1. Welcome
Thank you for selecting Laddsworth as the school for your child. We welcome
you to the Laddsworth family and hope that you will enjoy many years of
learning with us.
2. Parent Interviews
Your child is our concern. Teachers are always willing to meet with parents to
discuss any problems or queries pertaining to your child. An appointment to
meet the class teacher must be made through the class teachers, (email
addresses are uploaded on D6+ Connect), or by means of the homework
book.
3. Channels of Communication
It is very important to follow the correct channels of communication.
Complaints, suggestions and compliments should be reported as follows:
Classroom matters:
Class Teacher/Subject Teacher.
If you are not satisfied with the response, then:
Head of Grade → Head of Department → Deputy Headmaster →
Headmaster.
Sport related issues:
Coach
If you are not satisfied with the response, then:
Age Group Co-ordinator → Head of Sports Code → Director of Sport →
Deputy Headmaster → Headmaster.
Disciplinary incidents at Laddsworth are taken very seriously and the
Disciplinary Code for Learners is strictly followed to ensure a safe and secure
environment for quality education to take place.
4. Streaming
It is school policy to have equally mixed ability grouping within classes. In
other words, there is no streaming except for some subjects in the Senior
Primary. Teachers are committed to ensuring that each pupil realises his or
her potential.
5. Laddsworth Website/D6+ Connect/Email

School Hours
The school day begins at 07h30 and ends at 12h40 for Grade 1 to 2 and
14h05 for Grade 3 to 7.
Staff are at school by 07h20.
School closes at 12h40 on Fridays for Grades 1 to 7.
Office Hours
07h10 to 15h30 Monday to Thursday
07h10 to 12h40 Friday
7. Microsoft 365
The School has selected Microsoft Teams as its platform for delivering online
learning and, in particular, the video conferencing capabilities which form part
of Microsoft Teams. In order for learners to access Microsoft Teams and the
School’s online learning programmes.Learners will be provided with a Microsoft Office 365 account, together with a
username and password (“Microsoft Office account”). Microsoft Office 365 is
cloud-based and, as a result, learners will be able to access Microsoft Teams
from school and from home. The personalized Microsoft account enables
pupils to access a suite of cloud-based Microsoft applications including a
special closed Laddsworth email account. This means that each pupil will
effectively have their very own cloud-based personal computer that can be
accessed from any Smartphone, Tablet, PC or any devise that is connected
to the Internet.
This will enable pupils to communicate with teachers and fellow learners
within a closed, protected and monitored Laddsworth community via Email,
MS Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint and work on documents in Word, Excel
and PowerPoint.
The use of the Microsoft Office account will be subject to the terms and
conditions outlined in the School’s Information Systems and Social Media
Policy, and the Code of Conduct, copies of which are available at
https://laddsworth.co.za/policies-submenu.
8. School Safety and Security
It is your responsibility, as parents, to safeguard your children and to teach
them the skills to be safe. Every parent should teach their children about
safety and security measures. Most importantly, making home a place of trust
and support that fulfils your child's needs is paramount. Family is the single
most important influence in a child's life. From their first moments of life,
children depend on their parents and family to protect them and provide for
their needs. They are a child's first teachers, who as role models, show how
to react, respond and how to experience the world around them.
For school safety, parents are reminded that if they are entering the school
grounds for any reason during school hours, they must enter through the
main gate. You MUST sign in the Visitors Register and obtain a Visitor’s
Badge from Mr Bethwell Buthelezi, our Security Guard, at the Main Gate.
Parents who bring items to school during school hours may NOT go directly
to classrooms, but MUST report to Reception at the Administration office.
Please encourage your children to be organised and responsible for their
belongings and thus avoiding the need for parents to bring items to school.
I remind pupils and parents that the Staff Quarters and Workshop Area is
private. I appeal to parents and children NOT to go in to our Staff Quarters or
Workshop area in the afternoons to ask for classroom keys to open
classrooms. Even if your child has left an item behind, these areas are ‘out
of bounds’. I have instructed our Cleaning Staff that they may not hand outclassroom keys. In a case of an emergency, kindly contact the office to make
arrangements to get access to a classroom after school hours.
To ensure the safety of your child after school, he/she has three options at
the end of the school day
1. Go to Sports practice
2. Go to Aftercare
3. Go home.
Pupils may not wait outside the school premises under any
circumstance. They must always remain within the school gates/fence and
keep a lookout for the vehicle collecting them from within the safety of the
school property.
Our Security Guard, Mr Buthelezi, is NOT employed to look after children
who have been left unattended at the end of a school day.
If a pupil has not been collected they must either report to Aftercare, or come
to the Administration Office so that their parents can be contacted. Under no
circumstances may pupils wait at the gate or along the fence, inside the school
property longer than 30 minutes after the end of the school day.
9. Absenteeism
It is very important that your child does not miss school unnecessarily. We
appeal to parents not to book appointments for your child during the school
day, unless it is unavoidable.
If your child is absent from school, please contact the school before 07h30,
by email (switchboard@laddsworth.co.za) and the class teacher.
If your child is absent for a long period of time, the relevant Class Teacher
will make a decision whether or not to send work home. If your child is ill
enough to be at home, he/she should not be working, but resting.
Any absence from School, during official hours, must be explained by a
written note from the parent/guardian. Absence on medical grounds of
three (3) days or more must be explained by a doctor's certificate.
These notes must be presented immediately on the learner s return to
school. Parents are asked to notify the office via email
(switchboard@laddsworth.co.za), as well as the class teacher if their child is
away from school to make arrangements regarding the collection of
homework.
In terms of updated regulations and the electronic submission of information to
the Education of Department, if a learner exceeds twenty days (20) days
absent without a valid reason, that learner is automatically flagged by the
Department of Education (DoE).
Please note should your child be sent home, due to illness, before 10h15,
he/she will be marked absent for the day.10. Immunization
Please make sure that all immunizations are up to date. Hepatitis B and
Tetanus booster, given every 3 years, is also suggested, by medical
professionals.
11. Sport
Sport is offered from Grade 1 to 7. The focus of sport in Grade 1 and 2 is on
participation and enjoyment with a view to learning the basics of the game.
From Grade 3, team selections are done on the basis of ability and all
children are required to participate in at least one sport per term. Fixtures are
arranged for all teams regardless of ability. Children are required to attend
practices and fixtures for the code of sport they have chosen. Fixtures are
compulsory and commitment to team and school is very important.
After sport, pupils may go home dressed in sports kit, however, they must
wear school shoes with socks, takkies or Laddsworth strops. Parents are
requested to collect children on time after sport. With regards to Tennis,
pupils not collected from the Hilton Tennis Club courts before the bus leaves
will be brought back to school as a safety precaution.
An excuse note from the parent must be handed to the teacher in charge, or
coach if a child is unable to attend sport practice.
Children absent from school on a Friday may not be considered for team
selection for Saturday matches.
Grade One to Grade Three will be given notices when they are chosen to
participate in a sports match. The older children will be told by the teacher
concerned and team lists will be posted up on the sports’ notice board,
outside the Sports’ Office. All updated fixtures, venues and times are
published in the Headmaster’s Newsletter and D6+ Connect each week.
Please note that sports practice at Laddsworth is never cancelled. However,
on rainy days, children will report to the classroom of the respective teacher
in charge for registration. They will be looked after until the sports normal
finishing time. Please do not phone the school to find out if sport has been
cancelled.
When a sports match is cancelled, due to bad weather, Parents are asked to
phone the cell number noted on the match slip, newsletter or D6+ Connect.
A voice message will relay the decision taken to call off the match – Senior
Primary (Grade 3 to 7): 072 233 8065 / Junior Primary (Grade 1 to 2):
079 559 3258 – and when possible an alert will be placed on the D6+
Connect.
12. Parent Support / Participation / Expectations in Sport
We encourage and welcome parent interest and support in their children’s
sport. Please remember that the coach and the players are doing their best
and personal remarks made about coaches, referees, umpires or players will
not be tolerated.Applaud good play, set a good example to the players and don’t publicly
criticise or question the referee, umpire, coach or player from either team.
Good sportsmanship and being humble in victory and defeat, is something

Road had been declared a ONE-WAY Road from Brindy Road towards
Groenekloof Road each school day from 07h00 to 17h00. Please DO NOT
drive against the traffic flow or disobey the NO ENTRY signs. Parents are

respect in our pupils towards all people at all times.
18. School Telephone/Cell Phones/Smart Watches
This is not for the convenience of the pupils. Pupils will only be allowed to
use the telephone in an emergency or in order to notify parents that he/she
