2 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Members,

I would like to wish all CSC Members and their families a
joyous 2020!

Renovation work for our new F&B outlet at the Arrival Pavilion,
Mingle@Amber started in December 2019. I am pleased to
inform members that the café will open in February 2020.
This provides members a different F&B option in the Club
where they can enjoy a great cup of gourmet coffee prepared
by our baristas, be spoilt for choice by a wide selection of
coffee and tea along with exquisite pastries and cakes.

Our Swim CSC also concluded the year with a splash at the
35th Junior Inter-Club Swimming Championships held on
10 November 2019. 48 of our junior swimmers participated
in the event and they clinched 23 Gold medals, 9 Silver
medals and 10 Bronze medals. Swim CSC emerged
the overall 1st runner up with a team score of 830.50.
My heartiest congratulations to our budding champions.

I am pleased to announce that over $18,000 was raised for the President’s Challenge 2019 through the combined
efforts from the various Sports Sections. Thank you one and all for your generous support.

In 2020, members can expect a plethora of exciting events and activities as our Sports and Lifestyle team has lined up
a myriad of fitness programmes, leisure classes, dance lessons, culinary workshop and more. With these wide ranging
programmes and activities, it is hoped that members and their families can spend more quality time together.

As we herald in the Lunar New Year, the Club has prepared 5,000 packs of CSC Ang Bao packets to giveaway
to members. Collection is at Arrival Pavilion Front Office. On 1st February 2020, we will celebrate the annual
Spring Festival. Bring the kids to watch the traditional Lion Dance performance. As we will be celebrating the Spring
Festival event in the evening for the first time, please refer to the ensuing page for more information.

During Chinese New Year, Man Zhu Café will be offering delectable festive goodies and the ever so popular
Salmon Fa Cai Yu Sheng. Members will be delighted to know that Man Zhu Café will be updating the menu. Look out
for a new gastronomic experience.

Before I sign off, I would on behalf of the Management Committee and Administrative staff, wish all Members and
your family good health and a Prosperous Chinese New Year! Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Shalom and God Bless.

29 NOVEMBER
The Harmonica Ensemble from Nanyang Polytechnic
lit up the members’ Christmas spirits on the evening of
29 November 2019 at the Recreation Complex with their
enchanting performances of the “Winter Wonderland” and
“Deck The Hall”.

Our Santa and Santarina also spread their joy and handed
out goodies to members and their loved ones. Everyone was
excitedly taking memorable pictures in front of the elaborately-
decorated Christmas tree and the “snowy” Christmas lamp.

The Christmas Light Up was graced by the Management
Committee members and the General Manager/Secretary
of the Club and officiated by our Vice President - General,
Mr Peter Liew.

The festive atmosphere continued to sparkle with the melodious
carolling by the Voice Ensemble from Nanyang Polytechnic,
accompanied by the strumming from the guitarist. The evening
came to a beautiful finale as both ensembles collaborated and
performed a cheery song of "Rudolph, The Red Nose Reindeer".
Merry Christmas everyone!

                  21 NOVEMBER
On 21 November 2019, our members had an enjoyable
session of Spanish Tapas Wine Dinner at Manzhu Alfresco.
Everyone indulged in a spread of delectable tapas paired
with Spanish wine while learning the tips on Spanish wine
making and the true meaning of “tapas”. It was indeed an
epicurean wine journey where members learned about the
wines, winemakers and Spanish cuisine.

RACE PLANNING
As we move in to the competition phase and preparation towards the SNAG Championships, Coach
Michael describes some of the elements necessary to prepare for race day.

TRAINING AND TAPER
Competition performance or racing is the end result of everything we prepare and train for. Coaches
at CSC set annual and then shorter training cycle blocks (typically around 12 weeks, like a school
term). During this sort of cycle, swimmers will build up volume (distance) and improve fitness. They will
then do a lot of high-quality work specifically targeting race performance. There will then be a short
decrease in volume of training (Taper) and then they compete. Usually there is a short recovery (light)
week and the cycle repeats itself.

This sequence is a standard approach to competitive swimming • Equipment list – prepare your bag the night before and include
