ANNUAL DINNER & AUCTION - Salmon & Trout Conservation
PART 1: The Silent Auction

1S. A day and a night salmon and sea trout fishing for one
rod on the Dovey, guided by Andy Nicholson
Well known angling writer, broadcaster, TV presenter and Angling
News Editor, Andy Nicholson, will guide one rod for a day’s salmon
fishing followed by a night’s sea trout fishing on an exclusive and highly
productive 15-mile beat. This is a beat Andy knows very well, as it is
where he filmed his classic video, The Enigmatic Sea Trout. The River
Dovey needs no introduction to sea trout anglers - an internationally
famous river with a rich history of producing seriously big sea trout.
The opportunity to fish on the New Dovey Association water with an
experienced game angler is one not to be missed. Accommodation is not
included but Andy will advise the successful bidder on where to stay
locally if required. To be taken during the 2019 season on a mutually
      convenient date.
      Guide price: £350.00
      Donated by: Andy Nicholson Esq.

2S. A MacAngus for two - stalk a roebuck, fish for salmon
and flight duck, all in one day
This is a unique opportunity for two sportspeople each to achieve the
much sought after MacAngus, on Stracathro Estate, on the East Coast
of Scotland. Each will stalk a roebuck, fish for salmon and flight duck
all in one day. Two Estate rifles and fishing rods can be provided if
required, with full tuition and ghillying. A picnic lunch will be provided
in the fishing hut on the North Esk. This auction lot would suit either
the experienced or the beginner. Accommodation is not included but
can be arranged. To be taken in September / October 2019, by mutual
      agreement.
      Guide Price: £1000.00
Donated by: Hughie Campbell Adamson Esq.
ANNUAL DINNER & AUCTION - Salmon & Trout Conservation
3S. Four days for two rods (or two days for four rods)
      Salmon fishing on the Dee
Four days for two rods on different beats of the Dee, for two days on
each beat. Alternatively, four rods may fish for two days, as each beat
has the capacity for two rods. The beats are at Knappach, a few miles
downstream of Banchory, and on Drumnagesk. Both beats have superb
fly water, are relatively private, lightly fished and ideal for floating line
fishing. Fishing by arrangement with the donor in the 2019 season.
      Guide Price: £600.00
Donated by: Victor Beamish Esq. and John Pelly Esq.

4S. An original oil painting by David Miller
      For those fascinated by fish
      and watery places, David needs
      little introduction - his beautiful
works in print form have graced
      countless anglers’ walls. For many
years his work has featured on
      both the Environment Agency’s
      coarse and migratory fish licences.
This year, we are lucky enough
to have an original work by
      David. David’s subject matter in
this instance is a sea trout - an
      exclusive opportunity to own
a unique piece of artwork by a
      superb fish artist.
      Guide price: £600.00
      Donated by: David Miller Esq.

5S. Two days guided spring
      salmon fishing for four
      rods on the River Tummel
      Two days guided prime spring
salmon fishing for four rods on
the lower River Tummel (The Tay’s
main spring tributary), to be taken
between the 1st of March and 31st
      of May 2019.
Guided by Corin Smith (www.wildrisecompany.com); all tackle and
gear can be provided. The lot includes three nights self-catering
      accommodation.
      Guide Price: £2000.00
Donated by: The Wild Rise Company

6S. One day for one gun
      flighting pink footed
      geese on Cockerham
      Marsh, Morecambe Bay
      Flighting Pink Footed Geese on
      Cockerham Marsh on Morecambe
Bay, south of Lancaster, guided by
the donor. The purchaser needs to
be sound in wind, limb and have appropriate insurance! A capacity for
concealment and a fondness for mud are also desirable. The plan will be
to go to the marsh pre-dawn, and flight the geese as they leave the roost
on the high sands and go inland to feed at dawn. Whilst there are plenty
of geese - 5,000-30,000 for much of last season - nothing is guaranteed,
apart from mud and hardcore bird watching. This will be an experience
which you will not forget. If the purchaser is game, we can repeat the
process when the geese return at night.
The donor can provide an 8 bore, 10 bore or a semi-auto 12 bore
and cartridges if required. Expected bag on average is half a goose!
Doubtless, it will be hard work, but wildfowling is arguably the wildest,
most fascinating and exhilarating sport of all! Are you ready for a serious
dose of ”goose fever”? Date by arrangement in the 2019/2020 fowling
season between 1st October and 25th January, excluding Saturdays
      Guide price: £600.00
      Donated by: Ian Coghill Esq.
7S. Fishing for two rods
      on the Bishopstoke
      stretch of the Itchen
One day for two rods on
      four beats (4 miles) of
      a private fishery on the
      River Itchen. This is an
      opportunity to fish one
      of the world’s premier
      chalk streams in idyllic
      surroundings and, as this
is a members-only water, this is truly a money can’t buy lot. Not only will
the rods be hosted by the Club’s President, Robert Miles, but will also be
treated to a picnic lunch to support this unique opportunity to fly fish for
trout and grayling. To be taken after Ist July 2019.
      Guide price: £700.00
Donated by: The Bishopstoke Fishing Club

8S. One day for two, or
      two days for one,
      on the Rouloir River,
      Normandy
One day for two rods or two
days for one rod on the Fario
      Club’s beat of the Rouloir
      River in Normandy. Half a
      mile double-bank fishing at la
      Croisille Mill, near Conches en
Ouche and Evreux. Picnic lunch & guide included. Wild Brown trout only,
dry-fly or upstream nymph fishing preferred. The karst geology, forested
catchment, low levels of pesticide and fertilizer pollution result in very
good fly life with fish rising all day. B&B available on site at additional
cost. For those wishing to make a longer trip, there is other fishing
nearby - The river Iton, for example (to be taken at the purchaser’s own
cost). Fishing to be taken between 1st May and 10 September 2019.
      Guide Price: £250.00
      Donated by: International Fario Club
9S. A day’s salmon fishing for two rods on the world-
      famous Royalty Fishery, Hampshire Avon
An Avon salmon is one of the most sought-after quarries in the game
fishing world. With many multi-sea-winter chrome salmon running the
Royalty every year, there is the potential for a fish well in excess of
20lbs. This is a very rare opportunity to fish the river’s most prolific beat.
A day for two rods on a Saturday, to be agreed with the donor during the
2019 season. This beat is syndicated and therefore impossible to fish for
the general public during this exclusive period. With fly only until May
15th and spinning up to 16th June, the best months for the revered “Avon
      springer” being April to May.
      Guide price: £600.00
      Donated by: Jason Lewis Esq.

10S. A two night fishing break for two at the
     Arundell Arms Hotel

The winning bidder will have 20 miles of private fishing spread over 7
rivers at what is arguably the most famous fishing hotel in England. The
lot includes two nights for two people in either a double or a twin room,
with breakfast plus fishing for two rods for two days on any of the hotel’s
20 private beats. There are two resident fishing instructors on hand to
guide and help you find the best spots. You have three dining options
during your stay. You may eat in the award-winning restaurant, with its
chandeliers and high ceilings; the hotel bar for more relaxed bistro style
dining; or try the adjacent village pub which, in a former life, was the
village police station. All three serve great tasting, freshly cooked food,
sourced from local suppliers. This lot may be taken at any time in 2019
(subject to availability) and includes room, breakfast, and fishing. Other
meals, drinks and fishing instruction/ghillies are available at an extra
     charge.
The Arundell Arms Hotel has been one of England’s premier fishing
hotels for more than half a century, with the previously mentioned 20
miles of its own water on the Tamar and six of its tributaries. These are
spate rivers that rise on the moors and flow through woods, farmland,
becoming larger, deepening, providing an almost infinite variety of water,
with long slow pools, gravelly runs and stickles, fast shallows and open
glides. Here you are alone all day, fishing a mile of river for wild brown
trout - shy fish that rise savagely to the fly. In the late spring the first
salmon arrive and by mid-summer, shoals of sea trout bring out the night
     fishers.
     Guide Price: £600.00
Donated by: The Arundell Arms Hotel

11S. Two days Sea Trout and

     between June and October 2019.
     Abercothi Estate, River Towy
     The Abercothi Estate has three
beats on the River Towy. This lot
is for two rods to fish for two
days on a different beat each day, fly only (except for spinning in high
water). There is an excellent run of salmon and sea trout on this river,
with a very good chance of a large sea-trout. A ghillie is available to
assist (tips only). Accommodation is not included but the fishing lodge
     may be available to rent.
     Guide Price: £600.00

just over 1/2 mile long and offers superb sport for wild brown trout and
grayling. Dry fly only on a day in September 2019 by mutual arrangement.

Well known fishing writer, author and artist, Charles Jardine, will guide
two rods for a day on a privately owned beat, Chilland, on the Upper
Itchen. Chilland is about a mile long and includes both banks, is private
and has a superb hut. The dry fly fishing is excellent with decent hatches
and plenty of wild brown trout and grayling. Wild brownies of over two
pounds are regularly caught. Sir Edward Grey, the Foreign Secretary at
the start of WWI, used to fish the beat and the ruins of his cottage are
nearby. Dates by arrangement in 2019.
     Guide price: £800.00
Donated by: Nick Measham Esq. and Andrew Impey Esq.
15S. Original drawing of
     your favourite pet
     by Eleanor Measham
     As a practising architect in
     New York, Eleanor spends
     her days immersed in
     design.
     Her love of drawing started
at an early age and now
     many of her patrons
     have generations of pets
     portrayed by her. There are
     walls of corgi, labrador and
     terrier portraits rubbing
     shoulders with chickens and
     more surprising pets.
Eleanor’s beautiful pencil drawings now include rivers, ancient
monuments and buildings. Whilst Eleanor was at Yale studying
her Masters Architecture, she won the architectural drawing prize.
Subsequently, drawings from her studies in Rome have been purchased
for the Hearst Foundation Collection in New York.
Eleanor will do a portrait of your treasured pet. They may be the Best in
Breed at Crufts, or the waggiest woof at the village fete, or simply the
most beloved pooch EVER. Whatever the pet, whatever the breed, have
them immortalised. These drawings make fantastic Christmas presents,
anniversary presents or a moment of deserved self-indulgence. Eleanor’s
pet portraits are much sought after and are a treasured reminder of a
     loved companion.

     for two on the
     Derbyshire Wye
     with Stuart Crofts
     A day for two rods
     on the exclusive
     Cressbrook and
     Litton waters of the
     Derbyshire Wye with
     well-respected angling
     entomologist and fly
     fishing guide, Stuart
     Crofts. This limestone
     stream is, in Stuart’s
     opinion, the finest
     insect-driven fly fishing
     water in the U.K. Part
     of the day will be
     spent looking at the
     amazing richness of the
     invertebrates in this
     river and the remainder
     will be spent trying to
     catch its wily trout. To
     be taken on Monday
20th May 2019. Please do not bid if you cannot make this date.

21S. Sterling silver leaping salmon
     pendent with sapphire eyes
A sterling silver chain suspends a
     handcrafted solid silver pendent
     depicting a leaping salmon with
     dazzling sapphire eyes. The
     craftspeople at Patrick Mavros have
     excelled themselves in the manufacture
of this piece specifically for our
     auction.
     Patrick Mavros
     - The African Luxury Brand
The Patrick Mavros brand was founded
35 years ago when the then-soldier,
Patrick, carved a pair of earrings for his
wife, Catja. She wore them to the hair
salon, where the hairdresser fell in love
with them and instantly requested a
pair for herself. From this loving gift,
the business was born into what is
recognised today as a uniquely African
     and distinctively exotic, luxury brand.
The Mavros sons, Alexander, Forbes, Patrick Jnr and Benjamin are also
all passionately involved in the business. From day one the boys were
engrossed in the workshop, experimenting with materials and designs:
starting with heavy rough-hewn rock crystals they dug up from the farm,
suspended them from fishing line for their adoring and patient mother to
     wear!
Marrying intricate craftsmanship with an intrepid family heritage, the
Mavros family have not only designed some of the most extraordinary
creations in Africa but have also created around them an environment
     just as magical and bold.
At home, the workshops, the family homestead, the wildlife sanctuary
and the studio are all built to form a small village on the family estate in
the wild hills outside Harare in Zimbabwe.
As a business that is passionate about conservation on a global scale,
the team at Patrick Mavros were very keen to support S&TC and our
     work across the UK.

Three days for one rod (or two sharing) fishing Iceland’s fabulous Laxa
i Kjos, during the prime month of August, including full board at the
      luxurious fishing lodge.
The Laxa i Kjos is the centrepiece of one of the most stunning glacially-
forged valleys in Southern Iceland. A narrow upper canyon splays into a
gentle, peaceful, arable valley before cascading down the final falls and
pools into the sea. This exceptional river and its beautiful tributary can
be reached within an hour’s drive from Reykjavik. Besides being a first
class salmon river, it also has a very substantial run of good sized sea
trout, some straying into the 8-10lbs class and it goes without saying
that the sea trout add another exciting angle to this wonderful river.

4L. “A good fish” 60cm x
      60cm - Wall Sculpture
      in pewter, copper, resin
      and gold leaf by Sam
      MacDonald
Sam, who now lives in Perthshire,
grew up on the Isle of Lewis
and, after 4 years at Camberwell
School of Arts and Crafts training
      in Silversmithing and Metalwork,
lived on Orkney for 19 years. This
enabled his love of fishing, diving
and the sea to combine with
his developing skills in metalwork. Sam uses old, traditional metalwork
techniques to produce contemporary and unique works. He creates
impressions of fish, using the tactile effects that metal, its processes and
techniques have to offer. Travelling internationally to fly fish has opened
up new inspiration for Sam. Fishing in Venezuela, the Bahamas, and the
Dominican Republic for bonefish, permit, tarpon and barracuda have been
the source of inspiration for many recent pieces, as has salmon and trout
fishing in Iceland and Pakistan respectively.
Sam is a Signature Member of The Society of Animal Artists USA and a
member of the Redspot Artist group http://www.artangle.co.uk/redspot
He has been featured on BBC2’s ‘Coast’ programme.
‘There are many ways to record a memorable fish for posterity. But
metal? Artist Sam MacDonald works in pewter, gold leaf and brass and
he has taken many years to build a vocabulary of marks and colours in
metal. The results are stunning.’ Trout and Salmon October 2011
‘What at first glance look like paintings are more like 3D sculptures made
from metal, with a very particular character that lends itself very well to
fish and underwater subjects and a stunning amount of naturalism and
detail considering the material.’ Global Fly Fisher 2013.
‘For an artist who uses traditional metalwork techniques, capturing the
complexities of living game fish seems like a tall order. But from his
workshop in Perthshire, Scotland, Sam Macdonald creates, stunning relief
sculptures in which the fish seem to almost leap off the background.’
      American Angler Nov/Dec 2011
Work has been acquired for private collections all over the world and
Sam has recently installed a large salmon piece in the prestigious
West Ranga Lodge in Iceland. In 2012 Sam had a large solo show in
The Gallery, Cork Street, London. He has also shown at various group
exhibitions in galleries including the House of Bruar, CLA Game Fairs, the
Royal Scottish Academy, The Wykeham Gallery and Visions West Gallery,
      Montana.
‘My artistic endeavour is to observe and capture fleeting moments of
nature. I try to express an emotional response to something very private,
a moment shared between man and nature.’
N.B. Delivery of this lot is to be arranged by the winning bidder or
collected on the night of the auction.

5L. An Original artwork by Clare Brownlow
Clare has been drawing and painting
since she was old enough to hold
a pencil and brush. She was an Art
Scholar at Uppingham School and went
on to study art at Edinburgh College of
Art and Leith School of Art, where she
      specialised in atmospheric oil paintings.
After the birth of her first son in 2009,
in a quiet moment at her parent’s
      kitchen table in Norfolk, Pheasant
Feather Art was born. She picked up
a pheasant feather from her father’s
stash, dipped it in his fountain pen inks
      and started ‘’doodling’’.
Clare took this idea back to Scotland,
where she, her husband Charlie and
      their two small boys live.
Clare designed the front cover for the 25th anniversary brochure of the
Scone Game Fair, as well as winning the competition for the design of
the front cover for the CLA Game Fair 2014 brochure. Shortlisted in 2014
for Wildlife Artist of the Year, Clare has worked closely with and donated
paintings to a number of charities, including Tusk Trust, Born Free
      Foundation and GWCT.
Clare has donated this fantastic original artwork for our auction. The
work comes unframed to allow the purchaser to frame it to suit their
home. Delivery to be arranged by the purchaser.

6L. Solid silver and Leather Belt entitled “ Lucky Fish” By
      Patrick Mavros Jewellery
A handmade calfskin belt with a Sterling silver buckle featuring salmon.

Patrick Mavros - The African Luxury Brand - was founded 35 years ago
when the then-soldier, Patrick, carved a pair of earrings for his wife,
Catja. She wore them to the hair salon, where the hairdresser fell in love
with them and instantly requested a pair for herself.
From this loving gift, the business was born into what is recognised
today as a uniquely African and distinctively exotic, luxury brand. The
Mavros sons, Alexander, Forbes, Patrick Jnr and Benjamin are also all
      passionately involved in the business.
From day one, the boys were engrossed in the workshop, experimenting
with materials and designs: starting with heavy rough-hewn rock crystals
they dug up from the farm, they suspended them from fishing line for
their adoring and patient mother to wear!
