77RAUKANTEX lite – unusual light display

special feel-good factor and stylish ambience.
With the new RAUKANTEX lite REHAU offers an inno-
vative edgeband which - in addition to its conventional
application - can also be used as back-lighting.
In order to achieve this application, a cavity must
be milled into a chip or MDF board (38 or 50 mm
wide). An LED band (optionally also an RBG band) is
inserted into the cavity. The minimum covering layer
is 8 mm. The translucent edge in the centre is applied
to the board. In the case of free shapes on the BAZ
[edgebanding centre] (glue application to the edge) a
recessed glue application roller must be used which
leaves the central area of the edge free.
When switching on the LEDs the light is transmitted
through the translucent areas of the edgeband. The
application can also be modified to suit a honeycomb
board.

78Lacquered edgebands
The use of lacquered surfaces provides furniture manufacturers with
big advantages for small series production in particular. A cost saving
can be achieved in the production process in comparison to pure
MDF primarily by lacquering edged chipboards.
Here the application area of the lacquered RAUKANTEX
edgeband starts with a specially developed formulation
for optimum lacquer adhesion. It is designed on the
covering and full-surface lacquering with conventional
lacquer types.
The advantages of using RAUKANTEX laser edge
are expanded further for over-lacquering due to a
quality of the end product which leaves nothing to be
desired. The use depends on the material, but must
also be tested at the customer for individual lacquer
solutions.
