                          Camrose County
Camrose County welcomes you! Please enjoy your visit to our slice
of rural Alberta. Here you will find lakes, river valleys, and quiet
roads through rolling hills and grain fields. Distinctive hamlets and
villages give you a taste of the “back to the basics” pace of small
town life. Enjoy the brilliant stars and northern lights, awe-inspiring
thunder storms and crisp winter days. Watch closely as you drive
through Camrose County and you will most likely see some of our
resident wildlife; moose, deer, coyotes, snowy owls and bald eagles.

Our communities are friendly, and each have unique opportunities to enjoy. You can
find golf courses, fishing ponds, model airports, playgrounds and museums to explore.
Shop for that special item at a cozy tea house, or rural store.

Summer weekends are full of ball tournaments, camping, ice cream cones at the lake,
parades and community breakfasts. Stay at a Bed and Breakfast, local hotel or in one of
many campgrounds.

Make plans to attend Prairie Fun Days and you will get to see much of what the County
offers in either a self-driving tour or riding in style on our Coach Bus. Local food is
available, and the chance to see the history of the region alongside the current
technologically advanced world of modern farming.

Thank you for taking time to visit. Come once and you will come again!

a peek inside a nest!
The purple martin gurus will provide new
purple martin landlords and landlords-to-be
with all of the information they need to attract
and care for their avian friends. Experienced
birders and landlords share the tips and tricks
that contribute to their success.
Purple Martin females lay an average of 5 pure white eggs, one egg early
each morning for several successive days, then incubation begins and
lasts for 14-16 days. Purple Martins now need human intervention to
provide safe nesting sites, as their preferred natural choices of holes
in dead standing trees are no longer easily available. Camrose citizens
have significantly increased the number of these beautiful social birds
to nest in our community. Join us at the Purple Martin Festival on June
16 to learn how you can help. www.tourismcamrose.com.

Presented by the Battle River Quilters' Guild June 22-23,
2018. The guild members are not only a group of
talented quilters; they are a group of friends that happen
to enjoy a similar interest in quilting. They meet for a
variety of reasons, one of which is to assemble quilt tops
for needy organizations within the community.
Workshops are held on a regular basis to assemble
Comfort Quilts, which are then donated.

The historical downtown district of Camrose is a place that you don't just visit, you
experience it. Downtown Camrose has done a wonderful job of restoring historic
commercial buildings and period houses. While these buildings now have new duties,
their original use is not forgotten. They have exterior plaques that tell of their part in the
history of downtown.
These buildings are now being used to house unique boutiques and specialty retailers
that offer everything from clothing stores for all ages, to home décor, furniture (old and
new), specialty dining, craft stores and much more.
You can relax and take your time while shopping because you don't have to worry about
parking, it is all free here. There is a variety of specialty coffee shops and cafes where you
can get together with friends to enjoy great food and excellent, friendly service.
There are a lot of enjoyable events that take place in downtown Camrose. The Chamber of
Commerce Jaywalkers Jamboree in June is a major regional event with rides and vendors
throughout the downtown. A downtown market begins the second Thursday of June and
runs until September. The Camrose Show and Shine; the Scarecrow Festival; and
Midnight Madness on the last Friday in November, are a small sample of the good times
to be had.
You can go to www.downtowncamrose.com to find out about upcoming events and all
sorts of interesting information about downtown Camrose.
Downtown Camrose is proud to be the home of the Bailey Theatre, the oldest theatre in
Alberta. The theatre has been renovated into a state of the art performing arts facility.

buildings that have been restored. The friendly service of the business people make you
feel like you are in your own home town. Downtown Camrose is "alive at the centre" and is

Things to do in the
County!
Nature Conservation Centre
In the summer of 2010, Camrose
County completed the reclamation
of a decommissioned gravel pit and
was innovative and forward thinking
by incorporating numerous
amenities to provide wildlife habitat
and a community attraction.
Camrose County hopes the Nature
Conservation Centre will set the
benchmark for all gravel pit
reclamations as they believe this project epitomizes what environmentally friendly and
beautiful results can emerge from such humble beginnings. After yielding approximately
500,000 cubic metres of gravel, this 37-acre now boasts a nature conservation centre,
complete with stocked rainbow trout, children's playground and sand pit, walking trails,
migrating and songs birds of the seasons, picnic areas and day camping sites. A great
place to get away from the busy-ness of life and listen to the silence of nature. Definitely an
unsung jewel in the prairies! No reservation needed. Travel 14.5 km east of Camrose on Hwy
13, then south 8.5 km on Green Grove Road (Rg Rd 185). www.county.camrose.ab.ca
