Assessment
• Assessment is an integral part of teaching and
learning in transition year. All assessment in
  transition year is school-based.
• In transition year numerous methods of
assessment are used including summative and
  formative assessments, written, practical, oral
  and aural work.
• In transition year, significant emphasis is placed
on project work and presentation. Students will
receive a report of work experience and they will
reflect on their own personal progress using
  their journal and portfolio.
• At Christmas, students receive a written report
detailing their progress and a credit sheet at the
  end of TY.
• An end of year celebration takes place in May.
Students are presented with their certificates.
Transition Year Interviews

 • All Transition Year students complete
   a Christmas and summer interview.
 • This gives them the opportunity to
   showcase their achievements, pieces
of work, and discuss where they
   would like to improve.
 • Students are awarded credits based
   on their interviews.
Transition Year Credit System
  • Achievement is recognised in TY using a
    credit system.
  • Students are awarded credits based on
    their efforts and participation throughout
    the year.
  • Teachers assign credits based on
    completion of work, participation and
    attendance.
  • Credits are also awarded for their Christmas
    and summer interviews, extra-curricular
    leadership, reflective practice and
    participation in the school musical.
  • At the end of the year students will be
    awarded either higher distinction,
    distinction, merit, achieved, partially

Transition Year Fees
• The usual fee for Transition Year is €400 for
activities plus the €100 administration fee.
• €200 plus the €100 admin fee is due by the end
  of September.
• As we do not know how many of our planned
activities will go ahead, we will not ask for any
further payment until first instalment has been
  fully accounted for.
• As we understand that this is a very uncertain
time for families, there will be an option to pay
in instalments for anyone who wishes to do so.
Please contact Veronica in the office if you
wish to discuss this at naascc@kwetb.ie.
• Please be aware that should an optional tour
go ahead in spring 2021 there will be an
  additional cost involved.
The TY Team
The TY team is comprised of Coordinator, class tutors
and subject teachers under the support and direction
of school senior management. The primary focus of
the team is to support the students to fully participate
in and benefit from the programme.
  • The TY Coordinator provides pastoral care to the
year group, deals with general issues as they arise,
deals with discipline and attendance, looks after
the implementation of the overall programme.
     • Class Tutors support individual class groups,
provide pastoral care and monitor daily attendance
                 and notes from parents.
  • Subject Teachers plan and deliver the individual
modules of the programme and assess the learning.

A Word on COVID
We will proceed with TY with the same spirit
and determination as we always have.
However we must accept that there will be
changes to the programme and a lot of
     positivity and creativity required.
At all times the safety of students and staff is
 paramount. While always maintaining this
view, we will work with our students to
ensure an enriching and invaluable transition
               year experience.
We are grateful for your support and
     understanding as we navigate the
        unchartered waters ahead.
