managed to secure a position with Gold Coast City Council as an

Aged Care,
Health and
Fitness
Working in this industry involves
providing direct treatment to
patients, or performing auxiliary
services in support of treatment.
This is a stable, secure industry with
continued growth. Health services
are expected to continue growing
strongly over the next five years due
to Australia's ageing population,
with a forecast annualised growth of
3.2%. Employment in this industry
is also expected to rise to meet the
demand. (Ibisworld, 2016) This is a
great time to move into this industry
as evolving health technologies are
affording those entering the field
increased compensation, greater
job security and improved work-life
balance.

      Health Services is
      projected to be worth
      $141.6 billion,
      with forecast annualised
      growth of 3.2%.

RICHARD STEGMAN
39277QLD DIPLOMA OF
BUSINESS AND COMMERCE
STUDIES
During my Business studies, I had
the opportunity to do work placement
with V8 Supercars on the Gold Coast
as a Digital Marketing Intern and a
group of my classmates went to see
our teacher present at the Steadx
Conference in Brisbane (presented
by Queensland Spatial & Surveying
Association). During the Conference,
I asked a lot of questions of the
exhibitors and discovered that
with the knowledge and skills I had
gained from my Diploma, I had
everything I needed to begin my UAV
(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) business
back home in PNG.

  “
I cannot give enough credit to my
  teachers at TAFE Queensland Gold
Coast because what I learnt from
  their business experience
  and knowledge, combined
  with the course material, gave
  me confidence and everything I

                                 ”
needed to take on the world.

MELISSA BERGEN
MSF50213 DIPLOMA OF
INTERIOR DESIGN AND
DECORATION
In 2016 TAFE Queensland Gold
Coast Interior Design student
Melissa Bergen revealed her VIP
Gallery at the NightQuarter market,
Helensvale. Ms Bergen designed
the VIP space which features street
art, wine barrel bar tables, recycled
daybeds, AstroTurf, vertical gardens
and industrial style lighting. The
competition was open to TAFE Gold
Coast students and is the first time
Ms Bergen’s designs have been
used outside in a public space.
The VIP space includes two dining
rooms, daybeds and a private bar
and can host 100 guests. Melissa
spent 30 hours dreaming up the
space, inspired by a trip abroad.

     “
     I’ve been travelling a bit
     lately and really loved London,
     the 28-year-old said. "There is
a lot of street art there.

SARAH CONNORS AND
BETH DICKSON
HLT54115 DIPLOMA OF NURSING
Year 12 students Sarah Connors
and Beth Dickson are well on her
way to a rewarding health career.
Ms Connors, 17, enrolled in TAFE
Queensland Gold Coast's HLT54115
Diploma of Nursing program at the
beginning of Year 11, after worrying
she hadn’t chosen the right subjects
in school to get into a health-
related field. Now, she is on track
to graduate from high school with
her senior certificate and half of the
units in the diploma program under
her belt. Fellow nursing student Beth
Dickson, who is also halfway through
the program, said it had been
invaluable in teaching her everything
from the anatomy and physiology of
the body to vital observations, CPR
and first aid.

     “
     A very large majority, 92%
     of Australians aged 14 and
over rate Nurses as the most
     ethical and honest
     profession – the 22nd year
in a row since Nurses were
     first included on the survey.

TRAINING SOLUTIONS FOR
MECHANICS
UPSKILLING COURSES
AVAILABLE
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast
trained a mechanical cohort from Von
Bibra Auto Village over a 12-month
period, by spending four hours
a fortnight in the workshop using
TAFE resources so they didn’t have
to be removed from the business.
The mechanics were exposed to a
diverse range of automotive tools
and diagnostic equipment.

     “
     The training from TAFE was
     of a high quality, easily
     digestible and targeted to the
     specific skills required.
