with EEG technology
As more cyclists take to the streets, the risk of accidents also
increases. Research from Monash University, IBM Research -
Australia and the University of Southampton, have developed an
eBike prototype that has the ability to “read” a cyclist’s mind and
respond to a potentially dangerous situation, providing a much safer
and enjoyable ride.

Today, our ambition and optimism are stronger than ever. We have a

Professional of the Year
Dr Paul Satur, from the Monash Sustainable Development
Institute, has worked to progress the water sector beyond best-
practice goals. His passion and focus lie in helping remote, local
communities, both in Australia and around the world, to develop
the knowledge, tools and influence to ensure access to clean,
drinking water.
Breakthrough blood test detects
positive COVID-19 results in 20
minutes
Monash University led the charge in combating COVID-19
with the development of blood tests that could detect positive
COVID-19 case in approximately 20 minutes.
This breakthrough aided governments and health experts with
contact tracing and limiting community spread.
When to send an ambulance
Triple-0 calls can be intense conversations. The caller is often
stressed and unsure about what they’re witnessing. And it can be
difficult for the triple-0 operator to collect and sort through all of
the key information. This can sometimes cause delays in making
the decision to send an ambulance.
AI can help speed things up. Professor Ann Nicholson is working
with Monash IT’s Associate Professor Burak Turhan to develop
AI technology to improve response times to cardiac arrest.
Accordingly to Ambulance Victoria, the development of such a
system, could help save up to 185 lives per year.

8 2022 INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE COURSE GUIDE 2022 INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE COURSE GUIDE 9THE
CHOICE
IS YOURS
We know that when, where, how
and what you study is critical to
progressing your career, skills and
knowledge.
You might be a professional looking to gain expert knowledge
in your current field, or you might be looking for a career
change. Or maybe you want to complement your existing
knowledge and experience by tackling study in a new discipline
so that you develop a competitive edge in your career.
We offer a comprehensive graduate coursework portfolio that
includes graduate certificates, graduate diplomas and master’s
programs. Our range of graduate course options allows you to
choose the qualification level and course duration that suits
your needs.
Depending on which path you take, you may be eligible for
credit for your prior qualifications and/or experience. This could
reduce the duration of your course and lower the overall cost.
Graduate certificates
These are our six-month courses, and provide a way to
broaden your knowledge base within a shorter period of time.
They can give you a sense of what's involved with graduate
coursework studies.
Completing your graduate certificate not only provides you
with a qualification, it can also create an opportunity for you
to pursue further studies in either a graduate diploma or a
master's degree, and can shorten your study time should
credit be available.
Graduate diplomas
Through our one-year graduate diploma courses, you could
develop a broader understanding in your chosen area of study.
Completion of a graduate diploma can also provide a pathway
to further studies at a master's or doctorate level. If you decide
to pursue further studies in your chosen field, you may be
eligible for credit which would reduce the overall duration.
Master's by coursework
We offer a broad portfolio of master's by coursework programs,
with options available in nine of our faculties. These courses
can run from two to four years, and you may receive credit
for prior studies and/or experience which would allow you to
complete your studies in a shorter time.
Our master's courses provide opportunities for professionals
to further develop specialist knowledge in their chosen field,
or for individuals to change their career direction entirely and
undertake study in a new discipline.
You can see the full list of our graduate coursework offering
on pages 22-23.
Whatever your ambition, Monash can help you get there.
