After 10 years working in a kitchen and with a family of
four the long hours didn’t suit me any more. I always did
work on my own car, so thought automotive could be

I definitely recommend the course, I only did Year 10,
so I was afraid I wouldn’t have the competency, but it’s

I highly recommend studying the Diploma of Human
Resources Management at North Metro TAFE, because I
believe the lecturers provide an excellent and supportive
learning experience, that is often drawn from their own
industry experience. I feel by the end of this course,
I will have the skills and knowledge that the industry
does desire, and the simulated work environment and
practical assessments get you ready for the workplace.

I decided to study Certificate IV in Mental Health due to my
own personal journey. In 2016 my position working for an
international recruitment company was made redundant.
The best thing about studying mental health and now
working in the industry, is that I get to walk alongside
others in their recovery journey. I get to help other people
overcome life barriers, set and achieve personal goals and
help them see their own potential.

Never in my lifetime did I think I’d be building a train line.
Halfway through my first day of work experience, through the
Infrastructure Ready program, I was offered casual work and
then I was offered a traineeship with NEWest. I’m now doing a
Certificate III working outdoors on the tools.

33I was nervous to try something new as a mature aged person, but
thought the JSC would be my best bet to get back into study and
upskill to move into clerical work.
My interaction with the JSC gave me the motivation to attend a
jobs expo where I secured a volunteer opportunity with the Mental
Illness Fellowship of Western Australia. I cannot wait to flourish in
my new role, gain clerical experience, and hopefully find full time
work in the industry through the JSC.
