1. Mountains: The rolling mountains represent the challenges that we face and obstacles to overcome. They
test our character and grit to persevere in the face of adversity and live up to our motto, “I will try!”
2. ROTC Scroll: Represents the 100 years since the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps formally established
under the National Defense Act of 1916. Norwich University is nationally recognized as the birthplace of 1
ROTC. This senior military college in the Green Mountain State has
produced thousands of leaders for our military and our nation since our
founding father and visionary Captain Alden Partridge opened the
gates to the American Literary Scientific and Military Academy
on August 6, 1819 in Norwich, Vermont. 2
3. Statue of Liberty: A gift from the people of France,
Lady Liberty has welcomed millions of immigrants to
America seeking a better life of freedom and
independence. At her feet rest the souls of those lives cut
short by cowardly acts of terrorism or those standing in
its defense. Let her beacon of light serve as their memory
and our reminder that America continues to be the “land
of the free and home of the brave.”

4. Flag: The American flag illustrates the fabric of our
country, our citizens, and the enduring freedom we cherish. It
also represents what we are willing to preserve and defend at 4
home and abroad as a civilian, public servant, or citizen soldier.
5. Sabers: From our founding days to the modern era, Norwich
has held a distinguished reputation for producing outstanding 5
Army officers in cavalry and armor regiments. Crossed sabers
adorn our uniforms. Today, the sabers represent all four military
service branches of the United States - Army, Navy, Marine Corps,

and Air Force (bottom left clockwise).
6. Doors of Plumley: On August 17, 2014 we entered the doors of 7
Charles A. Plumley Armory as Rooks. On February 1, 2015 at 2304
we became proud Norwich cadets and marched out these same doors to
a new beginning. In the words of Anurag Prakash Ray, “Today I close 8
the door of the past, open the doors to the future, take a deep breath step
on through and start a new chapter in my life.”
7. Cannon: The cannon is a symbol of legacy and the time-honored 9
traditions at Norwich. Its roaring blast has awakened generations of Rooks
during Rook Week. In ceremony, cannon volleys are fired for our daily
Reveille and Retreat, and to honor our distinguished guests and those who
have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our
Constitution. It will be fired at Commencement when we
stand unified as smart, confident, and morally grounded leaders ready to serve our
nation.
8. Castle: The rook piece displayed on the base of the ring’s class side represents
Rookdom, the foundation of the Norwich experience. It is from that
foundation that Norwich men and women of honor and character are forged.
9. Chain: The chain itself represents our bond to those who came before us.
The fracture in the link represents the ongoing challenge to maintain the
ideals, traditions and Guiding Values of our beloved institution. Norwich

In order to comply with Payment Card Industry (PCI) Standards, Jostens will not be accepting any credit or debit card
information at the time of ordering. We have developed a secure and simple process that allows for flexibility and
convenience. Please refer to the following guidelines for credit/debit card payments:
a. Upon placement of your order(s), you will be given a payment due date which will be located on the front of your order
form. This date is when your final payment will be due to Jostens. By complying with this date you will insure that your
items will ship with your Class.
b. You have 30 days from the time that you place your order(s) to make any changes. After the 30 days your order(s)
will be entered into production at which time you will no longer be able to make any changes.
c. You will need to allow (5) weeks from the time you place your order(s). After the (5) weeks you will then be able to
log onto: www.jostens.com/payments to set up your personal account and begin making payments. Once you have set
up this information you will begin receiving e-mail notices until your account is paid in full.
OPTION 2: PAYMENT IN FULL
You can make full payment by CHECK or MONEY ORDER at the time of order. Make your check or money order payable to
JOSTENS. Please note that for security purposes, cash will not be accepted.
