Food @ WAB
•   WAB’s food company is Chartwells (Compass Group is the parent
    company).
•   Students can bring their morning snack from home or purchase a snack from
    Chartwells.
•   Students can bring their lunch from home or purchase their lunch from
    Chartwells.
•   Microwaves are available to heat home lunches.
•   Home and restaurant lunch deliveries are not allowed on campus.
•   All students eat in the ES Atrium.
•   Lunchtime is staggered in the Elementary School.
     –   JG1 eat at approximately 11:30am
     –   SG1, G2 and G3 eat from 12:00pm to 12:20pm
     –   G4 and G5 eat from 12:25pm to 12:45pm.
     –   *times subject to change based on final timetable
•   MS/HS students are dismissed for lunch at the same time, but encouraged to
    stagger by 5 minutes per grade level.
•   WAB’s Food Policy can be found on the Parent Portal under the Food
    Services tab

Introduction to the
            Chartwells Team
Chartwells Management Team

•   Fred Baron (Unit Manager) in charge of WAB’s entire food
    service operation in all three school sections.

•   Edward Li (Head Chef) in charge of preparing menus,
    ordering, kitchen staff and kitchens.

•   William Yan (ES/HR) in charge of Elementary School service
    lines and onsite human resource manager.

•   Ben Potter (MSHS) in charge of Middle and High School service
    lines and whole school catering and events.
Chartwells Commitment
•   Working with WAB since August 2019
•   Chartwells work closely with WAB to ensure we achieve
    the fundamental responsibilities of both WAB and
    Chartwells on the following:
    –   safety
    –   hygiene
    –   food quality and consistency
    –   balanced diet for your child
•   We believe that in serving well presented wholesome
    food we are able to encourage all students to forge a
    healthy relationship with the food they eat from a
    young age.
Food Service Lines
•   Three separate kitchens (ES/MS/HS)
•   Multiple service stations and counters throughout
    WAB
•   Several lines that specialize in culinary trends from
    around the world:
    – Bibimbap: Korean line
    – Chefs Table: carvery and Western dishes
    – Eat Global: western and Asian dishes
    – Crave Café: serving ‘Grab and Go’ options such as
      sandwiches, Mexican wraps, chicken strips, coffee, cold drinks
    – Root & Seeds: vegetarian and plant based lines *We are
      passionate about the ability to serve filling and nutritional
      alternatives to our non-meat eating children.
Menus
•   Three school section menus are published every
    Thursday across several online platforms:
    – Compass mobile APP
    – WAB Parent Portal (under Food Services)
    – Yammer (for students and staff)

•   Chartwells menus and daily food tags include a
    detailed breakdown regarding the nutritional value
    of all their dishes, compiled by their resident
    nutritionist.
Smartcard Recharge
You can recharge your child’s smartcard:

1.   at a food counter in either the ES, MS or HS; using WeChat,
     AliPay or RMB

2.   by using the Compass mobile APP (WeChat Wallet)

3.   by bank wire transfer to the following account:
     –   Name:
     –   Bank Name and Branch: ICBC
     –   Account Number: 1001242719300441879
     –   Important: after the money has been transferred, email
         chartwells@wab.edu and iua.wab@compass-group.com.cn giving your
         child’s full name, grade level, student number and the amount of RMB
         that was deposited
Direct Payment
Direct Payment Methods

•   ES students can use their smartcard or facial
    recognition to pay for their food purchases.

•   MSHS students and adults can use their smartcard,
    WeChat or AliPay to pay for their food purchases.
Compass APP
•   Download the Compass.CN APP by scanning
    the following QR code.

•   Instructions on how to register with the APP can
    be found on the Parent Portal under the Food
    Services TAB.

•   The APP allows parents to:
      – remotely top up your child’s smartcard
         using WeChat Pay
      – view purchases made
      – view weekly menus
      – view current promotions or seasonal
         dishes (Chartwells regularly create menus
         for specific events, national celebrations)
      – order lunches ahead of time for pick-up
         (coming soon)
Health & Hygiene.
•   Regular documented cleaning/disinfecting of all
    kitchens, service lines and dining areas.
•   Our kitchens meet all Chinese FDA requirements.
•   Chartwells follows a ‘closed system’ for all our
    suppliers.
•   Chartwells employs a ‘bean to counter’ strategy of
    the supply chain.
•   Voluntary inspections regularly from both the school
    and a third party employed by Chartwells.
Chartwells Future
              Plans/Goals
•   Continually work a improving our food selection and
    quality on all service lines.
•   Work with the school to create classroom lessons for
    students regarding our expertise in food services (i.e.
    supply chain, nutrition, cooking and baking).
•   Work with ES/MS/HS student councils to drive down
    waste, reduce single service plastics and introduce
    more plant based alternatives to our menu.
•   Introduce a food order and pick-up service using our
    APP (of staff, MS and HS).
