April PTA Meeting
Did you miss our April General Membership meeting? Watch it on our website! We were joined again by our
Family Engagement Region Representative Melanie Crosby Hardy. She delivered a presentation called
"Proactive Approaches for Healthy Technology Use" with useful tips to help parents and caregivers better
manage our children's screen time.

Women's History Contest Submissions
We had five wonderful creative submissions for our Women's History Month contest!
We loved them all so much, we gave them all $25 Amazon Gift Cards!

Flat Millie got to do some super fun things over Spring Break !
We hope everyone enjoyed their time off!

from Grandma's to the family farm!
Millie even got to help change a tire!

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week
Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week is May 3rd - May 7th!
Teachers and staff will pick up a week's worth of goodies
from the UMES PTA on Monday, May 3rd. Gift bags include
individual Edible Arrangements, locally made hand soap
and Bath & Body Works hand sanitizers, coupons for free
smoothies from District Eatz and more!
Thank you to our Teacher and Staff Appreciation Committee
Chair Erin Crooks for putting this together! We appreciate
everything our Union Mill administrators, teachers and staff
have done to make this the best year it could possibly be.
Look for ways families can participate in the PTA eNews and
on our Facebook page!
STEM Provider Virtual Conference
The TJ PTSA Diversity Committee will host a virtual
conference to inform the community of services
available for aspiring TJ candidates currently in
elementary and middle school. Several area STEM
education providers, including those that offer free and
reduced fee services for qualifying households, will be
featured.

NOVA District PTA Awards
The Union Mill PTA has been nominated for two NOVA
District PTA Awards!
We are honored to have been nomiated for Outstanding PTA
of the Year and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion!
The winners will be announced at the virtual NOVA District
PTA Annual Meeting on Sunday, May 16 and all are welcome
to attend. We're in the company of some great PTAs.
Please register and cheer on the winners in all categories, as
these PTAs have contributed to our collective mission to make
every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering
families and communities to advocate for all children.
Library News
The UMES Library Concierge Services
continues with two new bus stops!
Your student can pick up library books from
UMES on Mondays between 12:30pm and
2:30pm at Entrance 2. Or, if you are along one of
our bus routes, you can sign up to pick up library
books at a bus stop. New bus stops have been
added at Regal Crest Drive and at Clarendon
Springs & Little Rocky Run Circle.
The last book deliveries of the school year will be on May 17th with collection days on May 24th
and June 7th. All library books are due back by May 28th.
