free
                    petrol.

              HEDGE TRIMMER BLADES
When refilling the tank or resting, it is often a good idea
to use the time to oil the cutting blades.
If a gap exists between the upper and lower blades,
follow the procedure below to adjust them so that they
              fit more closely together.
              1. Loosen lock nut (A) as shown in the diagram.
              2. Tighten screw (B) fully, and then turn one-third to
              one-half of a rotation backward.
              3. While holding onto the screw to keep it in position,
              tighten the lock nut.
              4. Check to make sure that the flat washer (C) is loose
enough so that it may be turned by pressing on it with a
              finger.
              (1) Upper blade
              (2) Lower blade

                       NOTE
Screwing in the screw too tightly may make it
impossible for the blades to move. Conversely, not
screwing in the screw tightly enough may make the
blades of the trimmer feel dull and cause leaves and
branches to become caught in the blades of the
              trimmer.

              GEAR CASE
The reduction gears are lubricated by multipurpose,
