                                  Kia Ora,
Hope you took the time to cast a vote in the 2020 General Election over the
weekend. It will be interesting to see how many of the election promises
relating to health, wellbeing and disability made by the parties become reality
now that the votes have been counted.

Don't forget to check out who in our team at DRC team loves
                      Clearview Estate Winery.

Every day of the COVID-19 lockdown, Dr Gretchen Good balanced her job and her
children’s needs.

Her 12-year-old son Leo and 9-year-old daughter Tiffany both have Down syndrome and
some hearing loss. Leo also has a significant vision impairment.

Their daily routines of speech therapy sessions, individualised support and supervision at
school, social outings and trips to the playground, were dismantled in the days before the
nation went into lockdown.

                              How are they doing now?
                             How are YOU doing now?

                          Turning Point - Community Participation
Turning Point continues to provide a service assisting people with disabilities to be valued
contributors to their community, helping them to have the confidence, skills and support of
their families and friends to reach their potential. Jesse joined us from Workforce
Developments last week as the new term started for numeracy and literacy here at the
centre. It was also great to see the delight on both the faces of Robyn from Well Spoken and
the clients as they regrouped again for the new term. Even better, everyone remembered
                                  their lines from last term.

                                  Turning Point - Transition
It's that time to start thinking about 2021 for those ORS students who will be leaving
school. Our transition team is happy to come out and visit your school to share how we can
continue to support you on your life adventure. Please call us on 06 873 8210 to arrange a
time for a chat, either at your school or here at our centre.

                                     Network Personnel
The team is busy here creating and updating cv's, and supporting clients in their job
placements. We are always on the lookout for job placement opportunities so if you are
looking for that extra bit of help, or know someone who is, please call us on 06 8738210.

                                           Scopze
Last Wednesday the cooking group made spaghetti bolognaise, and they were able to pick a
few veges from our own planter boxes to add to the dish. The clients spend the morning
preparing a yummy lunch and then we all take the time to sit down for a hot lunch
together. It's a great bonding time, there's always laughter guaranteed to be heard around
the dining room tables. Check out our Facebook page for last weeks Sunday Superhero -

Fundraising at Speedway

                                      Can You Help??

Speedway season starts again soon, and once again the team at Meeanee Speedway
are supporting Napier RDA by having us do the car parking, and running our 50/50
raffle - a very much appreciated opportunity to raise much needed funds! We need
parking people and raffle ticket sellers - each job will take a couple of hours of your time,
and you get to enjoy a bit of speedway action while you support a great cause (us!).

Car parking generally involves a period from mid-afternoon until shortly after racing starts,
while ticket selling starts when the racing starts (so this is great if you'd like to watch the
                                      racing as you go!).

If you could spare a couple of hours on a Speedway night (dates below), whether you can
help with one night or several, we'd love to hear from you!
Please email us at napierrda@gmail.com if you can help, or if you'd like to find out more!

Napier's Positive Aging Strategy
Living well, ageing well. This vision reflects the community's desire to recognise that
ageing affects everyone in our community.
We are pleased to let you know that Napier’s Positive Ageing Strategy was
launched in October on International Day of Older Persons.
The Strategy outlines an age-friendly approach for Napier with the vision of people
‘living well and ageing well’. You can find it online here (including a number of
accessible versions) or at your local library.
The Strategy, which covers the years 2020-24, considers the impacts a growing
elderly population may have on Napier. It has seven city-wide priority areas that
contribute to its overall vision. We’re looking forward to working with a number of
agencies and older people from the community to set up an Advisory Group and
identifying actions to bring the Strategy to life.

Please contact me if you have any queries.
