of subjects and qualifications.
Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) is undergoing significant transformation with the roll out of the Reform of
Vocational Education (RoVE). The reform will bring together polytechnics and industry training organisations across
Aotearoa under the parent company of Te Pūkenga (The New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology).
SIT is looking for a General Manager - People Capability and Safety who embraces change and will positively support
the organisation through the process.
About the opportunity
The General Manager - People Capability and Safety reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is a key
member of the SIT Senior Management Team. The overarching purpose of this role is to provide leadership in
the fields of human resources, wellbeing, health and safety and people development. You will take a hands-on
approach to drive strategy, identify gaps and implement a streamlined approach in operating core people,
safety, health and wellbeing practices and processes. You will strive to empower and enable staff to work to
their full potential. In doing this you will:
Be an active participant in and champion organisation transition, supporting the wider team to
embrace RoVE.
Lead and develop effective and efficient people and health, safety and wellbeing functions;
Develop and lead the implementation of workable people strategies that support overall business
goals and values including enhancing how SIT develop the quality of staff;
Support, enhance and streamline the staff training and development plan to ensure the deliverables
are relevant and align with Te Pūkenga and SIT visions and goals.
Enhance the performance of individuals and teams by providing staff with the support, tools and
power to be great leaders;
Lead and nurture a culture of engagement and continuous improvement across each Education
Sector; leading transformational initiatives and delivering on business objectives.

Purpose, expectations and values of the role
Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) is undergoing significant transformation with the roll out of the
Reform of Vocational Education (RoVE). The reform will look to implement several changes, over a period of
time, designed to create a strong and sustainable vocational education system. The reform will bring
together polytechnics and training organisations across Aotearoa under the parent company of Te Pūkenga,
the new national entity established under RoVE.
SIT is looking for a General Manager - People Capability and Safety who will embrace the upcoming
organisation changes and support the wider team as they move through the process. The role will also lead
the development and implementation of the people strategy, culture development and oversee leadership
development as well as strategic safety management.
The General Manager - People Capability and Safety reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is a
key member of the Senior Management Team. The principal purpose of this role is to provide senior
leadership in the fields of human resources, wellbeing, health and safety and people development. The
General Manager People Capability and Safety will take a hands-on approach to drive strategy, identify gaps
and implement a streamlined approach in operating core people, safety, health and wellbeing practices and
processes. You will strive to empower and enable staff to work to their full potential.
The General Manager - People Capability and Safety takes accountability for business excellence through
fostering an environment that is committed to developing the quality of staff in a way that promotes safety,
health and wellbeing and one that aligns with the goals and continuing objectives of SIT as a subsidiary of
Te Pūkenga.
In doing this, you will:
Lead and develop effective and efficient people and health, safety and wellbeing functions;

business goals and values including enhancing how Te Pūkenga and SIT develop the quality of
staff;
Support, enhance and streamline staff training and development plans to ensure deliverables
are relevant and align with Te Pūkenga and SIT, visions and goals;
