SYNERGY
Ten years ago we started on a venture to create a side-by-side learning opportunity where
everyone is on an equal playing field and your position and title did not matter. At SYNERGY,
everyone belongs, and everyone is equal!
Welcome to the 10th annual SYNERGY Conference! Whether you are joining us remotely or in
person, we are glad you are here. The Ohio Alliance of Direct Support Professionals (OADSP), the
Ohio Self-Determination Association (OSDA), and Professionals, Advocates, Resources (PAR), are
joined this year by People First of Ohio to provide another unique conference experience like no
other in the Midwest. Throughout the conference you will have the opportunity to network with
people from all over Ohio where you can learn about innovative ideas, share stories and build
some new and lasting friendships.
SYNERGY is also a great place to get the most up-to-date information in the I/DD field. Our focus is
NOT about politics, but about energizing people and creating excitement about your life, your job,
and your ability to make change. We hope that you enjoy our sessions and they make a difference
in your life. Please share what you learned with others when you go back home in order for our
system and our communities to continue to thrive and improve.
In addition to our daily sessions, we invite you to relax, have fun, and participate in our evening
activities, silent auction, awards, vendors and everything SYNERGY! Finally, we want everyone to
feel welcome throughout the conference. SYNERGY is not just about who you are or what you do,
but how we collaborate to create positive change. Enjoy!

MEDIA SYNERGY
ATTENTION:
To make SYNERGY accessible to more people this year, we are working with
Platinum TDM, an Audio/Visual Production Company, to livestream and
record many parts of the event. The intent is to livestream and record our
speakers and presenters, but other attendees and audience members might
appear in the livestream or recording by chance.
This year, we are also using QR codes in the SYNERGY program. QR codes
like the one above can link to websites where you can find more information.
To use them, open the camera app on your cell phone and point it at the QR
code. You should then see a notification about the website the QR code is
linked to. Click that notification and you will be taken directly to the website.
So, look for the QR codes throughout this program to stay in the know!

career. 'Twitchy' is living proof that anyone who overcomes overwhelming
circumstance tends to develop extraordinary approaches to every day challenges.

A Community Without Barriers
Morgan Deavers, Emma Harvey, Lora Harvey, Robby Reed
The Academy for Leadership Abilities® is a leadership group focused on integrity,
personal growth, and empowering others to live the life they want to live. Pioneering
Possibilities® does not use the word advocacy. We are our community and the
change we want to see in the world. Participants will learn everything rises and falls
on leadership and building relationships. Our biggest secret, “a community without
barriers” will empower people to cultivate change in their own communities.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Interacting with Law Enforcement
Diane Dudziak, Jeff Dudziak, Nick Anderson
The presentation focuses on experience interacting with them as law enforcement
officers. Due to skyrocketing diagnosis rates and the challenges posed by Autism
Spectrum Disorder ("ASD"), people with ASD have up to seven times more contact
with law enforcement officers than others. These interactions can pose risk of harm
to both the person and the officer given the wide-ranging impact ASD has on the
one's ability to communicate, follow directions, and regulate emotions. This session
will focus on the experiences that Officer Dudziak, her brother Jeff, and his non-
verbal friend, Nick, have had with law enforcement and other professional persons.
