5 Essentials Survey
The annual 5 Essentials Parent Survey is open until April 2nd. The survey asks
for your feedback about your overall relationship and impression of how we help
our students learn the academic and social-emotional skills necessary to be
successful in the future. This information, along with our staff and students'
feedback, will help to guide our annual improvement planning for the future. Your
valuable feedback will be greatly appreciated. Please see the attached document
for more information. Here is a link for the invitation for parents/guardians to take
the parent survey.

Student Handbook
It is both the responsibility and the pleasure of Community Consolidated School
District 46 to inform all families regarding district policies and practices. In an
effort to both inform you and conserve resources, we are making the 2020-2021
Student Handbook available on our website at http://www.d46.org by clicking on
"Student Handbook" on the home page of any CCSD 46 school. You may also

You have the option to view and/or download the handbook from the web or
request a printed-paper copy of the handbook. This handbook contains important
information including the district mission statement, philosophy, goals and
responsibilities, school calendar, school contact information, and an overview of
programs, policies, and student and parent responsibilities. Please review the

Lunch Menu Change
Tuesday, March 9 and March 16 will switch as well as Thursday, March 11 and
March 18. The school lunch menu has a link on our school webpage if you
would like to see what is available for school lunches. School lunches this year
are provided at no cost. If your child is on-site, they can order a school lunch by
telling their homeroom teacher in the morning. If your child is remote, you can
see what is available for school lunches by looking at the Grab-and-Go menu.
Each child who gets a school lunch will also receive a breakfast to take home for
the next day.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Parents, teachers and students in Grades 4-8 in Community Consolidated School District 46 will have an opportunity to
participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey, available in English or Spanish, is designed to
generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share
your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. On behalf of the Illinois
State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of
Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved
attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

    ●   Effective Leaders
    ●   Collaborative Teachers
    ●   Involved Families
    ●   Supportive Environments
    ●   Ambitious Instruction

Prior research in more than 400 schools has shown that schools that were strong on at least three of these “5Essential” indicators
were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more
Essentials.

If at least 20 percent of parents complete this survey for a school, a parent supplement will be generated. The parent data will be
used by the district as a measure of continuous improvement. Teachers across the district and students in grades 4-8 will be
responding to this survey. The information from these surveys will be included in the State School Report Card. Your
participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide
improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or
your child. For parents, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be available through April 2, 2021. To take the survey please visit

For students in Grades 4-8, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered during school. This survey should take
approximately 25 minutes to complete. Please see the additional information regarding the Student Survey for more details.

Padres de familia, maestros y alumnos de 4​to​-8​vo grados del Distrito Escolar 46 tendrán la oportunidad de participar en la encuesta anual a
nivel estatal Illinois 5Essentials. Esta encuesta, disponible en inglés y español ha sido diseñada para generar información detallada del
funcionamiento interno de la escuela de su hijo. Esta oportunidad permitirá que usted comparta sus pensamientos sobre los elementos
importantes de la eficacia de la escuela de su hijo. De parte de la Junta Estatal de Educación de Illinois, la encuesta 5Essentials será
administrada en línea por medio de UChicago Impact de la Universidad de Chicago. La encuesta reúne datos relacionados a los cinco

D46 Conference Procedures for Parents/Guardians
*Your child’s classroom teacher (Grades EC/K-4) or homeroom (Grades 5-8) will
provide you with an opportunity to sign up for Conferences on 03/17 between the hours
of 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM or on 03/18 between the hours of 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
*Conferences will be held virtually through the use of Google Meet.
*Please use your child’s login information (email and password) to log in at your
identified time. You are welcome to use your child’s device as well. If you need any
help with signing in, please have your child help you as they should know how to do
this.
       Go to meet.google.com
       Click on Join or start a meeting.

     Add the link that was provided
     to you.

                          *Join now. You will enter the Main Room. You may be there
                          by yourself although another staff member may be in the
                          Main Room to join the conference with you and the teacher.
                          Please just wait. You
                          may see a banner
                          across the top of your
                          screen that indicates that Breakout rooms are in session.

*When the conference scheduled before you is over, the
teacher will rejoin the Main Room. The teacher will
inform you that you will be moving to a breakout room for
privacy and that they should accept the invitation to join
Breakout Room #1.

*When your conference is completed, you will be asked to exit the Google Meet either
by closing the tab or clicking on the red telephone symbol.

*Thank you for attending the Conference!

PM o el 18/03 entre las 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM.*Las conferencias serán virtuales a través

*Por favor, use la información de su hijo (email y contraseña) para ingresar en la hora
asignada a usted. También puede usar el chromebook de su hijo(a). Si necesita
ayuda para ingresar, pídale ayuda a su hijo(a), ya que él/ella sabrá cómo ingresar.

      Diríjase a meet.google.com
      Presione el botón “Join or start a
      meeting.”

      Añada el enlace que le proporcionaron.

                          Presione *Join now.” Usted entrará al cuarto principal. Usted
                          estará en ese “cuarto” sola o un miembro del personal estará
                          con usted y el maestro en el cuarto principal (Main Room)
                          para unirse a la
                          conferencia. Por favor,
                          espere aquí. Usted
                          verá una señal en la parte superior de la pantalla que indica
                          que hay otros “cuartos privados” (Breakout rooms) en sesión.

*Cuando la conferencia programada antes de la suya
haya terminado, el maestro volverá a unirse al cuarto
principal. Le informará que usted va a ingresar a un
cuarto privado y usted debe aceptar la invitación para
