         FOR HOMEOWNER LEADERS
CAI understands the commitment and challenges facing community association
board members today. We believe what you do every day for your community
matters. For 45 years, CAI has trained community association board presidents,
treasurers, secretaries, and committee members with the best practices, effective
tools, and necessary resources to successfully lead a community association.

          Board Leadership Development Workshop
If you live in a condominium, homeowners association, or other type of community, the Board
Leadership Development Workshop is designed to provide the foundation for effective communi-
ty association board leadership—if you’re just starting out or an established board member. The
workshop is offered in two formats: classroom instruction through CAI chapters or an online, self-
study course. The workshop consists of five modules:
z Governing Documents and Roles & Responsibilities
          z Communications, Meetings and Volunteerism
          z Fundamentals of Financial Management
z Professional Advisors and Service Providers
z Association Rules and Conflict Resolution

WHY BOARD TRAINING MATTERS

“Homeowner leaders comprise the largest segment of CAI membership, so
it’s important for these volunteers to get the right training. CAI education
ensures that when homeowner leaders participate in their communities and
local CAI chapters, they set an example by demonstrating the best ideas,
solutions, and successful community leadership—and enjoy doing it.”
JUDITH SILVA, 2019 HOMEOWNER LEADERS COUNCIL CHAIR, SACRAMENTO, CA

“Homeowner leaders are responsible for setting policy and making important
decisions for their communities. CAI education is a superb resource for board
members and anyone seeking information and best practices for common
                interest developments.”
JANET L. NEWCOMB, 2018 HOMEOWNER LEADERS COUNCIL CHAIR, HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA

» PCAM Case Study
The Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) credential signifies the highest level of individual
accomplishment in the community association management profession. After at least five years’ experience as
professional community association managers, candidates for this highly respected designation successfully
complete all of CAI’s 200-level Professional Management Development Program (PMDP) courses and partici-
pate in a challenging Case Study—the final step toward earning this valuable credential.
The PCAM Case Study is an all-inclusive examination of a community association, commonly referred to as
homeowners associations (HOAs) and condominiums. The experience combines classroom discussions with
an extensive on-site inspection. During the Case Study, PCAM candidates explore in depth the administrative
procedures, legal documents, and communications of a designated community. Each candidate must then suc-
cessfully complete a comprehensive written analysis of his or her observation during the Case Study.
