Direct Sample Analysis
Increase the speed of analytical experimentation with the
Desorption Electrospray Ionization (DESI) ion source coupled to your
mass spectrometer. DESI combines real-time micro-scale solvent
extraction in fast moving droplets with electrospray ionization (ESI)
to achieve high throughput sample introduction for mass spectrometry
without sample preparation.

Addressing the sample prep bottleneck…
A bottleneck in life sciences research and chemical analysis is the
time required for sample preparation. Sample preparation is a tedious
process that often involves multiple steps, delaying the time to a
result, decreasing productivity and increasing the probability for error.
Prosolia’s DESI technology eliminates this bottleneck by enabling direct
analysis of samples thereby reducing the requirement for sample

DESI Mass Spectrometry

Principle of Operation

    Forensics
    DESI enables direct read-out of Thin-Layer Chromatography
    (TLC) Plates, both normal-phase and reverse-phase, without
    any sample treatment, for the analysis of drugs of abuse and
    other illicit substances. Manual and 1-D systems can
    accommodate standard 76mm x 26mm TLC plates while the
    DESI 2-D system can accept samples of a larger footprint,

    Pharmaceutical Tablets
    DESI is uniquely suited for the direct tablet analysis using mass
    spectrometry due to its non-destructive nature and imaging
    capability while the sample is situated outside the vacuum of the
    mass spectrometer. While DESI 2-D systems can perform tablet
    imaging studies, Manual and 1-D systems are also suitable for
    spot sampling of the tablet surface.

    Software Integration
    The DESI ion source is operated using independent motion
    control software. Use the standard vendor method editors
    and data acquisition systems to set-up sample sequences
    and process your data. You simply build a batch sequence
    and execute the routine in the vendor software as usual.

FireFly™ Data Conversion Software

    DESI Ion Source users now have the capability to convert their large
    data sets into file formats compatible with third party software using
    FireFly™ data conversion software. FireFly is compatible with
    Thermo Scientific, Bruker, LECO, Waters and AB Sciex data
    acquisition systems.

    FireFly is a software program that extracts and builds data sets from
    data systems data conversion algorithms into file formats compatible
    with BioMAP, a third party image visualization and processing
    software program.                                                                                                  FireFly™ Data Conversion

    FireFly was created in order to enable visualization of
    multi-dimensional data sets, which Prosolia’s DESI 2-D Ion Source
    can routinely generate in combination with mass spectrometers
    from select manufacturers.
