Counties Horse Show
We would normal have a show programme at London Counties, but
due to Covid-19, like many other events, this as well as our Spring
Show were cancelled. So, for 2020 we are bringing you an end of
Facebook Page: Foreign Breed
year annual instead. We lost our Spring Show, which should have Festival Shows
been held on 3rd May and encompasses our Foreign Breed Festival
Show, as well as our flagship show and major Summer Show, London Find us on Twitter
Counties, which should have been on 19th July.
Conscious that our nominated charities would be just as hard hit as

Everyone seemed to be enjoying the extra opportunity to show their 27th June – Solstice Show
horses off, even if it was only by photos, so we continued with the 18th July – London Counties
Virtual events, having a fun show in June and then back to a (Summer Show)
showing show in July and finishing with a Foal & Youngstock Show in 12th September – Autumn
August. Rosette/Sashes Costs were deducted from these 3 (as I had Show
to make them from scratch). We were also able to run some fun
flash freebie online competitions on a regular basis within our
Facebook group - it was great to see everyone take part and join in.

APHS prefix comes from. At the time there was only one other
June 2020 Page 27 show in the whole of the UK for what we now call “Foreign
Social Media Page 33 Breeds”, which was in Birmingham. As I’m based in London and
London Counties Page 37 the south-east, this was quite a way for me to travel (this was in

the days when I used to hack to a show). At that point I had been
Autumn Show 2020 Page 66 involved with a local Riding Club and helped with their shows –
October Show 2020 Page 75 how hard would it be to organise a show myself I thought? And
People’s Champion 2020 Page 80 so the event was created. We started with a show of 15 classes

and now have almost 100 on offer at our summer event,
2021 Freebie Fridays Page 85
2020 Charities Page 87 drawing competitors from all over the UK and in some cases
from mainland Europe too. It was always my intention to bring
together mainstream English showing classes with Foreign Breed
classes – allowing BOTH to show as their breed dictates … and
from there we have our tag line of “bringing the best of both
worlds”. I’ve been involved in horse shows across the world –
America, South Africa, Sweden and Ireland, and hope we are
able to bring you the best bits from all of them under one roof.
OUR 2020 VIRTUAL SHOW Our flagship Summer Show, London Counties, has and will
SPONSORS always remain our main event, where everyone has the
opportunity to show their horses and ponies in their specific
Bailey & Friends classes, without penalty. We always make this a charity show,
(www.facebook.com/baileybambra) nominating classes from which all entry fees are donated to
Jen Baldwin-Murphy charity. When it comes to selecting which charity to support, we
Debbie Bell’s Creature Comforts ask our (Facebook) group members to nominate charities or
HAC-Therapies good causes and then put a poll vote up. As always we want our
(www.hac-therapies.co.uk) customer base to lead us.

Shortly after the 2012 Olympics we changed the name of the
Pam Steed & Murraybrook Stud show to “London Counties” as prior to that, although we had
James STU-ART Photography many “English” competitors, the name (American Pleasure
United Saddlebred Association-UK Horse Show) was not drawing them in as we hoped for from our
(www.american-saddlebred.co.uk) advertising. Classes are reviewed each year – obviously those
without support are dropped, but when it comes to new classes
to be added, again we look to our group members for what they
would like to see.
2019 saw the launch of two new APHS events – one in Kent (our
Spring Show, beginning of May) and the other at the beginning
of September at Pachesham (our Autumn Show). Both of these
are “Foreign Breed Festival” shows, although they all have open
breed classes. We also launched our own “Foreign Breed
National Finals”, for which horses had to qualify to take part in.
This was initially meant to be in house – people qualified at our
own events, but from the very beginning we were approached
by shows across the country asking to be qualifiers. So, from our
launch the Foreign Breed National Finals has been open to all
shows. Every year we will build on this – we have introduced a
3 APHS ANNUAL 2020Wild Card system and for 2020 we had a number of
County Shows that were also qualifiers – quite an VETERAN HORSE SOCIETY
For 2021 we are pleased to announce that
achievement after just a year. Sadly Covid-19 our Spring and Solstice Foreign Breed
meant most shows cancelled (including ourselves), Shows will be GOLD Ticket VHS Qualifiers &

4 APHS ANNUAL 2020APHS FOREIGN BREEDS FESTIVAL SPRING SHOW 2020
This was scheduled to take place on Sunday 3 rd May and was our first casualty of Covid-19, which we
initially rescheduled to the middle of June and then sadly had to cancel altogether. The venue is
booked for 2021 and the schedule is available to download and you can enter in the new year. We
had some fantastic horses forward in 2019 and it was looking like 2020 was going to be even bigger.
We hope you will all continue to support us in 2021 – the date of the show is Sunday 2nd May 2021.
(We aim to stay on the same weekend so that we can become a regular fixture in the showing
calendar). For those of you that won trophies here in 2019, please keep them safe and return them
in time for the 2021 show.
APHS APRIL PHOTO SHOW 2020
To make up for having to cancel our Spring Show and the likelihood at the time that we would have
to do the same with our Summer Show (London Counties) we decided to run a Virtual Photo Show to
help raise funds for one of our nominated Charities, Street-Paws. Usually we would have nominated
charity classes at London Counties, whereby all entry fees from those classes were donated to
charity, together with any funds raised from our programme sales. Conscious that this event may
not even take place, and aware that in these turbulent times our charities needed help more than
ever, we ran the April Photo Show. As it was our first Virtual Show we also offered rosettes to ALL
competitors in every single class, as a thank you for supporting us. I wasn’t sure how well this event
would be received, but was pleasantly surprised by the response- in fact I was busy making extra
rosettes despite having a big box from what we would have used in our Spring Show. All the rosettes
and sashes were donated - we just deducted the cost of postage and packing – 50% of all remaining
funds raised were donated, totally £300. A big thank you also to our judge, Vera Huddleston and to
Pam Steed of Murraybrook Stud who donated some MP Gloss Goodies for our Supreme Champion.

9 APHS ANNUAL 2020APHS MAY PHOTO SHOW 2020
During May we ran our second virtual show, this time to raise funds for our other nominated charity,
Therapeutic Equine Assisted Learning (TEAL). Run exactly as our April Show, 50% of all monies raised
(after deduction of P&P) were donated to charity. We decided to have a free class at this event, two
in fact, “Best Smile”, which we divided into horses smile and human smile and as before we kept our
Organisers Choice Award. We had over 450 photo entries for this event and it raised an amazing
£575 for our nominated charity.
A big thank you to our Judge, Chris Porter, and to
our sponsors for this show:
Debbie Bell’s Creature Comforts, who donated a
voucher for our Supreme Champion;
Bailey & Friends
(www.facebook.com/baileybambra/) who
donated a prize for the winner of the No Longer

and KC Saddlebreds who donated a bag of Hi-Fi

TEAL (Therapeutic Equine Assisted Learning) CIC was started in 2015 with the aim of providing a
therapeutic setting in which horses help our clients overcome problems they are facing in their
everyday lives.
This involves specially selected and trained horses and specialist staff, highly experienced in various
special educational needs, particularly in autism. Lucy is qualified and trained in therapeutic equine
assisted learning, counselling, mental health awareness, health and social care level 3, and first aid.
TEAL staff have over 30 combined experience working with children with SEN needs, and over 22
years working with horses, using natural horsemanship techniques.
This is all delivered in a natural, non-clinical environment. TEAL is based in
a beautiful countryside location in Kent. Being in natural environment's has
been scientifically proven to improve people's well-being. TEAL deliver
therapeutic assistance to a wide range of people, such as difficulties with
traditional schooling, special educational needs, poor literacy & numeracy
skills, learning difficulties, behavioural difficulties, communication and
speech, change established behaviour patterns, learn new skills,
confidence building, reducing anxiety, fine & Gross motor skills,
concentration, relaxation, Increase self-confidence, Raise self esteem,
Improve communication skills, Seek a different approach in dealing with
depression, people in care homes with Huntington's, dementia and other associated disorders.
All our horses are wheelchair trained so we can lead from wheelchairs around the beautiful farm and
still be groomed and painted even to those with restricted movement.
In 2017 we wrote our first educational course “basic stable care and horse management” the course
is tailored to our students needs with lots of practical work and over learning of skills, we also run a
level 2 “Grooms course” that gives all the students the skills needed to get into work in the equine
industry and offer our students volunteering roles with us on completion of the course. For some of
our students this will be the only qualification they will gain upon leaving education, for others this
will be the only form of education they receive due to failed placements, we are currently looking to
write a level 3 course.
TEAL horses are highly trained to work with our
clients, 2 of our horses are rescues and our most
recent rescue was SAM THE MAN in early 2019, Sam
was a starvation case and has fitted into our herd
really well and is a firm favourite with many of our
younger clients.
A few weeks ago Sam began to work with a 5 year old
who has autism and is/ was non-verbal.
During the first session as always we began grooming
to affirm the friendship the clients build with the
horses, the young boy was a little unsure and had a
very short attention span, on our first walk out he
refused to hold the lead rope and was more
interested in jumping in the puddles during our walk, fast forward 5 weeks and now he leads Sam
around the farm, over trotting poles in the sand school and we are all greeted verbally including the
25 APHS ANNUAL 2020ever so sweet sound of “ I love you Sam”, in a very short space of time the amazing power of horses
has given this young boy his voice, a love for Sam and better attention to the task at hand.
Another of our students came to us for 2 weeks work experience in 2015 with the only knowledge of
horses to be a few RDA lessons, she has been with us ever since, Molly has completed both of our
courses, has worked on 2 other livery yards, still comes to us twice a week to volunteer.
Here is a testimonial from some of our residents at a care home we work with, our horses have also
visited the home and gone into the rooms of those that are bed bound.
The residents of Birling House, enjoy attending TEAL!
A typical time spent with TEAL........
As we drive around the corner we can hear Ben neighing his greeting. The residents then get excited
knowing that they have arrived. The residents all have huge smiles, knowing that Pudding is going to
come out and say hello, if the weather is nice they enjoy taking her for a walk in the country, all being
the ones that can lead her first. Then it is time to go back to the stables for grooming and painting
Jigsaw, she is so good that sometimes she likes to rest her head on Marys neck to sleep! All the while
Ben is trying to see around the corner and wondering why we haven't been to say hello yet. Soon it
is time to go into the stables to have a scratch and a cuddle with Breeze and Ben, before we sadly
have to leave. All of the residents of Birling house are excited and the horses are a calming influence
on the residents who all enjoy talking to the horses, grooming and petting them, all of the horses are
so gentle even the mighty Big Ben, who just wants a scratch of the nose! They enjoy giving them
carrots and Mary enjoyed going for a ride when Jigsaw pulled her along in her wheelchair, laughing
so hard that she didn't want to let go of the carrot.
It is so refreshing and makes our job worthwhile seeing Lucy and Lisa and the horses interacting with
the residents, catching up and cuddling the horses we just do not want to leave and look forward to
the next visit. It is an amazing place to visit for the residents, the staff, the horses and Lucy and Lisa
who do an amazing job. This is not just a place to visit, TEAL is a place for the residents to visit their
friends, because that is what Lucy, Lisa and the horses have become our favourite friends.
Over that last 2 years the money that has been raised by APHS shows has helped a number of our
clients in providing full or part sessions and also funding part courses, without funding such as this
TEAL could not be able to help as many clients as we do, from all of us at TEAL we would like to say a
massive thank-you for your support.
26 APHS ANNUAL 2020APHS JUNE PHOTO SHOW 2020
June, we decided to have some fun, so there were no serious
showing classes for our photo show. We kept our popular
organisers choice award, but instead of a sash we donated a
Le Mieux headcollar for the winner. In addition, James STU-
ART Photography donated a free edit to the winner of the
Best Head Shot class. Debbie’s Creature Comforts sponsored
a voucher again, this time for the winner of the Water Babies
class. Jen Baldwin-Murphy sponsored an A4 equine pencil
drawing for the winner of the Best Buddies class. We also
went over-board on our winners rosettes and blinged them
up in a blue and white NHS theme, with colour co-ordinated
sashes too. A big thank you to Ann Revell, for judging these
classes for us. Although we had to deduct our costs for the rosettes and sashes from the next 3
virtual show (June, July and August), we decided that we were going to continue with donating 50%
of all profits to our 2020 nominated charities – for June we were able to donate £250 to charity.

APHS SOCIAL MEDIA COMPETITIONS
In between the photo shows we had some fun competitions on the group
page. First up was “Guess the number in the bag” (it was 50 by the way), which
was won by Alyce Clark.
We made the next competition slightly harder (I
thought), in that you had to answer 3 questions about
APHS. Several people got that one correct, the first
winning one to do so was Gaynor Woodacre (with her
daughters’ horse, Murphy, shown here modelling their
winning prize).
Then we did a simple share the post competition to promote our May Photo Show and entered
everyone that did that into a random generator number. Lucky winner for that was Virginia Draper.
In between all this, during May, we also reached our 1,000 member of the
group, Julian Burke, who received a complimentary frillie (see photo
right); as well as a sash to the group member who invited them, Gabrielle
Deed.
Whilst we were waiting
for the results to come
out for the May Show, we
had an “Epic Fails”
competition on the
group. Winner of that
was Grace McHugh (see
photo left of her entry for
the competition).
We kick started June with a random horse question and the winner of that was
Manda King and Christina Rideout. Everyone on the group voted for a rosette
prize, so we duly obliged.
33 APHS ANNUAL 2020July Freebie Friday competitions started early, with an Independence Rosette,
open to all our group members who had USA breeds (pure or partbred). This
was won by Ann Blackaby and her rainbow Saddlebred Roundhill’s Hawaiian
Harvest.
Another July Freebie Friday competition
was a “Caption This” – members were
invited to add a photo with a caption.
This was won by Lyndsay Nicholson.
August saw a “Moody/Mad Mares” and “Cheekie Chappies”
as our Freebie Friday competitions. These were won by
Rachel Bishop (left) and Maddy Blythe (below) respectively.
34 APHS ANNUAL 2020Survivors Day (October 2020) – this was for everyone who lives with, or who has
survived a life threatening or life changing disease/condition. We had lots of
nominations, both of people and horses – all winners in my eyes, but there was
only one rosette, so Laura Shurgold was selected – she nominated both herself and
her horse Ventura for this award: Laura had chronic kidney failure and underwent a
kidney
transplant, with
her horse
helping get
through this
when she nearly
lost him to colic. After a double
surgery to save him they are both
fighting to tell the tale.
Warmblood Day (October 2020) – for
all Warmbloods. Again, this had lots
of lovely entries and was won by
Sophie Chatwin & Trixie. Their photo
was submitted unknown to them by
their sister Gabrielle, which was really
nice. A big thank you to Suzie Marks
for judging this for us.
Austria Day (23rd October 2020) –
this was a competition for all our
Haflinger owners in the group. We
had 41 entries and the winner was
Joanne Collcut & Ornella, kindly
judged for us by Manda King.
35 APHS ANNUAL 2020Golega Day (6th November 2020) –
for all our Lusitano owners in the
group. For this we invited
international photographer Jeanne
Shepherd (Genie Images) to judge
for us. Based in America, Jeanne has
travelled the world photographing
horses, from the Steppes of
Mongolia and including the
International Andalusian Lusitano
Horse Association National
Championships in America.
Our winning entry was Lisa Evans-Hill (see above right).
Two weeks later (20th November)
we had SICAB Day for all PRE
owners in the group. Kindly judged
by Lorraine Rowntree, this was won
by Pete Saunders FER Bravo (see
photo right).
For the last Friday in November
we had Scottish Day for all
Scottish Breed owners in the
group (Eriskay, Shetlands,
Highlands). This was won by
Lexie Cullingham and her
Shetland Ulverscroft Northern
Galaxy (see photo, courtesy
LRG Photography).
36 APHS ANNUAL 202013th December saw 4 competitions close: our Freebie Friday Winter’s Day, Freebie
Friday Christmas Themed, our Random Number Generator for not one but two
embroidered APHS clothing and lastly the final count for our People’s Champion.
Our Winter’s Day, Winter Wonderland, was kindly judged my Manda King and the
winning photo was submitted by Gabrielle Deed (see below left). For our Christmas
Theme, this was judged by Rhian Powell, and the winning photo selected was
submitted by Lynn Clinkard (see below right).
Our embroidered clothing saw 2 winners, Penny Caswell and Amelia Ingham – both will receive
APHS logo embroidered heavyweight gillets. Last year we had a freebie competition for a winter
coat, but we thought we would do gillets this year as then we could offer two prizes instead of just
one.
APHS LONDON COUNTIES SHOW 2020
Another casualty of Covid-19, we decided we couldn’t run our flagship summer show in the
circumstances. All the extra special bling awards, sashes and prizes we had for this have been stored
safely and they will be available for the 2021 show (18th July, 2021). Obviously we had incurred costs
in the preparation of this event, most of which we couldn’t recover; but we plan on making the 2021
event as big as ever and hope you will all support us next year, whether as an exhibitor, a spectator
or a sponsor. Many of our sponsors generously allowed their sponsorship paid & pledged to roll over
for 2021, some of the deposits for services were also carried over to 2021 too, helping to defer the
monies already spent in 2020; so a big thank you to all of you that share our vision and have allowed
this to happen.
We also used the time to scrutinise the schedule, amend some of the classes and hopefully make it
more appealing to you all for next year. I have been brutal for 2021 – if the classes haven’t been
supported over the past 2 or 3 years then I can’t offer 5 – 7 classes in that section. The classes are
still there, but we need to have the “bodies” on the ground first. The flip side of this means we can
introduce some new classes (as we are always being requested to do) and to open up some of our
more popular classes as well. As always, this show is a charity event. In the past we have had
nominated classes within the schedule which are designated “charity classes”; whereby all entry fees
raised in these classes are donated to our charities – we will either continue with this for next year
or we will donate 50% of our profits from the whole event, as we have done with our Virtual shows.
The next few pages are a step back to 2019 to look at some of our Champions, our 2021 sponsors
and also our historic winners.

45 APHS ANNUAL 2020APHS JULY PHOTO SHOW 2020
July we went back to a showing format for
our virtual show, with a selection of fun
classes, in hand and ridden classes, 3 group
championships and a supreme. Again, we
had a free class for everyone – this time
the topic was “favourite APHS moment”,
done as a thank you to everyone for
supporting us over the years. Our bling
awards this time, went to the Best Junior
(exhibitor) in 3 nominated classes, Best
Body Score in the 2 amateur owned,
trained and shown classes and Best 2020
Foal in the Open Youngstock class. We also had a special bling award for the winner of the concours
class on offer as well. We had plans to include the Best Body Score at our “live” events this year –
judged by a Vet in set classes (& totally independent of the judged classes). These needed to be kept
we felt, even for our Virtual Shows – a big thank you to Diane Stark for judging these for us.
Again, 50% of profits from this show was donated to our nominated charities, this time you raised
£300 for charity.
A big thank you to our Judge, Lorraine Rowntree, and to our sponsors for this show:
• HAC-Therapies (www.hac-therapies.co.uk), who sponsored the Jumping class, with a bling
rosette for the winner and prize money to the top three - £10 for the winner, £6 for the
second place and £4 for the third place in the class. All the winners were very generous and
donated their winnings to our charities – so a big thank you.
• Debbie Bell’s Creature Comforts, who donated a voucher for our Supreme Champion.

APHS AUGUST PHOTO SHOW 2020
This was our final Virtual Show and was for
Foals and Youngstock, open to all horses and
ponies. Although we only had 5 classes, all the
rosettes were championship size and we had
lots of bling additional awards on offer. There
were an amazing 144 baby photos entered –
wow!
As this was our last online show, we also
decided to offer £100 from our show fund as
prize money in the 2020 foal class. £25 for the
winner, £25 for the highest placed (registered)
Foreign Breed, £25 for the highest placed
(registered) Mountain & Moorland and £25 for the Organisers Choice. 50% of profits from this show
was donated to our nominated charities, this time you raised £200 for charity. We also had £50 of
the prize money generously donated back for the charity pot, enabling us to donate even more.
Winning both the First place prize fund and the foreign breed prize fund was Veronika Biedai’s Nika
Fan Equilibrium V.B. Winner of the highest placed M&M and the Organisers Choice prize fund was
Debbie Bell’s Moorfarm China Doll.
62 APHS ANNUAL 2020A big thank you to our Judge, Kay-Michelle Smith, and also to our sponsors for this show:
• KC Saddlebreds who sponsored bling awards for the Best Chestnut Filly in all classes.
• United Saddlebred Association who sponsored bling Awards for the Best Saddlebred in all 5
classes.
• Meeks Park PRE-Fusion Stud who sponsored bling Awards for the Best PRE/Fusion in all 5
classes.
We also put up Best Foreign Breed bling awards in all 5 classes and in the 3 year old class bling
awards for the Best Body Score (kindly judged by Di Stark), Best Filly and Best Gelding awards.

APHS OPEN AUTUMN SHOW &
APHS - FOREIGN BREED SHOWING NATIONAL FINALS 2020:
6th September
As social distancing was slowly relaxed, outdoor
venues were allowed to be used, and then
indoor sporting venues, we decided to go ahead
with our Autumn Show & Foreign Breed
National Finals in September. The event was
Covid risk assessed and various measures put in
place to help reduce the risks for everyone. One
of the main ones was limiting the amount of
people at the venue, and to do this we used an
online advance booking system only (so no
entries on the day), capping entries to 10 per class. We had a mad flurry of entries in the early hours
of the morning on the 17th July (when we opened the entries) and some classes filled up pretty
quickly (gave me lots to think about when preparing next year’s schedules). Part of our risk
assessment and subsequent safety measures included providing individual hand sanitiser to each
exhibitor. We had additional sanitisers at strategic places as well as cleaning communal areas on a
regular basis throughout the day. All plans were going well, and then I managed to break 2 toes 5
days before the event – let’s just say I was not especially looking forward to all the walking I knew I
was going to have to do over that weekend. As it turned out, the pre-entry system was a blessing in
disguise – there was no mad rush at the Secretary’s desk in the morning, it was calm and relaxed and
certainly different from how the big summer show is. Maybe this is the way forward? Capping the
classes also had benefits too. It meant we knew exactly how many horses were going to be in
attendance (114) – this meant we could make a decision to present rosettes to everyone, in every
class, regardless of where they placed; it meant the caterers could plan how much to buy so there
was less waste and we could also have a more accurate time schedule. Yes there were a few on the
day changes – some people couldn’t make it on the day after all, some were running late, some
classes rang over slightly, but where-ever possible we allowed people to switch classes, so hopefully
everyone was happy.
A big thank you to our judges for this event – Sally Chamberlain, Vera
Huddleston, Charlotte Langston & Brian Dancer and our Stewards & Ground
Crew Stacey Jarvis, Connor Jarvis, Manda King and Ann Revell.
Another big thank you to Justine Monaghan, for donating a bling award for
the Best PRE in the PRE In Hand and the PRE/Lusitano ridden classes at this
event, and also to Emma & Tim Taylor for sponsoring the “Rchi (Perpetual
Challenge) Trophy” for the Ridden Foreign Breed National Championship.
To make up for losing our Summer Show, we had an Open Breed ring to cater
for all our non-foreign breed supporters. During lockdown I was fortunate
enough to win two special prizes, which I donated to this ring. One was a bling
browband, which was donated to the Open Breed In Hand Champion and the other was a £250
voucher for a hand-made concours outfit by S&P Elegance, which I donated to the Concours
Champion. We also purchased vouchers for the other 2 championships for a bespoke stable name
plates, so that all our champions went home with something. In addition we also had two lovely rugs
for our Foreign Breed National In Hand and Ridden Champions. We had to wait till after the event to
purchase these (as we didn’t know in advance what sizes were going to be needed), but hopefully
this was another keepsake the Champions could take away with them.
66 APHS ANNUAL 2020Usually competitors spend all year qualifying for our Finals, but this year we had to change things
and run them like a normal show championship, with just winners from the classes on the day being
eligible to take part. We still saw some impressive horses forward and it made a tough call for the
judges to decide who to pin with the champion foreign breed in hand and ridden titles. The In Hand
title went to the magnificently flamboyant PRE stallion Magnolia VI, owned & shown by Simon
Wright, with Antony Burk’s Tiger Mazarti taking the Reserve spot. In the Ridden championships, like
last year we had a “long distance” winner, with Anna Matthews’ Arabian HS Bellatrix taking the
Champion title and Magnolio VI taking the Reserve spot. Anna travelled all the way down from
Warwickshire to Surrey on the day for the show, so it was a worthwhile trip for her. These results are
an almost copy of our 2019 results, where our In Hand Reserve was also our Ridden Champion. This
year, 2020, we have our In Hand Champion also taking the Ridden Reserve spot too.
The Foreign Breed Veteran classes were VHS Gold Ticket qualifiers, with the top two from these
classes gaining direct qualifiers to the VHS Finals in October and the Open Veteran classes VHS Area
qualifiers, where the top four from these two classes gain their qualification for the next step, the
Regionals. The ridden Foreign Breed Veteran Gold Ticket winner, Virginia Draper, also went on to
take the Reserve Foreign Breed Championship spot at the VHS Championships 2nd – 4th October as
well. Twin Photographic were in attendance at our event and our first aid suppliers were Obs
Medics.
We had a huge support in the Open Breed rings as well – so much so that we needed to call in an
additional judge so that we could split some of the classes. Two coloureds stood champion in the
Open Breed In Hand Championship Antony Burk’s Tiger Mazarati was our Champion & Tammy
Burge’s Moorfarm Bandsman was our Reserve. Antony had brought 3 horses to the show and
between them they won 7 classes. Debbie Bell’s Moorfarm Rosheen also had a good day across 3
judges – a great testament to the breeding being undertaken by Moorfarm Stud.
Our Junior competitors were also on a roll, Lola Cullingham’s Ryehall Viscountess took the Second
Reserve spot in the Open Breed In Hand Championships and not to be outdone her elder sister Lexi
Cullingham, with Menai Swing Along, took the Open Breed Ridden Championship. As both girls were
due back at school the next day I think it is safe to say they had a great end to the end of their
summer holidays and home schooling. Our Reserve in the Open Breeds Ridden Championship was
Alys Matravers’ Fancy Pants with Hope Gimson’s The Boss’ Daughter taking Second Reserve.
Our Concours Championship saw foreign breeds take the top 3 spots. Virginia Draper’s PRE Fusion
Diamante Del Rey took Champion with a stunning red and black costume with a definite Spanish
theme to it. Reserve was Laura Leredde’s Tango Gal, another PRE and then in Second Reserve was
Michelle Clark’s Percheron, Star.
It was great to have the time to wander (or hobble in my case) around the showground and see the
horses – many of which I recognised from the photo competitions, some I recognised from previous
years competitions and some were completely new faces. I think everyone was just glad to get out
to an event – even the weather was generous to us, with sunshine and mild temperatures. All our
showing rings were in the grass rings this time, with the rubber ring dedicated as an additional warm
up area to give people more space to socially distance and spread out.
Hopefully we will see everyone back next year – this will remain an Open Breed Show in 2021 –
schedules (once finalised) can be found on our website www.aphs.org.uk not only for this event but
for the other events we run during the year.
