BIKE SCOUTS ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE
Bike Scouts is the world’s social platform for doing good, we serve as a
network of support that helps ordinary people solve extraordinary
challenges through social teamwork.
Bike Scouts started in 2013 when it deployed seven teams of Volunteer Bicycle
Messenger teams to Tacloban City and around Leyte and Samar Provinces forty-
eight hours after Typhoon Yolanda made landfall in the Philippines. We provided
an alternative means of access to communications and essential supplies to
people and places that were isolated by the storm.
Bike Scouts is a member of the Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for
Disaster Reduction (GNDR), the largest international network of organisations
committed to improving the lives of people affected by disasters worldwide. We
are partners with SmartCT Citizens x Technology building resilient communities
via open data, and the Makati Business Club, Goozam, UNOCHA—CoPCE,
Decathlon, MovePH, Rapid Emergency Telecommunications Team, Zion
Emergency and Disaster Response Unit, The Embassy of the Netherlands in the
Philippines, The Embassy of Denmark – Manila, WeRobotics, Philippine Flying
Labs, Liter of Light, Philippine Business for Social Progress, Filinvest Lifemalls,
Standard Chartered Bank, among others.

Bike Scouts serve as a platform for doing good, we help people come
together as a network of support for each other in times of disasters
and need. To make what we do sustainable, we help brands engage
with people who buy their products by creating opportunities for
brands to do good where they do business—direct-to-people,
hyperlocal, scalable, measurable, and genuine. It’s not CSR, it’s your
brand doing good in the world in a way that makes business sense.

BICYCLE MOBILITY & SUSTAINABILITY For Communities We provide workshops and active learning experiences for groups, organizations, and schools that are looking to adopt bicycles and sustainability into their daily activities in a way that integrates into their culture or style of living. For Brands & Businesses We help companies and brands optimize the brand and business benefits of adopting sustainability and sustainable mobility for engagement by doing good where companies do business. SOCIAL PURPOSE & BRAND CITIZENSHIP We help companies and brands re-think and implement marketing and brand engagement strategy as a way of doing good where they do business. SOCIAL TEAMWORK & LEADERSHIP A workshop for teams, schools, and organizations about how to adopt the Bike Scouts platform, network, and resources to come together as a community and do tangible good locally and beyond. COMMUNITY-BASED DISASTER MONITORING & RESPONSE A workshop on organizing as a team or community to help monitor and respond to disaster events in line with the Bike Scouts network that provides global support for local challenges faced locally in terms of access to communications, data, rescue services, and humanitarian aid using social media and the Bike Scouts disaster monitoring app.

The Bike Scouts Midnight Ride is an annual team ride of the Bike Scouts
community where donated items such as toys, clothes, educational
materials, packaged food, and candies are wrapped as Christmas presents
and delivered by Bike Scouts to homeless children at midnight on Christmas
Midnight Eve. The project’s goal is to help less fortunate children experience the
Christmas holidays. When the children are with their parents the gifts are
Ride given to the parents who are the ones who give them to their children so
that they can have a memory of sharing Christmas as a family.

The Bike Scouts 1000Km Ride is an annual team ride of the Bike Scouts cycling
team and Pathfinder disaster response team that provides a chance to connect
and meet with all of the Bike Scouts communities throughout the route. Previous
rides have been limited to the Manila-Samar-Leyte-Cebu route but future events
will include Northern Luzon and other places. The riding team also makes stops

The Bike Scouts Greenway Project is a coordinated nationwide effort by
different Bike Scouts teams to work with their respective local government
units and communities in adopting bicycle mobility as policy and as a way
of life. The initiative is active in places like Laguna, Bicol, Samar, Leyte, Iloilo,
Cebu, and other places. The most successful to date is the province-wide
adoption of a Bike Scouts led bicycle mobility policy in Eastern Samar. Bike

Scouts Borongan organized the effort in partnership with other Bike
Scouts teams from Matnog in the north to Guiuan in the south of Samar.

The Bike Scouts World Bicycle Day event is an annual community activity in
celebration of the United Nations event to promote bicycle mobility among
its member states. The Bike Scouts event in the Philippines was sponsored
by Decathlon, Filinvest Lifemalls, among others in partnership with
UNOCHA-CoPCE. The latest World Bicycle Day celebration of the Bike
Scouts was organized online in partnership with the Embassy of the
Netherlands in the Philippines and the Makati Business Club. The event

The Bike Scouts Bicycle & Lantern Festival is an event that was launched in
participation with the Old Manila Eco Market and the Intramuros
Administration. The goal of the event is to promote awareness about the
importance of having flashlights or light source in household emergency kits
or go-bags. The event included workshops on emergency skills, cycling, and

making paper lanterns that are used in the sunset ride at the end of the event

The Bike Scouts Bicycle Library is part of an ongoing books and
school supplies donation drive by the Bike Scouts community.
With the support of donors from around the Philippines and
abroad, Bike Scouts donates and delivers high-quality reading
materials and supplies to isolated and under-served schools and

communities as well as street children and the less fortunate in
BIKE SCOUTS our own neighborhoods that need access to up-to-date
educational materials.

With nearly a decade of on-ground experience in almost all major
disaster events in the Philippines as the only full-scale
continuously operating community-based disaster response
system, Bike Scouts is a recognized platform for communities to
participate in social teamwork for resilience and social good. Bike
Scouts is the first and only platform to truly put social media and
the Filipino culture of “Bayanihan” to good use in times when both
are needed most.
We provide access to a network of support that allows ordinary
people to do extraordinary good, and we provide training and
tools for community-led disaster monitoring that localizes
response and makes reporting real-time and verifiable.
