BALANCED
DIRECT INJECTION. This technology moves the point where fuel feeds into the
engine closer to the point where it ignites, enabling greater combustion efficiency.
Direct Injection provides a more complete burn of the fuel in the fuel-air mixture,
so less fuel is required to deliver the equivalent horsepower of a conventional port
injection fuel system.
PERFORMER.
VARIABLE VALVE TIMING. This advanced technology optimizes camshaft timing
to improve high-rpm horsepower and low-end torque. An intelligent position
sensor detects engine operating conditions and adjusts the timing of intake and
exhaust valves.
ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT (AFM). AFM temporarily deactivates four cylinders
and seamlessly reactivates them when the driver demands full power. When
cylinders are deactivated, real-world fuel economy improvement is realized.
The transition is virtually imperceptible.
ALUMINUM AND CARBON FIBER contribute to a
near 50/50 weight distribution and an enhanced
power-to-weight ratio for optimal handling and
acceleration. One-third the weight of steel, the
latest-generation Corvette aluminum space
frame is 100 pounds (45 kilograms) lighter and
57% more rigid than its steel predecessor.
7-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITH ACTIVE REV MATCHING. The Active
Rev Matching technology provides a signal from the transmission to the engine
controller. With this information, the engine rpm is controlled to better match the
next gear selection, which enhances drivability.
OIL-SPRAY PISTON COOLING. In this high-performance application, eight
oil-spraying jets in the engine block drench the underside of each piston and the
surrounding cylinder walls with an extra layer of cooling, friction-reducing oil. The
oil spray reduces piston temperature, promoting long-term durability.
PERFORMANCE EXHAUST. Available on Stingray, the performance exhaust system
increases horsepower from 455 to 460. The system provides a more aggressive
exhaust note and features polished stainless steel tips.
