Digital Discipleship
Our digital discipleship approach involves equipping students to make wise decisions and taking healthy
precautions while taking full advantage of the latest technology to stay up to date.

We believe young people must be trained in wisdom as well as safety. Students need discipleship from adults
to develop the skills, values, and inner strength to maintain a healthy balance, resist temptation, and master
the media's pull.

 In Middle School, the safety message is reinforced with education about responsible use, digital
footprints, cyber-citizenship, and discernment of reliable resources.
 In Senior School, students deconstruct media, critically analyse its covert and overt messages, and
identify stereotypes and bias. They learn about problematic internet use, copyright, and security. They
practise recognising and countering the fallacies and flaws in logic so common in the media.

Safety First
Student safety is a priority for Northside Christian College. Together, Chromebooks and GoGuardian, provide a
safe environment for students to work and research in wherever they are connected to the internet.
GoGuardian also provides teachers with the tools they need to manage student Chromebook use in the
classroom.

Chromebook Program
Each Secondary School student receives a College-owned laptop under our Chromebook program. The
Chromebook program maximises students’ educational outcomes by:

 Providing systems that are ready for new online assessments including NAPLAN and Senior School
        assessment.
 Allowing for collaboration in the classroom through Google Suite for Education.
 Using tools used by corporate business and universities.
 Promoting use of web-based resources not limited by device.

Camping Program
All grades from Year 3 to Year 12 attend an annual camp. Camps create the perfect balance of challenge and
fun where students collaborate to discover hidden strengths and build resilience. At the same time, students
develop perseverance, responsibility, confidence, positive attitudes, and interdependence.

In all the camp settings, there are three underlying purposes:

             1. To allow for reflection on the student’s relationship with God
             2. To enhance teacher-student relationships in an informal setting
             3. To widen the breadth of wholesome leisure pursuits.

Middle School Sport
Northside Christian College Secondary School is part of the North West Independent District.
Representative pathways are available for talented athletes through North West Independent District
and Metropolitan North Regional carnivals.

Participation in the Brisbane Outer Schools League (BOSL) provides a range of opportunities for students
to represent the College in weekly fixtures. Sports included are touch, futsal, basketball, volleyball, netball
and soccer. Regular Wednesday afternoon (Years 7 & 8) and Thursday afternoon (Year 9) sport, held from
12.40pm to 3pm, involves Academy Training sessions for students who represent the College in BOSL
teams or swimming, cross country or track and field. Students not involved in BOSL or carnival sports
participate in a varied sport program which promotes the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle (including
interhouse competitions, sports-specific coaching sessions, fitness, strength and conditioning training and
healthy lifestyle information sessions) during this time.

In addition, students can represent Northside on various sporting teams at Christian School Sports
Association of Queensland (CSSAQ) gala days and carnivals, as well as a variety of one-day tournaments
including Super 7’s Netball, Bill Turner and Uhlsport Cups.

Music Program
Students can participate in our instrumental music program. This may take the form of private or shared
lessons, or just participating in one of our music groups (Orchestra, Stage Band, Concert Band,
Stradivarious Strings, Strung Out, Flute Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, etc).

For those who enjoy singing over playing an instrument, opportunities to perform include involvement
Chapel, specific items throughout the year or as part of the Middle School Voices choir. Northside has a
proud tradition of hosting excellent musicals every two years. Students who are in Year 9 (and end of year
8) are eligible to audition and participate in these events.

Middle School Student
Leadership
At Northside Christian College we believe that a true leader is one who has a desire to serve others first -
putting the needs of others first, helping to make others better, wiser, more autonomous, increasing their
capacity. A true leader cares deeply for others, loving them, empowering them, noticing and being present

                                                                                                              11
to them. As the Bible says, disciples of Jesus Christ are “living epistles … read by everyone.” Leading by
good example is the biblical pattern set out for all believers, young and old.

The Middle School leadership program encourages critical and creative thinking, effective
communication, collaboration and team work and development of personal and social skills with
stimulating opportunities in Years 8 and 9.
