1. COMPETITION – Competition is defined as a contest for supremacy between two or more animals or articles or products
owned by separate exhibitors. One entry per individual, each class. Please note: if you show 4-H or FFA you cannot show the
same exhibit in open class.
2. CONDITIONS OF COMPETITION – If two or more exhibits are not competing in any class, exhibits must be of quality to
merit the awards given. Judges will give a lesser award, if the exhibit is not of high enough quality to merit the first place
award.
3. ENTRIES in all departments are open to everyone, unless the Fair Board considers an entry unfair to other exhibitors. Exhibits
must be entered under the name of the person who made them.
4. 4-H and FFA LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS: To exhibit or participate at the Mud Lake Fair, the exhibitor must live within
Jefferson County, or attend school within the county’s (3) school districts.
5. MUD LAKE FAIR BOARD does not assume any responsibility for any acts of violence or any injuries sustained during the
entire Fair. The spectators, contestants, and exhibitors must assume all risks.
6. EXHIBITORS of animals, machinery in motion, and other exhibits liable to occasion accidents, injury or damage to persons
coming in contact therewith, shall guard their exhibits and protect the public from coming in contact therewith, and every such
exhibitor shall indemnify the Mud Lake Fair Board from and against all claims and demands, costs, charges, and expenses
which it may occur, suffer, or be put to, by reason of any exhibit not properly guarded, or the public not being properly guarded
there from. Presentation of entry blank, or agreement or verbal or written concession contract shall be deemed acceptance of
this rule.
7. MUD LAKE FAIR BOARD reserves the right to interpret any question arising on rules and regulations.
8. Do not leave your exhibit until it is properly registered and numbered and/or recorded by the person in charge of that particular
class. The Fair Board will not assume any responsibility for any exhibit not registered properly.
9. Late or objectionable entries may be rejected by the Fair Board.
10. ALL ENTRIES must have been made or grown since the last Mud Lake Fair. Anything previously exhibited must be displayed
only. (Other than livestock.)
11. All Labels as to variety, such as the various kinds of flowers, should be openly displayed, but the exhibitor's name should be
taped on bottom, so it cannot be seen by the judge.
12. All open class entries must be entered Wednesday 4-7 p.m. or Thursday between 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
A. Large number of entries by one individual must be entered before 11:00 a.m. to facilitate entering before judging.
The fair building doors will be shut and locked between 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Thursday, for judging.
NO EXCEPTIONS.
B. NO ITEMS MAY BE REMOVED BEFORE 4:00 p.m. ON SATURDAY. IF SO, THE EXHIBITOR WILL BE
DISQUALIFIED FROM EXHIBITING THE FOLLOWING YEAR. EXCEPTION: Only extra 4-H/FFA animals,
those not to be sold at the livestock sale may be removed with the approval of the chairman at 4 p.m. Friday.
C. Entries in the Fair Building MUST be removed on Saturday at 4 p.m. If you cannot be there to pick up your items,
make the necessary arrangements. Any items left, can be picked up on a day named by the Indoor Open Class
Chairman.
13. Awards and Premiums not claimed by last day of fair will be forfeited.
14. 4-H and FFA Project exhibits cannot be entered in open class or cross over, but members are encouraged to enter additional
entries in open class.
15. ALL OPEN LIVESTOCK CLASSES, WITH EXCEPTION OF RABBITS AND POULTRY, WILL BE CHARGED $2.00
ENTRY FEE AT ENTRY TIME.
16. Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Divisions, are standard throughout the fair as follows:
. Juniors ages 4-10
. Intermediate ages 11-15
. Senior ages 16 and up
17. In all livestock shows, only the Judge, Ring Steward, and Species Chairperson are allowed in the show ring.
18. CURRENT (30 DAYS) HEALTH CERTIFICATE REQUIRED FOR ANIMAL EXHIBITION. INCLUDING BANGS TEST.
IF NO PROOF OF HEALTH CERTIFICATE, ANIMALS COULD BE REMOVED AND SUBJECT TO A VET CHECK.
19. EXHIBITORS of Poultry and Rabbits must be present and exhibit animal to the judge at the time of the class. Those animals
not presented will be for display only and not considered for judging or merit an award.
20. No bills will be audited or paid during the fair except labor bills. All claims against the Mud Lake Fair and Rodeo must be presented within
ten days after the closing date of the fair, excluding all Rodeo payouts.Grand Marshalls
Kyle and Shirley Downs
Blaine Kyle Downs grew up in Lewisville, Idaho years Kyle has helped farmers in Mud Lake and
until his 8th grade graduation. Kyle rode his horse Clark soil conservation districts develop farms and
from Lewisville to Hamer 1947 following irrigation systems. Kyle was the Mud Lake Fair

Lake. ) Level School was grades 1-8th grade and

ended. Shirley graduated from Terreton Elementary
the same year Kyle graduated from Roberts High
School.
Kyle went to the military in 1953. He spent 2 years
in Germany during the Korean War. The Korean
War ended while Kyle was on a ship taking him to
Germany. Kyle met Shirley in November of 1952
before he deployed. They wrote letters during the
two years Kyle was in service. Kyle attended Ricks
College 1955-1957 to be a civil engineer. Kyle &
Shirley married September 1956.
Kyle purchased the Hamer farm from his parents
and they moved to Hamer 1957. Kyle began
working for U.S. Soil Conservation Service in 1959.
Kyle served as Finance Clerk when they built the
Hamer L.D.S. Church in 1965.
Shirley and Kyle moved to Terreton in 1971 and
purchased the farm they still reside on. Thru the53rd Annual Parade

Baby Photo Contest: 5x7 black & white or color photo, only ONE child per photo, photo needs to have been taken AFTER last year ’s
Mud Lake Fair, photos will be judged in age categories from infant through six (6) years old. Prizes are given in each of those categories to
winners selected by a judge. Please print child’s name, age, gender, parents’ names, and phone number on the back of the photo.
**Children in the photo MUST be residents of West Jefferson County including Mud Lake, Terreton, Hamer, and Monteview.**
Family Photo Contest: 5x7 black & white or color photo, photo needs to have been taken AFTER last year ’s Mud Lake Fair. A prize will
be given to the best photo chosen by a judge. Please print name and phone number on the back of the photo.

Driver Divisions:
Junior Class - for kids ages 10-15 (both male and female)

Lawn Mower Classifications:
- Stock Class: As delivered from the factory with blades removed.
-Prepared Class: Prepared (modified) drive train, engine, etc.
-FX Class: Major modifications allowed.
Safety Rules:
-All drivers must sign a release discharging the Mud Lake Fair and Rodeo from liability. (Available prior to race.)
-Every driver must wear an automobile racing or motorcycle-type safety helmet.
Mower Requirements:
-Events are open to all self-propelled rotary or reel style riding lawn mowers.
-Mower decks must remain in place.
-CUTTING BLADES MUST BE REMOVED COMPLETELY FROM ALL MOWERS.

1. FAIR ENTRIES will be weighed at the fairgrounds Wednesday, August 10 th 4-7 p.m. Market animals will be weighed
in, health checked and will be assigned pens by the livestock chairman during these time periods. Absolutely no late or
early entries will be accepted, with the exception of lactating dairy cows which can be entered Friday, August 12 th by
7 a.m. All other dairy will be entered Thursday, August 11 th 4-7 p.m. Animals will not be entered or weighed unless
they are clean and rough fitted.
2. Animals exhibited in 4-H or FFA may not cross over with open class exhibits
3. Animals shown in the Market class may not be shown in breeding classes, and animals shown in breeding animal clas-
ses may not be shown in the market class.
4. FFA and 4-H members exhibiting beef, dairy, sheep or swine projects must enter the Showmanship contest and Quali-
ty class respectively. Showmanship and Quality will be judged separately. There will be five showmanship divisions
determined by age of exhibitor of current year.
1. FFA
2. 4-H Sr. 15-19 yrs.
3. 4-H Int. 12-14 yrs.
4. 4-H 8-11 yrs.
5. Novice 8-11 yrs. First year showing.
5. Animals entered in showmanship classes will be the 4-H and FFA MEMBERS’ OWN ANIMAL AND RECORD
BOOKS MUST BE COMPLETED BY EXHIBITORS!
Note: Only 4-H and FFA members will be allowed to show
animals in the show ring with the exceptions of the Judge
and Ring Steward during 4-H and FFA shows.
6. FFA and 4-H will show together in all classes, except showmanship class.
7. In all cases, the decision of the judge is FINAL.
8. All equipment, feed, and feeding equipment are to be KEPT NEAT AND TIDY. NOT IN THE SHOW ARENA.
9. All classes will be judged according to FFA/ 4-H standards. Exhibitors will comply with all general rules of the fair.
Animals will be shown by FFA/ 4-H members only, except by permission of advisors. The group award system will
be used for comparative judging of all exhibits. The record books are part of the project exhibits and will be checked
for completeness before projects are considered complete.
10. Any FFA or 4-H members may exhibit a project at either county fair, but not both fairs.
11. All FFA and 4-H members must own and care for animals for the following minimum days.
1. Beef – 130 days
2. Sheep – 60 days
3. Swine – 90 days
4. Dairy – 60 days
12. The Fitting of animals must be done by members. Parents, leaders, or other persons may only assist.
13. All FFA and 4-H members are responsible for their animals until 10:00 p.m. each night of the fair.
14. FFA and 4-H Livestock classes will be conducted in the same format as the open livestock divisions. Only extra
animals, those not to be sold at the sale, may be removed with the approval of the chairman at 4 p.m. Friday.
15. No milk or liquid products is aloud to be fed to animals at the fair.
16. No money will be released to exhibitors without livestock pens cleaned out. They need to be cleaned out after the sale.FFA / 4-H

Only animals pre-weighed on designated dates are eligible for sale: beef cattle, sheep, and swine (no chickens, goats or rabbits).
Floor will be set by floor buyer just prior to the sale OR when animal is brought to the ring.
Sale Rules:
1. Open only to FFA / 4-H members of Jefferson County or attend school in Jefferson County as defined below: (General rule
#4:“To exhibit at the Mud Lake Fair, the exhibitor must live within Jefferson County or attend one of the three school dis-
tricts within the county.”
2. Sale Limitations: any exhibitor may sell one (1) market animal only.
3. FFA / 4-H members selling steers will be subject to a brand inspection prior to the sale. This cost will be deducted from
seller’s check.
4. Animals must meet sale committee weight requirements of fair weigh-in to be eligible to sell.
5. Over weight animals will sell at maximum weight allowed, underweight animals will not sell.
6. Exhibitor with more than one market animal MUST NOTIFY the sale committee immediately after animals are judged for
quality, which animal they wish to sell in the market livestock sale.
7. The sale committee strongly opposes the use of tranquilizers on cattle at fair time.
8. Only one (1) animal can be sold per student.
9. Animals must be fit to enter show sale ring. NO unfit animals will be sold.
10. Sale committee will not be responsible for extra animals that do not go through the sale ring. (Extra animals will not be de-
livered to butcher or floor buyer.) Extra animals are not the responsibility of the sale committee and maybe removed from
pens and fairgrounds by Friday at 4:00 p.m. with chairman approval.
11. High rate of gain award for each species will be determined from the sale animal list.
12. All female sheep must have a Scrapies tag at weigh in.
13. Each animal sold will have a $5.00 selling expense deducted from paycheck.
14. No milk or liquid products to be fed to animals at the fair.
15. Pens need to be cleaned before any money is paid to exhibitor.

Fun Run”
FUN RUN on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 7:30 a.m. What better way to begin Fair week than to come out
and run in a 5K race. The race will begin and end at the High School by the track.
Sponsored by the West Jefferson Cross Country team. Prizes will be given out to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners
and prizes to the 1st place winners of various age division male and female.
You can register through mail the cost is $25.00 a person. We will be having a kid 1 mile run for $15.00 at
the track. You will receive a t-shirt child and adult sizes. When you register print your full name, age and
gender plus shirt size.
Please mail to Linda Smuin 1552 N. 1500 E. Terreton, Idaho 83450 with your fee. You can register that
morning but will not guarantee a t-shirt. Race starts at 7:30 a.m. but please be here at 6:45 to pick up packets.
Packets can be picked up Friday, August 5, from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the high school track. Hope to see ya
