BEAVER RIVER ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION MEETING
Meeting December 12th , 2019 @ 10:00am Rossignol High Ile-a-la-Crosse
Meeting began at 10:30am.

Review agenda. Motion #1: Moved by Rita to adopt the agenda as presented. Seconded by Jamie.
All in favor. Carried.
A) Minutes of the last meeting, Sept. 12, 2019. Motion #2: Moved by Alwyn to adopt the minutes as
presented. Seconded by Jamie. All in favor. Carried.
B) Business arising from minutes: Check on handbook that changes made reflect last meetings minutes.
Track & Field addition to elementary events include the turbo jav. ( To be discussed further in the new
business section).
3. Reports:
Financial. See attached. Motion #3: Moved by Jamie to accept the financial statement as presented.
Seconded by Evan. All in favor. Carried. Discussion on not including Dillon in any units until their
BRAA fees are paid. Donation for medals & ribbons of $500.00 from SIGA. Still waiting to hear from
Metis Nation of Sask.
Review fall championships. Activity commissioners
X-Country – No units. A fun run in Buffalo did happen though and all went well.
Volleyball – Sr. Girls, (Ile-X) No issues. Sr. Boys, (Pinehouse) Daryl sent report on Ile-X leaving the
tournament without playing their last game. Committee was informed on Coach’s reason to do so.
Recommended for Discipline committee to deal with (at end of the meeting).
Volleyball Junior Girls – Buffalo Narrows – Matt . Garbage issues with teams. Junior Boys – LaLoche –
Zach. A Playoff needed to happen between the 1A teams (seeing how LaLoche won the BRAA
tournament, but because they are 2A they automatically advanced to a different category, leaving the 1A
teams not knowing who represents BRAA at the 1A boys districts.
Volleyball Bantam Girls – Green Lake - Rita. No issues, all went well.
Bantam Boys – Green Lake - Rita. No issues, all went well.
Volleyball Peewee Girls – South – Beauval – Stephen No issues.
- North – Ile-x – no issues.
Peewee Boys South – Beauval – Canoe Lake No show FINE??? Elaine
to talk to Stephen.
Peewee Boys North – LaLoche, no issues.

NWHSAA – See attached.
Coach/Official/Athlete Development – Len Williams Legacy Fund applications can be made by
coaches/leagues for coaches/athletes/officials development. Elaine to submit an application to NWHSAA
for a BRAA T & F Coaches/athletes development clinic. Application deadline is Jan. 31, 2020.
New Business –
Track & Field (Elem) discussion to add a Turbo Jav event to help with the development of students aged
11 and 12 years old for the Javelin event when they enter highschool.Motion #4: Moved by Matt to add Turbojav event to the elementary track and field
events for the 11 & 12 age group using the 28 inch long-300g implement. Sames
rules as the Sr. Javelin event will apply. Seconded by Evan. All in favor. Carried.
Elaine to put in the handbook.
Alternate Athletic Director of your schools. Suggestion made that each school’s admin should be
included in the loop regarding BRAA correspondence. Just to ensure each school is getting the
information should Athletic Directors not be available. Get your admin’s okay and send your names and
email addresses to Matt asap.
Medals and ribbons will need to be purchased for some of the spring activities.
Winter/Spring activity hosts and dates: See attached.

Presidents Report – December 12th 2019
1. BRAA Website
- Provide updates regarding local tournaments, results, calendar, multimedia, etc.
- Please make your coaches aware of the website and have them review the BRAA
Handbook located there.
2. NWHSAA Website
- Remind coaches and be aware ourselves that most of our district information is located
here. Use the website. Don’t email or call Kendra as your first point of reference.
- Coaches Directory – keeping recent lists of coaches for each sport in all of our schools.- After events send Kendra photo’s and write-ups about different sporting events. They
are showcased on the NWHSAA website.
3. Respect in Sport / Concussion
- Non-negotiable. Get it done. If coaches don’t have it they can’t coach.
- All coaches must be listed on the E-5 document in Ex-Net with their RiS #s.
- All coaches require the Concussion course.
- An email was sent to all admins in our division explaining the importance of the RiS
modules. Please speak directly with your admins about using PD time to have your
coaches complete the program.
4. FYI
- Coaches cards are now available. Order through SHSAA. $12 per card.
