   St. 20
In this year’s program, we have a journey through the unique paintings of our
region’s very own painter – Pranas Domšaitis. While wandering through the old
town, don’t be surprised to see his restored paintings, which represent the
artist’s most favourite themes: the flight to Egypt, revelation and worship,
Lithuania Minor, Africa, flowers and portraits.

The impressionist painter Pranas Domšaitis, who is from Lithuania Minor,
became famous in Germany after World War I, and after the Second World War,
received acclaim in South Africa. He is one of the most well-known
representatives amongst Lithuanian emigrant painters, having grown up
surrounded by two cultures – German and Lithuanian. Domšaitis’s work was shaped by the influences of
European modern art tendencies at beginning of the twentieth century.

During Klaipėda Festival of Lights, an extraordinary phenomenon will occur in Danė square – in the
middle of the square a volcano will awaken. The Earth will open and geysers of smoke will billow out. The
geysers will slowly rise up and down as if dancing. People will be able to see the red lights and trees
covered in lava even from a distance...
Spectators will dive into a mysterious, amazing environment where they will even momentarily feel heat
     from the Earth’s core.
The project was introduced for the first time at the Leon Festival of Lights in France in 2017.
Géraud Périole creates lighting for historical buildings, monuments and public places. He likes to
combine new technology with artistic and poetic aspects.

accounts has made this even easier. This video project invites you to go back to the times when
there was no social media and take a look at what’s happening behind your neighbour’s doors. Through
the projection, you’ll be able to recognise various common household scenes, sprinkled with a hint of
    irony.

Project designer – Rodion Petrov (Klaipėda)

“Dodge ball.” Small figures run around the playing field, where you need to catch them before they
disappear. Clocks spawn cogwheels, while electrical outlets provide energy. However, be careful not to
break the window and flood the room.

research recovered a ship yard in the square between Tomo and Didžiojo Vandens streets.
In the 18th century, the manager of the post office, Johann Christian Witte (1722–1796), planted a garden
here, which became an attraction to both Klaipėda locals and guests.
City residents and guests are invited to learn more about the city of Klaipėda and its development while
    enjoying the play of lights.

The Anthropomorphic Office is a surrealistic dream based on the paintings of S. Dali, in which a person is
examined through the idea of anthropomorphic drawers. Our inner “drawers” hide various fears, desires
and thoughts. So, what happens when we finally take a look at what is inside?

SPECIAL PROJECT IN NERINGA

THE GLOWING HILL OF LEGENDS
Witches’ Hill, Juodkrantė

Neringa, the legend-filled sister of Klaipėda, welcomes you to turn your thoughts and gaze to a magical
place – Witches’ Hill.
The lights travelling from Klaipėda’s Festival of Lights will strike up a conversation with the mythical
beings living in Juodkrantė. Here, on the days of the festival, devils and witches will tell the local fables,
while spirits out of the past will recall its forgotten history. Only they remember this place when it was
once called Ieva’s Hill, which was famous for having the most beautiful paths in Europe and for its wide
view.
This year is exactly the 41st year since the first wooden sculptures made their homes on Witches’ Hill,
which is visited by travellers from all over the globe. At the time, the idea of the exhibition was inspired
by the desire to revive the forest park’s atmosphere by putting in walking paths, which was important in
forming Juodkrantė as a resort in the second half of the 19th century.
Each character on Witches’ Hill will tell fantastic stories – the origin stories – which will be illuminated by
students from the Telšiai faculty of Vilnius Academy of Arts, with the help of lights. The Finnish artist
Aleksander Reichstein, already well-known to Klaipėda residents, will house the illuminated sculpture
installation “They were here,” that symbolises the 19th century summer dwellers that once wandered
here. The artist states that the people who once lived here did not disappear without a trace: they still
linger on as long as we remember and imagine them.

Project presented by – Neringa Municipality/
