The Yorkshire Dales The Yorkshire Dales is a unique region of contrasts and beauty, diverse wildlife habitats and a rich cultural heritage. North York Moors, East Coast & The Wolds North York Moors Don’t Miss (some seasonal) The North York Moors contains one of the largest expanses of Captain Cook Museum, Whitby Eden Camp, Malton heather moorland in the UK and has been a National Park since Whitby Abbey North Yorkshire Moors Railway 1952. The Yorkshire Wolds are low hills in North Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The largest town in the Wolds is Driffield and The oldest house in Britain was unearthed near Seamer, Scarborough and the Wolds reach the sea at the infamous chalk cliffs of Flamborough dates back to 8500BC. Head. Bridlington Harbour is the largest shellfish port in Europe. Discover Bradford Every season we will be highlighting one place that we think deserves to be discovered by all people visiting Yorkshire. This Winter, that place is the metropolitan borough of Bradford in West Yorkshire that also includes and District the towns of Keighley, Shipley, Bingley and Ilkley. A historical boomtown of the Industrial Revolution, Bradford was a prominent centre for textile manufacture and soon became known as the ‘wool capital of the world’. More recently, it has just reached the last 8 in its bid to become UK City of Culture 2025 – the only place in Yorkshire to do so. Don’t Miss Keighley and Worth Valley Railway – famous for its historic role as the backdrop to the 1970 film The Railway children, the 150 year old 5 mile long National Science and Media Museum – one of many Bradford museums heritage railway runs from Keighley to Oxenhope. with free entry (please make a donation though), the museum aims to inspire future generations of scientists and engineers. Don’t miss it. Interesting Facts Little Germany – a protected conservation area in the heart of Bradford, this place is full of listed buildings of architectural interest. Scenes for Channel 5’s On 22 May 1936, the Zeppelin Hindenberg, en route from the Unite States to All Creatures Great and Small were also filmed here in 2021. Germany, dropped a parcel which landed in Keighley High Street. The parcel contained a crucifix and some flowers with a note asking for the items to Bronte Parsonage Museum – situated in the picturesque village of Haworth, placed on a nearby gravestone of Lieutenant Franz Schulte. The note was from this is the home of the famous literary Bronte family. Franz’ brother John. Saltaire - a village near Bradford named after Sir Titus Salt, the man who built Ilkley Moor, located south of Ilkley, is the subject of Yorkshire’s unofficial the textile mill (Salts Mill) on the River Aire. 1. Take the road out of Masham towards Grewelthorpe named Thorp Road and follow it up over the common. Immediately on the right is a layby with some five bar gates at the start of the forest. Park here and take the track uphill (known as Horse Pasture Hill) through the forest named Nutwith Common. 2. Continue until you meet the main forest road and turn left along the track until you meet the road. Turn left and cross the road. Just 50 yards along on the righthand side is the entrance to the carpark for Hackfall Woods. (You can start and finish your walk here if you wish and just do a shorter walk but if the car park is full and you want a longer walk then the first option in best). 3. To the right of the car park is a gate and a path that leads downhill. Follow this and before you descend there is another footpath and gate off to the right.
