Castello di Querceto 35ENVIROMENT
Comment
The 60 hectares of vineyards are divided into twenty-two different fields, everyone placed in the most indicated plot of land,
with the best microclima c characteris cs. The grapes are mostly red, only a li le percentage is composed of white grapes.
The aim of the cul va on is to obtain the best quality maintaining an ecologic produc on. For this reason very short pruning is
made, and grapes are thinned out if necessary. The prefera on is to use organic fer lizers instead of the chemical ones,
figh ng phytopathologies in a natural and integral way or, when needed, with very gentle phyto-medicines.
Harvest usually starts the 25th of September and goes on for one month. The grapes are s ll picked by hand and very carefully
selected.
The olive-groves are divided in different plots with a density of planta on of 400 trees per hectare. Olives are picked-up in
November and they are crushed in a modern frantoio within two or three days, producing the extra-virgin olive oil, another
precious Tuscany product.
Castello di Querceto 36Consump on of the company loca ons
Methane gas is not supplied to the region where Castello di Querceto is located. Therfore the company has to use LPG instead.
Two deposits on the grounds are refilled with LPG on a regular basis. The company required the expansion of building pipelines
for methane gas to the companys proper es but the local administra on is not willing to pay its share of the costs.

Castello di Querceto 40FINAL COMMENT Castello di Querceto does not pursue an explicit sustainability strategy. It is therefore not possible at this point in me to make a judgement on success. The Sustainability Report serves to take stock of the current corporate situa on with a special focus on sustainability. This report contains the most important aspects of governance, human resources, customers, suppliers, collec vity, economic performance and environment. The company voluntarily reports on non-monetary aspects and thus complies with the 2014/95/UE Direc ve. The disclosure of non-financial informa on can make a significant contribu on to a sustainable global economy by combining long-term profitability with social jus ce and environmental protec on. In order to achieve long-term sustainable development, it is necessary for the company to set itself targets for the respec ve indicators and to review these targets on a regular basis and to adjust its course of ac on.
METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
The report was wri en as part of the Erasmus+ Project Manager Integrated Repor ng (PMIR) Project. Planned was a 10
days visit at the companys headquarters but due to the pandemic all mee ngs and the informa on exchange took place
online.
The structure and graphic representa ons of the report were generated by a system. Distorted graphic representa ons
and incorrect structures are due to technical errors of the system. Only the contents were entered manually.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I am grateful that I could gain this experience within the PMIR Project at Castello di Querceto. I would like to thank the two
representa ves of the company, Stefania and Lia, very much who helped me a lot in giving me all informa ons needed to
write the report. Although the experience would have been different with a personal visit, I was able to gain many insights
into the company and felt very well looked a er.
My thanks also go to the team of the PMIR project that answered all my technical and comprehension ques ons
throughout the project and helped me to solve emerging challenges throughout the whole project.Short Sustainability Report 2019 - Castello di Querceto 30.07.2020 Sarah Alschner www.pmir.it
