Staying Connected in a Virtual Setting
BY JAVOHN PERRY, PRESCHOOL TEACHER/DIRECTOR

As the Normandy Park
Preschool Program
continues to flourish,
we are continually
finding new ways to
establish community.
As hard as that may
be, I must say we have
done an incredible job.
Although our classes
are strictly online, we
can interact, work
together, and learn as Pajama and Stuffed Animal Day!
a group.
Some of the things that help us stay connected and create a
sense of community are greetings and goodbyes, show & tell,
class jobs, group projects, sharing work, pajama day, and hat
day. These things also help with social/emotional development,
a significant concern with virtual settings. By doing these things,
we encourage taking turns, responsibility, and social skills.
We understand the importance of social interaction and
we can incorporate this into our virtual preschool program.
Although students have class online, they are not just staring
at a screen. They get to interact with their friends and teacher.
Most importantly, Normandy Park Preschool can encourage
ACTIVE learning while keeping us all connected.
