• Communicating research outcomes through the media and other
avenues helps relay scientific information and evidence based

write a weekly column in their Wednesday Healthy Community

weekly nutrition tips and tidbits of information.
• We appreciate their efforts and accuracy in conveying nutrition and
health information statewide. Over 300 articles on nutrition and
health written by dietitians and dietetics students have been
published by the CDA Press.
• The CDA Press has changed peoples lives! This year the Idaho
Academy’s Gem Award is given to the CDA Press for their support
of accurate and up to date sound nutrition information.

Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year 2014
Amy Kramer, RD, LD

Internship), ISU adjunct faculty member, president of the Pocatello Dietetic Association, Chef and Clinical Dietitian at
Portneuf Medical Center (PMC).
• After graduation, Amy completed the ISU dietetic internship where she continued to excel. Preceptors frequently
commented on her professional abilities and work ethic. She also served as the intern representative to our ISU Dietetic
Advisory Committee. Within weeks of completing the internship, she was offered a job with PMC as a clinical dietitian.
In the years that have followed, Amy has been promoted to management in a chef position overseeing the foodservice
side of the operation. She also keeps her clinical skills sharp with one day a week devoted to patient care. In 2012, Amy

• Amy serves in a leadership role for the Pocatello Dietetic Association since her graduation from the internship in 2009.
She has served as the president for the last few years, organizing continuing education events and providing
communication links from the state association to the area members. As you know, Amy has also served on the
nominating committee for IAND for the past two years. In her spare time, she takes one to two graduate classes per
semester to complete yet another personal goal of obtaining a master’s degree in public health.
• Losing her mother at the age of 19 and her father a few years later, Amy quickly learned to be responsible for her own
destiny. She sets personal goals and gives 110% to achieve them. She has excellent leadership skills, demonstrated both
through her job and her professional affiliations. She is passionate about the field of dietetics and promotes dietitians at
every opportunity. Amy has many more successes yet to obtain. No doubt, leadership in our professional will be among
them.

Outstanding Student Awards
Brigid Callinan, ISU Didactic Program
• The faculty are pleased to nominate Brigid Callinan as the outstanding dietetic student for the State of Idaho as a graduating senior in the didactic
program in dietetics at Idaho State University.
• Brigid is a non-traditional student with many life experiences. She has a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from the University of Idaho
and an associate’s degree in Culinary Arts from the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont.
• After working as a chef for many years she decided to pursue the education to become a Registered Dietitian. Brigid came home to Pocatello and
the dietetics program at ISU to complete her dietetic courses. As fate would have it, the culinary arts program at ISU also needed an instructor, so
Brigid wore a chef ’s hat in addition to her student hat. While teaching full time in the culinary arts program, she has taken a full load of classes
excelling in both. In addition to her roles at ISU, she volunteers teaching nutrition with the Cooking Matters program through The Idaho Foodbank
and has been a very active member in both the Student Dietetic Club and the Beta Rho chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron National Honor Society.
• All of the ISU dietetic faculty have found Brigid to be an excellent student. She is creative in her projects and is very comfortable in front of an
audience whether a grade school class or senior citizens. She and her lab partner in an Experimental Foods class mastered a dairy free cupcake
substituting coconut milk and sweet potatoes for the fat. This fits well with her career goal to combine her culinary arts skills with her nutrition
knowledge to better educate the public on healthy eating.
• Brigid attended FNCE in 2013 on her own in order to network and see the professional conference. Brigid is awaiting her internship placement
results, (should know by the conference as its posted on April6, 2014). Brigid will be an excellent intern, dietitian and leader in the dietetic association and
the field.

• The faculty are pleased to nominate Colleen Webb as the outstanding dietetic student for the State
of Idaho as a Dietetic Internship in the at Idaho State University.

church-related activities. Involvement with her church has always been a major part of Colleen’s life.
As a church youth group, they have an activity every Monday night where she has volunteered to
plan and lead these activities, which typically involve community service, dinner or refreshments,
education, or recreation. For example, for one activity conducted was a “health night” where she led
a diet/exercise-centered discussion and prepared a nutritious meal.
• Colleen is considered one of the leaders in her church. Other things she enjoys include preparing
new recipes, reading, playing sports (especially basketball, volleyball, and swimming), and practicing
the piano.

Chocolates. Needless to say, he also became an expert in chocolate!
• During the internship, Simon received high marks on his classroom work and in his rotations. His preceptors described him as
positive, professional, polite and a pleasure to work with. Simon asks excellent questions and is eager to learn and help in any
