FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Assembly- All community members are invited
Due to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions we will be holding our first assembly for the year on Thursday
11th March at 2:25pm. This assembly will be held under the Secondary Cola to allow for social
distancing. During this assembly we will be presenting our SRC leaders with their badges and will be
giving out the awards for the term, including the swimming carnival awards. It would be great if as
many parents/carers and community members could come and celebrate the wonderful achievements
of our students this term. Please ensure you come a few minutes early, so that you can QR code and
sign in. There will be a table with sign on sheets for all parents to sign in.
Staff Training
This year staff have begun a 7 module
training suite on the school Wellbeing
framework. This training is being
delivered by Mrs Karina Hutchins,
who is the region’s Learning and
Wellbeing coordinator. Last week
staff were trained in the physical
module of student and staff wellbeing.
The importance of good physical
health was outlined and discussed.
Please see the enclosed information
about the importance of sleep. As we
continue to work through this
framework training we will continue to
share information that can assist
parents and students with their
Wellbeing.
School Attendance and Attendance sprints
Parents are reminded that regular school attendance is vital to ensuring that your child achieves their
best possible education. If your child is away, please ensure you notify the school of your child’s
absence. Last week the School had an attendance sprint. These sprints are weeks where we reward
students for being at school for every day. 69% of our students received the award for outstanding
attendance. Primary students were rewarded with an extra period of play on Friday afternoon and
Secondary students with a movie. My congratulations to all students who received the reward. Our
next attendance sprint will be in Week 9.
School Support
My thanks go to the many organisations and community members who support our school each week.
This week Secondary students were provided with boots from the St Vincent de Paul Bush Fire Appeal
grant that we received last year. Many thanks to Heath at Haywards Fuel Station Emmaville for
supplying the boots.

PRIMARY NEWS
Gardening Unit
This term in our gardening unit we looked at the
different varieties of plants that can grow in
autumn. Our first step was to clean up the
gardens from last year and prepare the beds,
then investigate what plants would have the
most success in popularity and production rate.
Mr Hill is also busy building us a strawberry
garden so we will be able to enjoy them for fruit
time from garden to plate. If we produce enough,
we may even be able to make some yummy
strawberry treats.
We also looked at the different types of edible
flowers there are that we could plant in our
gardens. We enjoyed looking at the different
flowers and planning the ones we wanted to
have in our garden. We even found some that
were already growing in our school. We have been busy planting and caring for our little
seedlings that have started growing in our garden.
This term also saw the return of the ‘Discovery
Garden’ at Woolworths. We have been busy
collecting the different plants on offer. Thank you to
the families who have sent in plants to add to our
collection. If anyone has any additional discovery
garden pots they would like to donate, we would be
very appreciative.
Recently, we commenced germinating the little
seedlings. We have been carefully watering and
observing their growth.
Swimming
Congratulations to Jasmine, Angus, Charlee and
Dexter who qualified in the 4 x 50m relay swim in
Armidale last week. It is wonderful to see our school
being represented with such pride at events like the
New England PSSA Swimming and competing
against many schools in the district.
PSSA Soccer Trials
On Wednesday, students in Years 3-6 went to
Tenterfield to try out for the NNE PSSA Soccer team.
All students tried their hardest and had a fantastic
day. There were a lot of fantastic skills and players
on the day. Check out the ECS Facebook page for
the great photos.
A huge congratulations goes out to Jasmine Fuller,
for being the first girl selected for the PSSA team.
And to Dexter Blanch and Angus Feltham for being
selected for the boys soccer team. These students
will go onto the next round in Inverell on the 16th
March. We wish them and their teams all the very
best.
