THE EVENT
KEGELJAN YEAR 2.1.
SPRING 2021 – SPRING 2022
NAMUR
2021 will see the opening of the event “Kegeljan
2.1.”, which commemorates the centenary of the
death of painter Franz Kegeljan (1847-1921).
This Namur-born artist devoted his whole life to
the art of painting and drawing and produced an
abundance of views of his city at different periods.
The event’s focus will be the presentation of his
donation of more than 100 works to the municipal
collections, which include numerous monumen-
tal panoramas.
In the city...
The municipal collection of more than 100 Ke-
geljans, digitised in high definition courtesy of the
Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, will be accessible
to all via Internet and in particular as a virtual trail
in the city during the summer.
At Les Bateliers...
From the autumn, a major free exhibition at the
‘Musée des Arts décoratifs de Namur’ (Hotel de
Groesbeeck-de Croix) will take a new look at the
oeuvre, the man, the painter and his style.33 At the Citadel... Theatrical walks, where a guide playing the artist conveys his city, life, times, approach and oeuvre through the medium of emotive storytelling, will be presented by the Citadel’s Events Committee between spring and autumn. The trail will begin at the foot of the Citadel (Parliament) and end on the Sambre side, before redescending via the Green Ramp. At the Tour d’Anhaive... In the autumn, the Archaeological Society of Na- mur brings together its own Kegeljan collection at the Tower for an exhibition along two lines, histo- rical and cultural: views to illustrate the former museum hanging of Kegeljans at the Halle Al’ Chair and historical documentary views produced in order to retain a record of buildings lined up for demolition. Not only that... Other partners and artistic events are set to help enrich this year dedicated to Namur’s painter through the ages, each one casting him in its own light according to its specific focus. www.namur.be

Situated in an 18th-century mansion, well hidden behind the stucco of its
façade listed as part of Wallonia’s outstanding heritage, the hôtel de Gaiffier
d’Hestroy is home to treasures of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Among the exhibited masterpieces, the oldest of which date back to the
12th century, we find the Treasure of Oignies, one of Belgium’s 7 wonders,
renowned sculptures by the Maître de Waha and the paintings of Henri Bles,
