COVID 19 & e-Commerce – A Global View | United Nations
• The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated digital transformations. Digital solutions are increasingly
needed to continue some of the economic and social activities remotely.
• This report makes a preliminary assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on e-commerce based
on available data.
• Countries in which governments are well-informed about e-commerce and have coherent strategies in
place have been able to respond to the sector’s needs more quickly and effectively
• Increasing the acceptance and adoption of cashless payments will hasten short-term recovery from the
crisis and lay the ground for stronger e-commerce in future.
• Pandemic conditions have also accentuated weaknesses in infrastructure for delivery of parcels.
Investing in improvements to postal networks, including the introduction of comprehensive physical
addressing, and enabling innovative/competitive delivery mechanisms is the need of the hour.
• Governments and BSOs should assist MSMEs and digital start-ups in building their financial capabilities
in ways that will improve access to investment. Read More
Conclusion:
All stakeholders – governments, businesses, consumers and international development partners – have
an interest in ensuring that e-commerce plays a positive and powerful part in national and international
recovery from the pandemic. Resources should be committed to that goal. Countries that develop
policies and programs in this regard shall be able to leverage the benefits and ‘build back better’; those
that do not risk being left behind.News & Announcements

Telemedicine and Telehealth Healthcare systems around the world are trying to bring down the exposure to Covid-19 for both patients and healthcare workers. Telehealth offerings like doctor video chats, AI-based diagnostics and no contact medicine delivery have allowed doctors to connect with their patients albeit in a much safer environment. With growing popularity of such solutions, we may see long-term changes in the regulatory frameworks & standards in healthcare industry. Cyber Security Mesh With more and more businesses adopting a hybrid working approach, the way organisations deal and enact cyber security shall undergo a change. Centralized cyber security strategy i.e. building a single 'perimeter' around all devices in a IT network shall need to be upgraded to a more decentralized approach with an aim to protect the identity of each node in the IT network. Tools like cyber security mesh provide CIOs to manage data in their organization in smaller manageable chunks & allows greater control through things likes asset verification and validation, cryptographic services etc. Augmented Customer With cutting edge Augmented Reality technologies being widely available in the market, businesses shall stive to improve customer experience through personalization aimed at prospective buyers. Many business especially in the retail industry have already grabbed on to these technologies. E.g. IKEA’s place app allows users see the brand’s products in a superimposed graphics environment. Nike’s Fit app allows users to get recommendations for best-choice shoes according to their feet measurement.
