MISSION: The Manchester Parks & Recreation Department strives to offer programs and services that
     help to enhance quality of life through parks and exceptional recreation opportunities. We provide
opportunities for all residents to live, grow and develop into healthy, contributing members of our community.
                        Whatever your age, ability or interest we have something for you!
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
• All programs are offered on a “first come – first served” basis via online registration through our website
  www.mbtsrec.com, mail in registration or in person at the Parks & Recreation office.
• All programs operate on a self-supporting basis. The Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right
  to cancel classes that do not support themselves.
• Checks should be made payable to: MANCHESTER PARKS & RECREATION. Registrations should be
  mailed to: Manchester Parks & Recreation, 10 Central Street, Manchester, MA 01944, or dropped off in
  Room #9 at Town Hall. You can also register for programs online using your checking account (lowest
  cost) or with a credit or debit card at www.mbtsrec.com
• There is a $25.00 service fee for all returned checks.
• Non-residents are allowed to sign up for any Manchester Recreation Department program.
• If schools are closed due to inclement weather, then all recreation programs for that day are also
  cancelled. On weekends or in the summer months, if the weather is questionable, please call the Parks &
  Recreation Department Weather Information/Cancellation Line at 978-525-6429 and the status of the
  activity will be posted. Generally, the status of the program will be posted 1 hour prior to the start of the
  program. Also, please check the Facebook pages for up to date information.
• Confirmation of your program will NOT be made. You will only be notified if the class is full or is cancelled
  due to low enrollment. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend your program at the first meeting.
• Our online registration system allows you to create a family account. By creating a family account, you will
  only have to fill out your family information one time. Then for all future registrations you would simply
  select the appropriate family members name from the drop down menu.
• The second benefit of creating your own family account is that you have the ability to login to your account
  and see what programs you are currently registered for and if you have any outstanding balances or have
  a credit on file with the Department.

SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE:
A confidential application can be made to the Director of Parks & Recreation and if it is determined that a
hardship exists, the applicant may be granted a reduction in fee. All programs operate on a self-supporting
basis, which limits the amount of available aid that we can provide, financial assistance is only available for
programs run directly by Parks & Recreation Department staff such as Hornets After School Program,
Winter Basketball, Tennis Lessons & Summer Playground. Financial assistance is not available for programs
where we hire contractors to run the program, unless it is approved by the instructor.

PHOTO & VIDEO POLICY:
The Manchester Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to photograph facility, activity and
program participants at any and all department sponsored events for potential future use. All photos will
remain the property of the Manchester Parks & Recreation Department and may be used in future program
guides, brochures, pamphlets news releases and Facebook for promotional purposes or in recognition of
department sponsored events. If you do not wish to have your picture taken, please notify a member of the
staff prior to the event.

The Parks & Recreation Committee serves as the sole advisory group to the Board of Selectmen on matters
related to Parks & Recreation programs, services, and facilities. This Committee meets on a monthly basis. If

The Tuck’s Point Chowder House is an open air picnic pavilion that is available for rent. It can seat a
maximum of 125 people and is used for picnics, reunions, birthday parties, etc. There are no cooking facilities
available. The Rotunda is a gathering spot used for short wedding ceremonies, prom pictures, etc. and is
open to the public. A reservation form and full payment is required to reserve the chowder house. All caterer
information must be received in full 30 days before the scheduled date, or the date may be forfeited.

Crowell Chapel is a small gothic looking stone structure located at 4 Rosedale Avenue in Manchester,
Massachusetts. Commissioned to be built by Susan Crowell in memory of her brother Benjamin Franklin
Crowell in 1903, the chapel is one of Manchester’s hidden jewels. The chapel is available to rent on a first
come first served basis and any interested party should contact Manchester Parks & Recreation at
978-526-2019. Reservation forms are also available online at:
www.manchester.ma.us/recreation.
The chapel capacity is 140 people.

Multi Sports with Viking Sports (Ages 3-5)- For our Multi-Sports Camps we introduce a
variety of sports games and activities including dodgeball, capture the flag, tag, soccer, and floor hockey.
Our games are simple to learn and really fun to play. We like to introduce kids to games that they in turn can
bring home and play with their friends. This approach allows kids to focus more on playing and having fun
versus listening to a laundry list of rules and watching elaborate set ups. All Viking Sports Camps conclude
with our famous Tournament Day. It is a camp-wide Olympics that has the children playing all of the sports
and games they played that week and concludes with a relay race and trophy ceremony.

Summer Tennis Lesson’s - Rookie Rackets (Ages 4-6)-This introductory experience with
tennis is designed to be fun and engaging. These 45-minute classes are age appropriate for 4- 6 year old's
and utilize tennis-focused games and drills designed to enhance balance and develop coordination. A tennis
racket will be provided to those who don’t have one. Monday-Thursday for 2 weeks! We will offer 3 , 2 week
sessions. We ask for this age a parent or guardian stays during practice.

Soccer powered by the New England Revolution & Viking Sports (Ages 3-5)-
Viking’s soccer clinics are powered by the New England Revolution! Working with the Revs Viking
Sports has created a soccer curriculum that blends our brand of fun and the Revolution’s skill devel-
opment expertise. During the season we teach tomorrow’s emerging stars age appropriate skills
that develop dribbling passing receiving and shooting. Your child’s early exposure to the sport
should give them an edge up on the competition. All players receive a Viking Sports T-shirt!

Safe Sitter with American Safety and Health Institute First Aid and CPR-Safe Sit-
ter with American Safety & Health Institute is for boys and girls in grades 6-8. This course is
 designed to prepare students in grades to be safe when they are home alone watching younger
siblings or babysitting. The instructor led class is filled with fun games and role playing exercises.
Students will learn safety skills, child care skills, First Aid and rescue skills, life and business
skills. Students receive First Aid and CPR certification. Due to high demand, this course will be
offered twice.

Fitness Inspired Training Presents- Train Like an Athlete (Grades 9-12) Train like
an Athlete is a 4 week sports conditioning program developed for high school athletes who are look-
ing to find new ways to reduce injury, improve cardio endurance, strength agility and core. This pro-
gram will meet at Masconomo park from on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 6th-July 29th from 8am-

Butts and Bellies @ Singing Beach with the FIT HOUSE-Save your spot !! Butts and
Bellies is hitting the beach this summer June 7-July 30, 2021. This class is designed to strengthen
and develop your large muscle groups in an effort to help you lose fat. As your body changes so will
your workouts!! Toning and sculpting will be added to the mix with a focus on abs, glutes and arms .

Summer Chill & Chisel Yoga on Singing Beach- Spend your mornings with instructor
Mary Hart. Morning Practice- Based upon the principles of Hot Power Yoga, this class is primarily
standing poses designed to increase strength, concentration and balance. Expect to hold the poses
for 30-60 seconds while breathing deeply and connecting to the beauty of the sand, surf and sun.
You will sweat, detox and purify your body, mind and spirit. This deeply relaxing class includes
Reiki, Aromathery and Meditation called “Consciousness at Rest”. Bring a large towel as well as wa-
ter, an eye pillow or sunglasses and sunscreen. Rain days will take place at Tuck’s Point Chowder
House. Check your email if you are unsure! Please bring sneakers for Tuck’s Point as the flooring is
not completely smooth.

Friday Night Yoga @ Singing Beach- with Iron Crow Yoga- Make time for YOU on Friday nights
during the summer with Mary Hart and her team. The class includes Reiki, Aromatherapy for Medita-
tion and Relaxing Sunset practice followed by Crystal Sound Bowls for Healing. The class will be
joined by local musicians such as Janice Fullman. Every Friday on the beach will be an experience.
No mats, just beach blankets and an extra towel and yoga strap. New students should bring blocks if

Adult Beginner Tennis-The Manchester Parks and Recreation will once again be offering beginner
tennis lessons this summer for adults. The class is geared towards new tennis players and lessons will be
based upon participants. This class meets one time per week for 5 weeks. Tennis is a mental game, requiring
players to think quickly and is a great work out. Do you want to learn how to play tennis in a non judgey envi-
ronment? Then this is the class for you!

Summer Pick up Field Hockey League (Ages 14- up)-Hustle, hit and never quit with
Coach Jenny Beardsley! This weekly program will feature pick-up scrimmage style games providing
current and past players the opportunity to keep their skills fresh and get some needed exercise on
a beautiful turf field in a fun and active atmosphere. Each participant must wear eye & mouth protec-
tion as well as shin guards, please bring a stick. Who can play? Any player, 14+ from any town
(must have at least two-years’ experience).

Jr. Hornet's Filed Hockey Clinic (Ages 8-14)- Join Coach Jenny Beardsley on the field.
Hustle, hit and never quit! The League aims to provide a fun, affordable field hockey experience re-
gardless of skill level specifically directed towards the child that has never played or has little experi-
ence. Our captains and coaches have designed a fun and active skills based program that introduc-
es athletes to the game and provides additional skill development and field time for those who al-
ready play the game. We will have lots of fun with costumes, wild hair days, and more! Who can
join? Any beginner or novice player ages 8-14 from any town. AND for those players with at least
two years of experience, you can also register for the HORNETS SUMMER PICK-UP FIELD
HOCKEY LEAGUE at a discounted rate when you do both!

Meet your coach:
Coach Jenny Beardsley, a Manchester- Essex Alumni, played field hockey for the Hornets for four
years, and went on to play Division II field hockey for Assumption University in Worcester, MA. Jen-
ny will introduce skills, drills, and conditioning to all players and participants. Field hockey is about
community, friendship and leadership. Jenny is attending Endicott College and studying Sport Lead-
ership for her master’s degree, and wants to focus on growing the game throughout ME and the sur-
rounding communities while also teaching the athletes how sports are not only for physical growth,
but personal growth. Everyone is welcome. Field hockey is an all inclusive game, and there is no
better time to learn than this Summer! I am looking forward to getting to know each athlete and help
inspire them to grow their passion for the game!

Ninja Warrior with Viking Sports ( Ages 6-12)- Viking’s Ninja Warrior might be the best
thing since sliced bread. It’s the perfect blend of fitness competition and fun that keeps everyone en-
gaged. Viking created a variety of Ninja Warrior obstacles geared around agility strength and bal-
ance. When put together they make a diverse Ninja Warrior course that kids love to go through. Ath-
letes will find themselves leaping from the ascending plyo boxes bounding between quintuple steps
and even scaling the wall located in our ENORMOUS obstacle bounce house! Every aspect of Vi-
king’s Ninja Warrior is flat out fun.

Hornets Future Stars Baseball Clinic - Assistant coach Kevin
Winship, along with varsity baseball players, will be running a baseball
clinic for July 12th-15th from 9-2pm at Sweeney Field in Manchester. We
will be working on many baseball skills that include hitting, pitching,
throwing, outfield work, infield work, base-running, and many drills that
allow younger players to develop. We will divide players by age and abil-
ity during these drills. We will also have a 1/2 hour lunch. After lunch we
will follow with a baseball game to test out the skills acquired during the morning! Only $150.00!!!

Tim St. Laurent Summer Basketball Clinic (Grades 1-9)-Join Manchester Essex High
School Boys Varsity Basketball Coach Tim St. Laurent who will be running two summer basketball
clinics from Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 21st to June 23rd AND August 16th to August
18th, at the outdoor courts at Sweeney Court (we are bringing in additional hoops). The clinic will be
from 9am to noon each day. This clinic is for boys and girls in grades 1 through 9 (2021-22 School
Year). The sessions will be fun drills that concentrate on dribbling, passing, shooting, proper foot-
work, and defense. There will be games throughout the morning for all levels. The clinic will be run
by the coaching staff, current, and former players of the high school team.
Cost: $120 for each session; $200 if you sign up for both.

Summer Ninja Knucklebones (Grades K-1)- Back by popular demand. Knucklebones
Ninja for children in grades K-1. Knucklebones Ninja is a blend of strength, skill, flexibility, fitness,
and fun. Throughout class, participants will engage in various games, drills, elements, and obstacle
courses. From scaling up cargo nets on a truss, to walking across balance beams, climbing over the
A-frame, to hanging on monkey bars, this class allows participants to have fun while progressing
through the basics of ninja warrior elements. This great program will take place at Sweeney Park.
Knucklebones is known to have the best unique sports equipment around to keep the kids engaged
and excited for the next class.

unique equipment, we will play outside the box games for all to enjoy. Capture the Flag meets giant
six-foot inflatable tube, welcome to Powerball! Gaga, Poison and theme days - Color Games, Olym-
pics and Survivor; everyone will be challenged, learn new skills and have a blast. Proper clothing
and sneakers are required. Mask and water bottle required.

Summer Song Writing Club (Ages 7-12)-Join singer/songwriter Ruthanne Paulson, owner/
director of Performing Arts Inspirations and learn to write your own songs! What inspires you? Turn
it into a song! Explore music, melodies and different types of songs. Use art and nature for inspira-
tion. Have fun writing lyrics and creating tunes to go with it. Together we will write a song book and
sing for our families on the last day of the program. Please bring a mask and water bottle.

Incrediflix LEGO Movie Making Club - Action Mov-                                     ie Flix (Ages 7-
13)-Bring Lego worlds to life! Incrediflix will provide the Legos. You provide your imagination and
love for Legos. In this summer program we will work in groups to create a Lego movie set with Lego
characters for a stop-motion movie, you'll storyboard, shoot and add voice-overs too. All supplies will
be included and sanitize. All students must wear a facial mask. The created movie will be emailed
one month after the class ends.

Seaside Crafts with Mrs. Heslop- Nautical inspired craft club at Tuck’s Point!!!! Let’s get
crafty at beautiful seaside Tuck’s Point with Mrs. Heslop. This four day craft club will get inspired
with the pure beauty of Tuck’s Point from the ocean life, boats, people, Rotunda and everything that
Tuck’s Point has to offer to inspire your budding artist. Each day will be a different day of crafts. The

Wire by Ryan- Summer Editions @ Tuck’s Point - Due to popular demand we have been
asked to bring back Wire by Ryan. Join local award winning wire sculptor Ryan Kelley as you com-
bine wire, inspiration, and creativity! Bring a small rock from home, scavenge for natural found ob-
jects, or just use the copper wire provided to sculpt whatever your heart desires! There is no end to
the possibilities! All supplies and tools are provided for this class. Please wear a mask and bring a

dive into the prop box and maybe even make a cardboard set! Use your imagination to develop

Chess Wizards Club at Tuck’s Point (Grades 1st-6th)-Say YES to Chess!!! Join Chess Wizards
for an interactive, scholastic program where kids can collaborate, gain confidence, improve chess
skills, meet new friends and work out their most powerful muscle- Their brains!! Appropriate for be-
ginner to intermediate chess players. All students will receive a trophy, puzzle folder and wizard t-
shirt. Come join the fun!!! We will offer two sessions of this program, as to keep up with demand in
this chess loving community.

           Manchester Summer Playground...where memories are made!

The century old Manchester summer tradition is back! This year we will be
offering our Summer Playground Program by the week, for 7 weeks this
summer. By offering this program by the week, we can monitor the size of
the groups and work with the CDC guidelines to keep everyone safe while
still offering this great summer program that we all love!!! All the favorites
of Manchester Summer Playground will take place. We will play sports, gym
games, board games, table games, water games, tournaments & competi-
tions, Hat Day, STEM creations, annual 4th of July t-shirt creations, friend-
ships bracelets and gimp. We will also have special guests that may include
Curious Creatures, Knucklebones, Archery, Yoga, BMX Bikes and
Magicians!!! We will also take local fields trips on Fridays to Singing Beach,
Tuck's Point, Sweeney Park, White Beach and Agassiz Rock!
These weeks will fill up fast so please register for the weeks that work best
for your family.

Moore Colour Miss. Judianne for Summertime Art Club (Ages 6-12) -Come join art-
ist and owner of Moore Colour Miss. Judianne for Summertime Art Club. Summertime Art Club will
enjoy various beach inspired crafts at the Chowder House, Tuck’s Point. The students will enjoy
making pop art underwater self portraits to funky painted rocks and wire photo holders. Together we
will enjoy little science, a little sand and lots of art! All supplies are included in the fee of this

A Herpetological Hike Adventure with Andrew Pazar (Grades 2-7)-The woods around
Agassiz Rock are home to many different types of reptiles and amphibians (sometimes call “herps”)
such as snakes, frogs, and salamanders. Spend the morning roaming the trails, flipping rocks and
logs, dipping into vernal pools, and exploring creeks for these amazing animals. We will learn about
their varied lifecycles as well as what habitats they prefer. Participants should wear shoes/boots that
can get wet and clothes that can get dirty.

Wild Edibles for Beginners with Andrew Pazar (Grades 2-7)-Chances are you’ve

trees tastes like wintergreen? Join us for a ramble through the woods of Agassiz Rock while we look
for some of the foods that nature provides. Participants should wear shoes/boots that can get wet
and clothes that can get dirty.

Brian Alex from the band Entrain, spent much of 2020 broadcasting “Live In The Living Room” concerts from his home in
Manchester by the Sea during the Covid 19 pandemic. For summer 2021 he’s bringing his favorite guests outside to
Manchester’s beautiful Masconomo Park. Joining Brian will be Boston Pops pianist Ben Cook, Alex MacDougall on
drums and vocals, and Vinny Briguglio on bass.

Spike The Punch is a high energy rock band based out of Boston. The band formed by Jeff Fraser of Essex has been
performing cover songs at the Boston area's top night clubs since November 2000 and is rocking the town as strong as
ever playing live music from yesterday to today and leaving audiences wanting more!
July 13th – East Coast Soul (6:00-8:00pm)
East Coast Soul is a passionate collective of ensembles focused on bringing an unparalleled level of energy and style to
your event. A collection of Berklee professors, alumni, and other elite performers, we have curated a timeless repertoire
through years of performance experience. Funk, soul and damn good dance vibes! You will be up and dancing and lov-
ing every minute of the show!!
July 20th - Conscious Reggae (6:00-8:00pm)
Who doesn’t love reggae? The Conscious Reggae Band incorporates classic and modern sounds to convey a psycho-
logical relief through music. The Boston based band brings a unique feel to music and shares the genuine adoration for
what is referred to as “conscious music”.
July 27th – Fast Times 80’s Band (6:00-8:00pm)
This 80’s band rocks the stage with their wild hair, keytars and relentless musical output. This non-stop high energy
band is full of costumes and gives a top-notch performance. They bring to the table over 100 80’s classics from dance,
hip hop and hair metal. They have over 15 years of live experience and over 1,000 gigs under them.
August 3rd - The Lisa Love Experience (6:00-8:00pm)
New England's Multi Award Winning Party Band is the most sought-after Boston wedding band around! Performing to-
day’s hit and old school classics, if you’re looking to dance, party, have fun or just sit back and enjoy the show, this band
specializes in turning any occasion into an “experience” of a lifetime.
August 10th – 4EverFab (6:00-8:00pm)
4EverFab is New England's Best Beatles Tribute Band. 4EverFab recreates this revered music as authentically as possi-
ble, using many of the same style of instruments The Beatles played. Unique elements of each show include narrat-
ing the "back-stories" of the songs, placing them in context of the 60s, and playing each show "By Request" so that audi-
ences hear the songs they want to hear. We play songs from ALL eras of The Beatles' music, from Love Me Do to the
very final medley on Abbey Road.
August 17th- Cape Ann Big Band– with the 375th Celebration (6:00-8:00pm)
This diverse 17-piece big band entertains and delights audiences with danceable music
infused with jazz, swing, soul, and rock n’ roll that will bring you back in time. Driven by
the talents of Cape Ann musicians, the Cape Ann Big Band prides itself in performing to
entertain and connect with its local community.

      Hornets After School Program is BACK this Fall!!
The Hornets After School Program will be back in the Fall 2021!!! The Hornet’s After School Pro-
gram is a full time after school program that offers a safe, supportive alternative between school and
home for the children of Manchester-by-the-Sea in grades K - 5. The Hornet’s after School Pro-
gram is run by the Manchester Parks and Recreation Department. The staff of the Hornet’s After
School Program are chosen carefully and must meet the strict requirements of the Massachusetts
Department of Early Education & Care, who is our licensing body. Heather DePriest has run the Af-
ter School Program since its inception in January 2007. Heather also serves as the Program Direc-
tor for the Parks and Recreation Department.

The program runs every school day from 3:00-6:00PM at the Manchester Memorial School. Parents
have the option of sending their children anywhere from 1— 5 days per week. Tuition is paid month-
ly of the first of each month for the previous month’s use. Please pack appropriate clothes because
