Irradiation Bunker
Joint facility, operated by EN-EA and EP-DT
Unique place, combining a high energy muon
beam with a 14 TBq 137Cs gamma source
Designed for testing real size detectors, of up to
several m2, as well as a broad range of smaller
prototype detectors and electronic / optical
components.
100 m2 irradiation bunker with 2 independent
irradiation zones, separated attenuation

Deputy to SPS Physics Coordinator for the GIF with authority
to optimise the user schedule for all modes (beam, stand
alone…), within the constrains of the SPS schedule.

Intense maintenance period completed in March
Second cosmic trigger chamber installed
Improved temperature & humidity control inside bunker
+ temperature stabilisation for gas system
Improved central control system, new web page
Upstream & Downstream XTDV installed
Irradiation field markings
New gas detection system installation
Several new setups installed
Material access door finalised, installation in November

Improved situation inside the bunker area
Bunker by significantly reducing the air exchange
No remote control of GIF VAC, and zone of unit might
be inaccessible
Tend to protect against low temperature
Gas Area
Installation of manual heater needed
Floor is not air-tight (by design)
No temperature control inside tend
Requires manual CO2/ODH meter
Upgraded EHN1 VAC (operational ?)
We need to see if more expensive
solution is needed (e.g. barrack)

Improved archiving of all relevant data, publishing via DIP
Retrievable via web interface, improved notification
Calculation of irradiation dose based on the source status (on/off) and filter settings
Irradiator status and filter setting available via hardware signal.
Upgrade of the RADMON sensor readout to 12 sensors, including Berthold probes
Inclusion of GAS system values, currently published separately
Display in GIF control room, trend of significant values (PC finally arrived)
