                                                                                                  From the global perspective of our customers, the handling terminals of Bremerhaven, Nordenham, Brake
                                                                                                  and the city of Bremen are more or less next to one another. We can quite justifiably speak of a “universal
                                                                                                  port” in the Unterweser region. This universal port’s areas of focus are:
                                                                                                    container handling in Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven,
                                                                                                    vehicle handling, primarily concentrated on Bremerhaven, and
                                                                                                    handling of a wide range of bulk materials in Brake and Nordenham.
                                                                                                      Alongside this, the handling of large quantities of piece goods (break bulk) in the required variety and

                                                                                                  quantity represents a noteworthy unique selling point. The terminal operators that specialise in these goods
                                                                                                  – primarily located in Brake and Bremen – are very well placed when compared with the Hamburg-Antwerp                                                                                                                          Sustainability
                                                                                                  range, and are leading in terms of performance, quality and flexibility. One weakness is continued low use of                                                                                                                             16
                                                                                                  these facilities by classic piece good shipping companies. These concentrate their journeys on the ARA ports

symposium for the first time from 19 to 21 October. “We are
delighted to have won out against several applicants and to be
hosting the symposium in Bremen this year,” says Michael
Skiba, Head of Marketing at bremenports. He says that the
