Club Programme Hort & Holiday Care Information - For the 2022/2023 school year
Introduction

Dear parents,
We would like to welcome you and your children to our extracurricular programme for the
school year 2022/23. This booklet will provide you with an overview of the various
extracurricular activities available at the Phorms Campus Hamburg and information on how
to register for them – and for before and after school care in general.
Those of you familiar with the club programme from previous school years will note that this
year's plan is a little thinner than usual. The reason is that the current COVID-19 situation
has placed our cooperation partners under considerable difficulty to find qualified trainers. I
hope during the course of the school year to be able to expand the afternoon programme,
but this depends in large part on how the situation in Hamburg develops. Here's hoping that
we all stay healthy and safe this school year!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me during my office hours (Mon
– Fri 10:00 am – 3:30 pm). You can contact me directly on the Hort mobile phone (0173 –
268 19 19), by landline telephone (040 325 370 60) or by email (hh.hort@phorms.de).
On behalf of the club teachers, I would like to say how much we all are looking forward to a
pleasant cooperation with you, and to a fun and exciting school year with the children!
Yours faithfully,

David Rosenzweig
Hort Coordinator
Phorms Campus Hamburg

                                                                                               4
Club Programme Hort & Holiday Care Information - For the 2022/2023 school year
General information
In the new school year we will continue to provide care before and after school in the Hort
rooms, as well as the afternoon extracurricular programme. In this section we would like to
give you a brief overview about everything important concerning the care and
extracurricular programme that we offer here at school.
Opening hours: 7:30 am – 8:30 am (before school care); and from 4:15 pm – 6:00 pm (after
school care).
Please provide a pair of indoor shoes (slippers) for your child if they will regularly be in the
Hort. Kindly remember to clearly label these with your child’s name!
We ask you to please adhere to our opening and closing times, which means please do not
bring your child to school before 7:30 am and please collect your child before 6:00 pm.
If there is an unplanned delay picking up your child, please inform us as soon as possible by
phone (mobile: 0173 – 268 19 19).
Please contact us directly by phone, email, or dropping in (before 3:30pm, please!) if you
need any information about the cost of care, or if you need to extend the care you have
booked for your child.
The extracurricular coordinator, David Rosenzweig, is available to answer your questions
during his office hours from 10.00 am – 3:30 pm.

Collecting your child
Please remind your child to always report to the staff at the desk individually before they go
home. We need to see that your child is being collected by an adult and may ask you for
identification if we don’t recognise you. Please also allow for possible tidy-up time if your
child has been playing for a while.
Only adults authorized by a child’s legal guardians are permitted to collect children from our
school. Please speak to the staff at the school office and complete an authorisation form if
you wish to allow someone else to collect your child.
If you intend to have your child picked up by an adult not on the authorization list (nanny,
relatives, friends, other Phorms parents, etc.), please make sure to always inform the school
office and the “Hort” staff in advance (in writing) by 2:30 pm at the latest. It is not possible
for a person to collect a child from school without the prior permission a child’s
parent/guardian!
Please not that children under the age of 14 cannot collect younger
siblings/relatives/friends.
Additional costs will be incurred in the event of late pick-up.

                                                                                                5

Phorms holiday care
Our daycare (“Hort”) is open during the Hamburg school holidays and provides care for
students in the primary and junior secondary school (from 1st – 8th grades).
We will announce the dates of our closing times at the start of the school year to allow you
sufficient time for preparation. Our current school calendar can be viewed on our website
www.hamburg.phorms.de (this may be subject to change).
During the school holidays we offer a holiday programme. This programme includes
enhanced activities beyond the usual extracurricular offers for all Phorms Hamburg students.
Opening hours during our holiday programme are from 8 am until 6 pm (care from 7:30 am
is also possible upon request). We kindly ask you to bring your children to school by 9:00 at
the latest. This allows us to start our daily programme punctually.
Our holiday programme includes various creative projects or daytrips around the city. We
ask you to pay for these activities on the first day of the week that your child is at school.
In order to register your child for our holiday care programme you will receive an overview
of the activities on offer and a registration form approximately 4 weeks prior to the
holidays.
After the closing date your registration will be binding. We wish to advise that costs may be
incurred for late deregistration or absences.
In case your child is ill during the school holiday and is registered for holiday care, we ask you
to inform us by 9 am (mobile: 0173 – 268 19 19; email: hh.hort@phorms.de).
To use our holiday care, you can either book a “Sockelwoche” = a “base week” (6 flexible
days1) and/or any number of “Ferienwochen” = holiday weeks (except when using a base
week, you always have to use 5 days consecutively when using a holiday week. It is not
possible to use single days from a holiday week on various dates). Only with such a booking
is participation in the Phorms holiday care programme possible! Please note: Holiday weeks
or base weeks which are not used will expire at the end of the school year!

Chinese Language Course for Primary Level (1st - 4th Grade)
Chinese, one of the most widely spoken languages worldwide, is offered as a language
course for children aged 6 to 10 in our school afternoon programme since March 2019, and
has become one of the most popular extra-curricular activities in the last school year.
Chinese is also considered to be rather difficult to learn later in life. Therefore, it is very
important to develop children’s Chinese language skills from a young age. Developing
Chinese language skills as a second or third language at an early age can enhance children's
mental capacity and may, in the future, benefit their international career.
Our teaching methodology is based on a communicative teaching approach which arouses

Preparation Course for YCT (Chinese language test for primary students)

Youth Chinese Test (YCT) is an internationally standardised language test for Chinese
learners at primary level. Chinese language skills in listening, reading and writing will be
examined in the YCT test, as well as the competence of language usage in everyday life.
The test consists of a written and an oral part, which take place independently of each other.
The written test is divided into four levels, namely, the YCT (level I), YCT (level II), YCT (level
III), and YCT (level IV). The oral test is divided into the YCT (Beginner Level) and YCT
(Intermediate Level).
We recommend the YCT test for school children up to 12 years of age. During every primary
school year at Phorms, students from each Chinese course can take part in YCT tests at 4
different levels.
Requirements for international Chinese language test YCT:
 Testees passing YCT (Level I) can understand and use some of the most common
Chinese phrases and sentences and possess the ability to further their Chinese
         language studies.
 Testees passing YCT (Level II) can understand and use some simple Chinese phrases
and sentences and cope with simple conversations.
 Testees, who are able to pass the YCT (Level III), have reached an excellent level in
basic Chinese and can lead a basic conversation about familiar everyday-life topics.
 Successful testees of YCT (Level IV) can communicate in Chinese at a basic level in
their daily, academic and professional lives. When traveling in China, they can
manage most forms of communication in Chinese.
