TAMPINES GRC KICKSTARTS THE 4-MONTH LONG ONE
COMMUNITY FIESTA ACROSS THE ISLAND WITH A MULTI-
RACIAL MID-AUTUMN CELEBRATION

The One Community Fiesta (OCF) 2017 will be launched at
Tampines GRC on Saturday, 23 September 2017. Minister Heng Swee Keat,
Adviser to Tampines GRC Grassroots Organisations (GROs), will join some
1,000 local Singaporeans and new immigrants as they participate in a showcase
of cultural activities, performances, sampling of ethnic dishes and making of
snowskin mooncakes in conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festive celebrations.

2 OCF, introduced in 2011, aims to bring people of different races and
background together to foster trust and mutual understanding for a more inclusive
and gracious community. Organised by local Integration and Naturalisation (IN)
Committees and GROs, OCF promotes awareness and better appreciation of
Singapore’s vibrant and diverse cultures, social norms and values through
interactive programmes. This year, a total of 16 GRC OCFs will be organised
island-wide from 23 September 2017 to early January 2018.

3 The Tampines GRC-OCF has received strong support from community
partners and Immigrant Associations. “Through projects like ‘Parade of Hearts
and Lights’, volunteers and participants, including new immigrants, will be able to
showcase their handmade lanterns at the event and lead the lantern festival
procession. It is through such platforms of cultural exchange that we are able to
appreciate each other’s cultures, deepen interactions and forge stronger
friendships with one another,” said Ms Cindy Ng, Organising Chairperson of
Tampines GRC-OCF 2017 and Leader of the Tampines Changkat IN Committee.
Launch of Comic Guide on “Desirable Social Norms for an Inclusive and
Harmonious Community”

4 To encourage positive and gracious behaviours, Minister Heng Swee
Keat and key representatives will officially launch the Comic Guide on “Desirable
Social Norms for an Inclusive and Harmonious Community”. The comic
guide, which was made available for preview on 21 September 2017, includes 30
social norms such as “Greet, Smile and Say Thank you”; “Respect Different
Cultures and Practices”; “Give Up Seats to Those in Need”; and “Be Responsible
on Social Media”. Some of these norms will also be exemplified in the interactive
Forum Theatre play “Living the Norm Way”, which will spur residents to reflect,
explore, role-play and discuss different courses of action when dealing with
issues that affect community living in close quarters.

5 Other Advisers to Tampines GRC GROs, namely Minister Masagos
Zulkifli, Mayor Desmond Choo, Parliamentary Secretary Baey Yam Keng, and Ms
Cheng Li Hui will also attend the event.
