At the end of Key Stage 2, all Year 6 pupils take
the KS2 SATS (Statutory Assessment Tests)
They comprise of:Reading, Grammar, Punctuation
and Spelling and Maths
Teacher Assessment for Writing and Science.
2•Key Stage 2 SATs take place nationally in the week commencing
13th May 2019.
•Statutory tests will be administered in the following subjects:
oReading (60 minutes)
oSpelling (approximately 15 minutes)
oPunctuation, Vocabulary and Grammar (45 minutes)
oMathematics
- Paper 1: Arithmetic (30 minutes)
- Paper 2: Reasoning (40 minutes)
- Paper 3: Reasoning (40 minutes)
•All tests are externally marked.
•Writing will be ‘Teacher Assessed’,
as in recent years.
3 Your child will still be taught with the highest
expectations and cover all required elements of the
curriculum, similar to previous years.
The current curriculum is more rigorous and sets
high expectations which all schools have had to
work hard to meet since the beginning of 2015.
4Scaled Scores
• 100 will always represent the ‘national standard’.
• Each pupil’s raw test score will therefore be converted
into a score on the scale, either at, above or below 100.
• A child who achieves the ‘national standard’ (a score of
100) will be judged to have demonstrated sufficient
knowledge in the areas assessed by the tests.
• Each pupil will receive:
o A raw score (number of raw marks awarded).
o A scaled score in each tested subject.
o Confirmation of whether or not they attained the
national standard 5Raw scores
• The conversion to scaled scores from raw scores
last year was as follows:
• Reading Raw score of 28/50 =100 (40=110)
• Maths Raw score of 61/110=100 (96=110)
• SPAG Raw score of 38/70=100 (56=110)
CAUTION: These scores vary each year and are
fixed after comparisons with other children from
across the country who took the same test. We use
these as a guide only. 6On publication of the test results in July:
• A child awarded a scaled score of 100 or
more is judged to have met the ‘national
standard’ in the test.
• A child awarded a scaled score of less than
100 is judged to have not yet met the
national standard and performed below
expectation for their age.
7• There are not any separate tests for higher attaining
children
• Instead, each test will have scope for higher attaining
pupils to show their strengths.
• Higher attaining children are expected to receive a
scaled score of over 110 in their papers however they
will be compared to children with similar starting
points

The paper will be scored out of 50.
Raw scores are converted into a scaled score, with 100 representing the
expected standard.
Some questions are multiple choice or selected response, others require
short answers and some require an extended response or explanation
10Breakdown of reading
Marks will be awarded as follows:
Multiple choice or other selected responses: 10% - 30%
Short responses: 40% - 60%
Extended responses: 20% - 40%

26How can you help?
*Encourage a “you can do it” attitude
*It’s a partnership – speak to the teacher if you
have any concerns.
*Ensure your child has the best possible attendance
throughout the year.
*Homework – this is crucial as it’s structured to
be revision from the week’s learning
27*Ensure children GO TO BED EARLY!
*It is essential to keep reading regularly and
to have opportunities to answer questions
about reading
*Keep up the times table practise, so they
don`t become rusty.
*Support the children with learning the Year
3,4,5,6 spellings. They will not be at age
expectation in writing if they cannot spell
these.
28Breakfast club
*We will run a free breakfast club during the
week of the SATs

it helps them to be with their friends if they
