Hand-Carved Tiles

Our hand-carved tiles are available in an array of sizes –
from 4x4, 6x6, 6x9, as well as custom sizes.
                                                                         Hand-Painted Antiqued Single Glaze
Our hand-carved selection of tiles are also offered in
three glaze varieties to customize your project. See
below for more details.

Hand-Painted
Hand-painting uses our polychrome process. Our
artisans carefully paint each individual tile by hand,
making each entirely unique from tile to tile.

Antiqued
Antiquing is a process where each tile is glazed by hand
and then carefully wiped away, allowing the leftover
glaze too pool in the relief of the piece. This beautifully
reveals the final artwork.

Single Glaze
Our single-glazed tiles beautifully show off their
hand-carved detail.*

*Cannot guarantee results, subject to selected glaze and final design.

Fiona Ornament

This ornament commemorates the hippo that has
captured everyone’s hearts. Fiona was born six weeks
early on January 24th, 2017. Unsure of her survival, the
Cincinnati Zoo team sprung to action, providing her the
best possible care. To nearly everyone’s astonishment,
Fiona’s health improved drastically and she was able to
join her parents in their zoo habitat. Her story of perse-
verance has served as inspiration for many, and we are
thrilled to be able to help share her story through this
unique ornament.

For each ornament purchased, Rookwood donated
20% of the proceeds to the Cincinnati Zoo
Conservation Fund.

Scripps Spelling Bee

This piece was designed for the Scripps National
Spelling Bee to commemorate its 90th year. Inspired
by the Bee’s prestige and legacy, this piece features
a hexagonal base with bee filigree reminiscent of the
detailing on the champion’s trophy. The books pay
tribute to the Bee’s emphasis on promoting literacy
and learning, and the titles on their spines represent
the Bee’s ongoing mission to “inspire” students to
“discover” and “achieve.” The logo of the E.W. Scripps
Company is on the cover of the “Give Light” book, a
nod to Scripps’ motto “Give light and the people will
find their own way.”

There were two variations of this piece – one was single
glazed and the other was single glazed with small
hand-painted bees on the base. The handpainted
pieces were given to the leaders of the Bee as a special
touch, thanking them for their hard work.
