MD & CEO Message
Achievements inspired by the Spirit of the Union
As we begin the Year of Zayed, we recall the efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father,
to establish a country that has become a role model for happiness and positivity and a unique example of tolerance,
cooperation and acceptance. Our wise leadership, represented by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan,
President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of
the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and
Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, continue the approach of the late Sheikh Zayed, based on a
clear vision to make the UAE the best country in the world.

The UAE’s excellence journey started on 2 December 1971 when the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and the late
Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, laid down the foundations of the Union, starting the journey of excellence. This
journey has continued under our leadership who have skipped time, and achieved in a few years what other nations
failed to achieve in centuries.

Our Union reminds us of the need to continue our endeavour, and to double our efforts to protect our nation’s
achievements and further elevate the UAE’s advanced global position. We celebrated the 46th National Day in 2017
at a time when the UAE has made many achievements. At DEWA, we are honoured to contribute to the success of the
UAE, having received over 170 local and international awards over the past three years. These include the international
excellence award by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) to become the first non-European
organisation to receive this prestigious award and be placed in the platinum category along with other major global
companies. The UAE, represented by DEWA, achieved first place globally for getting electricity, according to the World
Bank’s Doing Business Report 2018. DEWA also achieved the lowest Customer Minutes Lost per year worldwide at 2.68
minutes in 2017.

We promise our wise leadership to continue to work day and night so that the UAE flag remains flying high. In the Year of
Zayed, we will strive to give back to our Nation, inspired by the Spirit of the Union as a driving force that motivates us to
make every sincere effort and be faithful to the spirits of the Founding Fathers. We will also work to achieve the vision
of our wise leadership, who spare no effort in developing the UAE and preserving the achievements of its progress over
the years, which has been fuelled by loyalty and generosity, and has created prosperity under the flag of the Union.
