OUTDOOR PROGRESSION
Outdoor progression is important to us. It’s the opportunity for girls to build skills over time through
new and increasingly challenging experiences. The camp setting provides the perfect environment for
girls to try new things and develop skills in a safe and supportive environment. A girl who attends camp
over multiple years has the opportunity to advance each year in an activity she loves, while continuing
to have unique experiences each summer. Below are programs focused on the progression of skills
over time, as well as experiences girls can look forward to in the future.

Every Girl Benefits from camp
From Day Camp and Summer Camp to troop field trips and weekend getaways, enriching outdoor
experiences support her development as a G.I.R.L. (Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk-Taker, Leader)™.
By attending camp, a time-honored Girl Scout tradition, girls:
1. Develop leadership skills through girl-led experiences
with supportive staff and volunteers by their side.
2. Discover a sense of self by participating
in activities that build confidence.
3. Overcome obstacles by challenging themselves to
try activities they've never done.

Page 6 Learn more about camp and register at girlscoutsoc.org/campinfoIS SHE READY FOR CAMP?
We know that sending your daughter to camp is a big decision – especially when it’s her first time away from
home. Girls as young as second grade can attend Camp Scherman, which is a great way for them to explore
CAMP SCHERMAN
their independence in a safe and supervised environment. She’ll problem solve, learn to work with girls her
age, and return home excited to share the many new skills she learned. While bringing a friend might help her
feel comfortable, if she doesn’t, she’ll quickly make new friends on her many camp adventures!
Weekend camps are a great way for first-time campers to try a bit of everything with a parent or troop leader
by her side before she returns for summer sleepaway camp!
KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR CAMPER
While your daughter is having the time of her life at camp, you can see
what she’s up to and let her know you’re thinking about her by:
Viewing photos from camp through , a secure free online
service*
Sending one-way emails to her through (fees apply). Your
email will be printed and delivered daily with the rest of camp mail.
Mailing her letters and packages at camp.
Leaving letters in the “Camp Mailbox” at dropoff. We’ll deliver them
to her throughout camp - no postage required!
Hiding notes inside her bag for her to discover at camp.
Purchasing a Camp Care Package at our Shop. We’ll deliver it to her
at camp!
She’ll have caring counselors encouraging her every step of the way, but an
“I’m so proud of you” note from family and friends adds a special touch!
*Please note - while we try our best, it is not possible for us to capture photos (or multiple photos) of
every girl each day. If you have designated during the registration process that your camper cannot
have her photo taken, she will not appear in the daily photos.
