A Note from our Pastor
Father Mark Arnzen
Before I begin the article a little note of caution: Many of you have received this week
another email or text from "Fr. Mark Arnzen" asking for a favor. Once more those
who perpetrate these frauds are preying on your goodwill. Please be assured that I,
Fr. Steve or any priest would send a request in this manner. Please do not respond
to these requests.
Perfection and cheating: how do lies continue to corrode our love and trust in
something greater?
We are only a couple of weeks into the New Year and baseball has had a lot to talk
about. The first began with perfection. On the first day of the year Don Larsen died.
In baseball terms he had an average career. A pitcher with a lifetime loosing record
with the exception of a magical day, on October 8, 1956, when he threw a perfect
game in the World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers. He will be forever
remembered not for the career but for the one exceptional moment which no one

Bishop Oscar Cantú invites all couples celebrating their 1st through
5th, 25th, 40th and 50th (or more) Wedding Anniversaries in 2020 to
participate in the Annual Wedding Anniversary Celebration Mass at
the Basilica Cathedral of St. Joseph. If you would like to concelebrate,

marriage. Some experience coldness. Others experience conflict in their relationship. Most don't know how to change the situation
or even communicate with their spouse about it. This program has helped 10's of 1000's of couples experiencing difficulties in their
marriage. For confidential information about or to register for the February program beginning with a weekend on February 7-9,

St. Lucy Volunteer Opportunities
God encourages each of us to contribute our Time, Talent, and Treasure to our faith community. We call it Stewardship.
God gives generously to each of us and asks only that we give a portion back.
The New Year (Liturgical and Calendar) is a good time to think about what we are doing and to make changes.
Your community here at St. Lucy needs you!
If you are not currently involved in a St. Lucy Ministry, please review the Volunteer Opportunities display at each of the
church entrances.
Choose one and choose to be an active part of the community and the many blessings we give and receive from each
other.
Consider again your donations to our parish. Choose to give a portion of what God gives you.
Whether your tithe is 1 part in 100 (1%), 1 in 20 (5%), or 1 in 10 (10%), choose to receive the blessings God gives to
those who tithe.

ALTAR DUTY MINISTERS:
Do you ever wonder who takes care of the Altar linens and Candelabras for the Masses at St Lucy Church? It is a ministry
of men and women from the Parish that volunteer to help one day a week for one month of the year. Training will be
provided. This is a very rewarding ministry with tangible results that you see at each Mass. If interested please call Betty
Grim at 408-377-7467.
SVDP/Outreach: Can you dedicate either two hours a week or two hours every other week between 10 am & 11:45 am to
helping those in need? We especially need bilingual volunteers (English & Spanish). We are also looking for a person to do
data entry either in the afternoon or on the weekend. If you are interested, stop by the Outreach Office, email your contact
information to svdp.stlucy@gmail.com or call and leave your contact information at 408-378-8086. One of our volunteers
will get back to you.
