MR. SWAIN’s WEEKLY NOTE
               January 19, 2021

HAPPY TUESDAY!

                                  MLK DAY VIRTTUAL FIELD TRIP
Observed each year on the third Monday in January as
“a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal
holiday designated as a national day of service to
encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their
                                  communities.

Yesterday our CSAMS students virtually visited the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in
our Nation’s Capital to learn about how Dr. King became a “force of change” during the Civil
Rights Movement.

As a culmination to this experience, students were asked to complete a reflection about
how the life and legacy of Dr. King relates to our enduring understanding for this term’s
“Forces of Change” Unit.

Mark your Calendar!
Our Virtual Beluga Ball is April 24th.
This is One Event you Don't Want to Miss.

                                       WHAT IS THE BELUGA BALL?
The Beluga Ball is the largest fundraiser of the year
hosted by our CSA District Parent Council. Every
year, Parent Council strives to raise funding beyond
the standard per-pupil allocations to supplement
school resources and promote the educational
programs of Charyl Stockwell Academy District
schools. Without the option to request school millage
funds, we rely solely on fundraising for additional support.

The 2021 Beluga Ball will again be 100% virtual this year to ensure the safety of our
CSA Community. The fun filled virtual night will consist of multiple raffles, a large silent
auction, and an exciting live auction conducted by one of Michigans' Top Auctioneers. This
event is typically attended by parents, staff, Alumni and supporters of the CSA District.

The funds raised annually at the Beluga Ball are used to assist with educational
enhancements (science lab equipment, kindergarten listening centers, math manipulatives,
educational software, and more), books for both CSA and CSPA libraries, play- ground
equipment, music and performing arts programs, art supplies and so much more.

               ADVISORY BELUGA BALL BASKET
This year our advisory basket theme is “YOU TOO CAN BE A WINNER!” We
are requesting “scratch- off” lottery tickets or a monetary donation of $5
per student. Please send in your donations

               BRRRR…
It’s that time of year when class rooms can be chilly! The CSAMS
uniform policy does not allow sweatshirts, coats, etc. Use this link to
see all the sweater/pullover options your student can order and wear

POWER SCHOOL
I will continue to provide students with progress reports during advisory on
Thursdays. Additionally, I will discuss their progress with them and help them develop and
“action plan” to ensure their success. Please make sure you are having similar discussions
with them at home. Working together increases your child’s success. Remember you can
check your child’s progress on PowerSchool at any time at
https://csadistrict.powerschool.com/public/. If you need support/help with accessing
your PowerSchool account, please let me know.

THIRD YEAR PARENTS
Project proposals were due last week. At this point, students should be working on their
research essay, using the questions they outlined in their proposals to guide their research.
Mark your calendars: Your child will be presenting their 3rd year presentation during the
evening of Tuesday, May 18, 2021.

                     LOOK FOR YOUR 2021- 2022
                     RE-ENROLLMENT LETTER IN THE MAIL

It's that time of year again! We continue to have an early Open
Enrollment period for the 2021-22 school year so that we will have adequate time to make
sure that each student that we can enroll will be enrolled, and that all families will be
treated with fairness.

Since you are already a CSA District family, your enrolled children have first choice for
returning next year. We hope that each of our students will return to CSA, and we hope that
MR. SWAIN's WEEKLY NOTE - January 19, 2021 - Webflow
our families will stay with us until each of their children graduate from CSPA High School.
If, however, you plan to make a choice for your children to attend a different school, we
would like to know that as soon as possible in the re enrollment process so that we can
make a space for a new student.

Re-enrollment forms are due back to advisory teachers by January 25th.
