How to Promote Your Business Online in 2021 - Getting Started With Online Marketing - SQSP Design
Squarespace Website:
We assume that you have a website to promote. Our preferred choice is
Squarespace because you can easily accomplish anything you want on your
website at a low cost. In fact, most of our customer websites has been designed
and built on Squarespace.
pssst!… Just a sneaky suggestion, if you are too busy to build and design a
website, we are happy to help.

Google Analytics:
We love using Google Analytics on our websites so we can learn exactly what is
happening on our website. Google Analytics will give you real-time visitor data,
audience information, acquisition data, and conversion tracking. You can learn
about your website visitors, who they are, where they are from, and what their
interests are. By using Google Analytics data to your advantage, you can grow
your audience faster and improve the User Experience on your website.
Go to google.com/Analytics/ to easily install Google Analytics for your website.

Google Search Console:
Google Search Console will help you monitor your website in Google search
results. You can view how many clicks you are driving from organic Google
searches and connect that data with Google Analytics. Whether you have a
website or a local business, Search Console can help you find the top keywords
so you can grow your business.
Go to google.com/Webmasters/ to easily install Google Search Console for your
website.

Google My Business:
Your Google Business page is vital, especially if you own a local business. You can
put your services, hours, address, information, photos, phone number, and more.
In addition, customers will leave reviews and you can gain additional business by
having a strong Google Business profile. People are constantly searching for
local businesses and restaurants, so your Google Business Profile is vital. You can
even add posts to show visitors and respond to reviews to manage any customer
service problems.
Go to google.com/Business/ to manage your Google Business page.
Social Media Profiles:
The top Social Media channels are Facebook, YouTube,
Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and
SnapChat. The mistake many marketers and business
owners make is trying to use all of them without any
support staff. I would highly recommend taking a look at
Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and
Twitter. If you aren’t positive, see what your competitors are
using, because it depends on your business type. For the
best results, choose 3-4 networks that work best for your
business and stay active on them to build an audience.

SEO and Local SEO (If Applicable):
Search Engine Optimisation is difficult for beginners, but it is the best way to
reach potential customers. Whether someone is searching for local restaurants,
wedding venues, or new shoes, SEO will help drive traffic to your business and
traffic to your store. You want to rank high in search engines so people can easily
find your products and services, contact you, purchase from your website, or visit
your store. Regardless of your goal, spending time and money on SEO will deliver
the best results in the long run.

Creating Customers Online:
Most consumers are finding new companies by searching online when they
purchase products and services. When I visit a new city, I search Google,
TripAdvisor, and Yelp for restaurants in those cities. When I’m looking for an
electrician, I search Google to find the top rated electricians near me. When I’m
looking for a new bedding set, I might search Google or Amazon to find ideas.
YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR BUSINESS LISTED WHEN PEOPLE SEARCH FOR
PRODUCTS/SERVICES THAT YOU OFFER!

Start With Google:
You want to start by trying to rank high in Google. You can use a tool like the
Google Keyword Planner or a tool like UberSuggest to find the keywords that
people search to find a business like yours. Whether you own a Restaurant in
London, New York or you are selling chocolate cookies in the United Kingdom,
keyword research will help you learn more about how to optimise your website.
Hire a Search Engine Optimisation agency or an SEO professional to optimise
your website for search engines.
Understand Your Competitors Strategy:
There are plenty of competitive analysis tools, but the best strategy is to
understand what your competitors are doing. You can use competitive analysis
tools like SEMRush, SpyFu, BuzzSumo, and/or Social Blade. You should know
what social media channels your competitors are using and what search engines
they are optimising for. For example, if you are in the travel industry, websites like
TripAdvisor and Yelp play a huge role for getting more customers. If you are in
home decor, websites like Pinterest can help you gain more customers.

Know Your Target Audience:
I can’t say this enough: knowing your target audience is vital. Most 18-25 year
old’s are not walking into upscale home decor stores. Most 65+ year old’s are not
buying power tools. If you understand your target audience and who actually
purchases products and services from you, you can gear your content and online
marketing strategy to your target audience.
Tools like Google Analytics can help you understand your audience
demographics and interests with ease. You can use that information to gain even
more customers.

Create Helpful Content For Your Customers:
One of the main things I learned from creating YouTube videos is that it generates
a lot of Marketing leads for my business. A business owner would rather focus on
their strengths than learning Google Ads, so they contact SQSP Design for help.
Creating content will drive more customers to your business and help grow their
trust.
If you’re a pool supplies company, you can create helpful videos for installing
pool supplies. If you’re a jewellery company, you can write articles about the
different types of jewellery, metals, and popular trends. If you’re a tax
preparation company, you can write articles about different tax laws. If you are a
yoga instructor, you can create yoga videos and helpful yoga-related content.
Regardless of your industry, you can create content that helps drive people to
your business and encourages them to purchase your products or services.

Online Marketing Is An Investment
I worked with a restaurant in the past to create their website and help their local
marketing strategy. They also hired me as the photographer, I took pictures of
the food and the restaurant. I was able to show people exactly what to expect
when you visit the restaurant and keep an up to date menu online. In addition, my
clients learned how to post their daily specials and pictures of their meals on
social media networks like Facebook and Instagram. It might have been an
upfront cost for the restaurant, but it is still successful today and once the
restaurant had a strong presence online, it was able to gain more customers and
ultimately more overall orders per day.
You need to understand that Online Marketing will require an investment of
either time or money. If you aren’t sure what to do, try to find a highly rated
marketing agency and start building your online presence.

Work With Artists, Designers, and/or Photographers
If your brand needs a face lift, if you need professional photos, if you need
graphics designed, work with a professional designer. They are great at what
they do and people don’t use them enough. If you are not a logo designer, don’t
try to design your own logo. If you’re trying to show potential customers anything
about your business, use a professional photographer.

Email Marketing:
You can use a service like MailerLite to build an email list and send them
messages. Whether you own a liquor store and you want to let people know
about tastings and new products or you sell sports equipment on your E-
commerce website, Email Marketing can help you engage your current
customers. I have an email list at SQSP Design (You are likely on it if you are
reading this book) and I can send out messages when I create new content to
people who I know are interested in my content.

Paid Advertising:
Google Ads:
Google Ads has been the best platform for about 19 years. People have always
went to Google to find the information they are looking for. You can target
keywords that are valuable to your business and drive new customers. There are
many advanced tactics as well to track conversions like leads or sales. You can
also use audience targeting to reach people who were past customers or who
showed interest in your products or services. In addition, you can run Google
Display ads through Google AdWords targeting the Google Display Network,
which reaches about 90% of the entire internet. We offer this service here.
Bing Ads:
Bing Ads is very similar to Google Ads except your ads run on Bing and Yahoo
instead of Google. You can actually run identical campaigns in Google Ads and
Bing Ads targeting the same exact keywords, running the same exact ads, and
driving traffic to the same landing pages. Bing Ads is a great PPC Advertising
channel that not enough people take advantage of. We offer this service here.

Pinterest Ads:
Pinterest ads are not used enough by people and they work great if you are
trying to appeal to people interested in crafts, recipes, DIY, home and garden,
health, and more. You can also run business related ads because more and more
people are using Pinterest in a wide variety of niche markets.
Facebook Ads:
Facebook Ads can be used for every type of business, whether you are a local
company trying to reach people in your local market or a large E- commerce
website. There are plenty of different ad types and campaign goals, so you can
run different types of ads to accomplish any goal.

Instagram Ads:
Instagram is another social channel where you can run social ads. You have
different advertising options in addition to all of the incredible Facebook ad
targeting. Instagram ads are a great way to reach your audience, increase video
views, promote content, and drive sales.

YouTube Ads:
YouTube ads can work for any marketing objective. Do you have a new product
or service you want to promote? Do you want to drive leads to your business? Do
you want to promote your product? Regardless of your product or service, a
targeted YouTube advertising campaign can certainly drive results for your
business. We offer this service here.
LinkedIn Ads:
Last but not least, LinkedIn Ads give you access to business professionals and
people looking to make professional connections. You can run your ad to
marketing professionals and promote something like a free eBook or video
series.

Getting Started With Paid Advertising:
If you don’t know where to start, your best bet is to hire a Digital Marketing
company or Paid Advertising Agency to help. They have professionals that will
make the investment worthwhile in the long run. Otherwise, the tutorials on
YouTube channel should help cover the basics.

In Summary
Create a website, create content on your website, solve your customers problems
with your content, know your target audience, learn search engine optimisation,
copy your competitors, use social media channels and optimise for the search
engines where they search, give your customers a great online/offline user
experience, and use paid advertising to reach new customers. Online marketing
can seem complex, but it’s a requirement in 2020 and beyond if you want to grow
your business.
