English language lessons in the morning, while
afternoons are devoted to exploring Edinburgh and
surrounding areas.
During the afternoon, students will go on excursions
to places suited to their age such as Butterfly World,
Edinburgh Castle, Museum of Scotland and Edinburgh’s
Dynamic Earth experience!
Each week there is also one full-day excursion to
explore other areas of interest in Scotland, such as the
full-day trip to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National
Park.
There is also one afternoon per week on site for
organised sports and arts activities led by IH staff.
Your child can choose from a range of options such as
rounders, IH Olympics, football, drama, yoga, woodland
walks or arts and crafts. All the activities are with their
own age group.
In the evenings, Explore English Junior students will
have an activity programme with a mix of sports, arts
and crafts, and other activities such as quizzes and
treasure hunts.
Students practise their English inside and outside
of the classroom, for the best learning experience.

Course content
Students follow a daily programme of 15 English
language lessons in the morning, while afternoons
are devoted to cultural study trips with their new
friends.
Each afternoon, students can explore a new part
of Edinburgh and the South of Scotland. The
class curriculum is integrated into the afternoon
activities. There is a lot to learn about Holyrood
Palace, Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh Castle, and
much more.
Each week there is also one full-day excursion
further afield so students can make the most
of their time in Scotland and see the highland
mountains, castles and other famous Scottish
cities. See page 16.
There is also one afternoon per week on site for
organised sports and arts activities led by IH staff.
Your child can choose from a range of options such
as rounders, IH Olympics, football, drama, yoga,
woodland walks or arts and crafts. All the activities
are run so students are with their own age group.
There is a full programme in the evenings too, with
quizzes, fashion shows, film nights and a disco.
Students practise their English inside and outside
of the classroom, for the best learning experience.

THE BRITISH
 COUNCIL

Care of students and safeguarding under 18s
are both areas of strength in our British Council
inspection.
“There is a genuine commitment to student welfare
across the organisation, including a detailed
welfare manual, welfare managers at each centre
and an explicit student welfare role for house
supervisors” said the British Council.

the quality of the programmes and teacher
   development

students are having a great time

All teachers have English language qualifications
relevant to the courses they are teaching. The
whole teaching team has a range of experience,
knowledge and skills matched to the courses and
the needs of the students.
The academic managers ensure day-to-day
guidance and support for all teachers and they
observe and monitor teachers’ performance.
All our young learner staff have DBS checks and at
least two references before they can work at our
schools. We ensure a high number of our staff on
site have first aid training.
